They must get some sort of financial compensation, not just a free lunch.

Bill Gates, Warren Buffet etc.. They are Billionaires. They are the exception to the rule. Most of these CEO's aren't as philanthropic. They are selfish and short sighted. But I do agree with your sentiment.

After the US government gets control over GM and Chrysler, foreign autos may not be allowed in the state of Michigan. Some mayors are already trying to set the groundwork. Socialism is coming.

"if the government is going to target CEO pay, the why stop there. Professional athletes, entertainers, litigation attorneys all make huge sums of money but you don't see the silly democrats targeting these groups."

Professional athletes and entertainers are paid based on "performance". Attorneys probably contribute too much money to politicians, for the democrats to target.Anyway attorneys have been problematic since Shakespeare's day.

When she goes on to add that she "would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn’t lived that life," the key words are "wise" are "experiences" not "Latina woman" or "white male".

No, the key word here is "better", that was her mistake.

Instead of breathing new life into Star Trek, it should read "do not resuscitate".

Womanforwomen, I am not sure this concept of not talking to neighbors is unique to Japan. It is much more global. People relocate more frequently than before. Also the internet keeps people holed up at home. However these love hotels are definitely unique to Japan.

The Japanese should continue to wisely use their credit cards as charge cards. In the US many people are drowning in debt from easy access to credit, without thinking about the monthly payments. The article implies that US customers pay what they want each month, that is untrue. Card issuers set a minimum monthly payment designed to keep one in debt forever.

The decision should be left to the shareholders, If a company is turning a profit, rewards should be given. However recent events in the USA have shown that the majority of CEO's lack discipline and feel entitled even when their companies are failing miserably. Reward for success, not failure.

Not being from Japan, I do not know, do divorced fathers have to make alimony payments until a child is 18 years of age? Here in the USA, lawyers sometimes get sweet deals for divorced mothers. It depends how affluent the father is.,

Posted in: Which summer blockbuster are you looking forward to seeing most of all? See in context

kind of surprised at the popularity of Star Trek in 2009. Forty years after it flopped on network TV, it has become the Paramount franchise that refuses to die, even after half the cast and its creator have gone out into the universe. The question is, what will they call the sequel? Star Trek--The Sequel?

Remakes are becoming quite common, Hollywood has run out of new ideas.

I for one, look forward to seeing the movie. I enjoyed the John Rain books. I only hope they don't butcher them in the flick as they sometimes do. Look at what they did when translating Clive Cussler books to film.
