So sad to hear things like this. If only one person had noticed, s/he could have told her that everything is going to be ok. I hope they find those bullies and prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law.

I don't have enough information to go any further than calling it a murder-suicide (in all likely hood it is), but if I were the father, I don't know if my first instinct would be to call the police. I think I'd go to the lighthouse first, take a look to see if I found anything suspicious and then call the police, or call the police while in route to the lighthouse. A bit suspicious.

Again, I don't have any information and for all I know he did exactly what I just described.

Refusing service to customers is the hotel's business, so whatevs. However, assuming this party is something of a large event where preparations are made way advance and the number of guests expected to be in the hundreds, only to be canceled the day before...terrible. If you don't want to rent your facilities out to certain groups (a totally different argument in of itself), don't do it from the beginning.

In all seriousness though, I can understand how the man feels especially when teaching JHS students. They can be real brats. With that being said, there is absolutely no excuse for the teacher's actions. Physical violence to youth is never the right action. As the "adult" you really have to keep a level head and he should be facing criminal charges and jail time.

The thing that bothers me the most about this is that the US would be better off fixing its corporate tax system instead of going after a small percentage of people who hold offshore accounts and putting foreign banks out of business. The real crime is that companies can employ large accounting sectors to write off millions (if not billions) in taxes each year.

A lot of people don't seem to understand (as crazy as it sounds), it's the norm in Japan for people to leave the car running while they run into a convenience store. It's actually pretty rare to see people actually turn their car off and lock the car door when making a quick stop.

Personally, I do it occasionally, but being from the states, it's instinctive for me to turn the car off and lock the door even when making a quick pit stop.

I'm so confused. Let me get this straight, it was revealed that Mohammad Iqbal (the husband) had strangled his first wife to death on Tuesday, and afterwards Farzana Parveen (his second wife) was pummeled to death with bricks by bystanders for the crime of her husband? Incredibly appalling.

@WilliB I think you're being incredibly insensitive toward the issue at hand. Yeah, I agree to an extent that even if the US had stronger "gun control" laws that this still wouldn't have prevented this individual to go on a random killing spree. Yes, there were other issues present that deserve just as much attention. However, at the same time, for crying out loud, from media reports he was under the guidance of multiple health specialists and he was still legally allowed to purchase multiple guns. What kind of BS is that.

Yeah, it wouldn't have prevented the stabbings, but it certainly would have prevented the 3 other deaths and the wounding of others.

Likewise, you can't just pick random countries to support your argument. Mexico is not the first world country that Japan is, nor is it any other leading nation like Canada or Western Europe. But for the US, the so called "leader of the world", to be lagging behind other industrialized nations in this area is a joke.

As a UCSB Alum and former resident of Isla Vista, it really saddens and angers me that this has happened. My love goes out to all those involved.

Maybe now we can start to take a seriously look at gun control and mental illness.

I understand that having a base in Okinawa is a huge burden for the local government and the people living there, and if the country doesn't want it anymore then let's get rid of it and be done with the mess. What I don't understand is why Okinawa is left with shouldering this huge burden? It's as if these ongoing relations are strictly between the US and Okinawa while the rest of Japan is absent from the conversation.

I thought they were going to say something like, "We're tired of English speakers snickering at our school name, so we're going to change the name from Kinki University to F*!& University!" (Or some other blatantly obscene word)

But in all seriousness, I understand the desire to be taken more seriously, but at the same time, you have to embrace the name. It's the perfect opportunity for some creative advertising.

A bit off topic but this confuses me. Your company had to cancel that many flights because you don't have enough pilots? Did they all go on strike or something? Or is this a cover story for something else going on?

Am I missing something because even having a girlfriend, I still live this way. (Just a little self depreciating humor for everyone.)

I can only really go off of what the media has been saying and that's a definite yes. However, from first hand account, my girlfriend recently graduated from college and has bounced around a few different jobs and despite being able to work, it seems like she is getting poorer and poorer. She has student debt to pay back and yearly income taxes seem to be taking their toll. While I do think her current state is temporary as she gains more working experience and hopefully better pay, it makes you think about others who don't have as many options and are as fortunate.

I'm surprised that killing and dumping your child's body in the ocean is a much better option than your friends and family knowing you have a baby. I don't get it and I don't want to understand.
