The men's hockey - It's like watching a NHL all star game. So boring. The only difference is the crowd

Posted in: ANA to offer women-only lavatories on international routes See in context

correct me if I am wrong. But I think AC's 777 do not have toilet seats. At least not the ones where you can lift up. It's like a one piece toilet. If ANA's reason for offering an women's only washroom because some men leave the toilet seat up, then maybe they should glue the toilet seat to the toilet. But then the guys would just end up peeing all over the toilet seat - like they do at my work. Cause some guys are just too lazy to kick the toilet seat up with the feet

this is a sick joke. It happens in some small restaurants too in Tokyo. You'll see a WOMEN's only washroom, and the other one would be CO-ED.

i've had whale meat before. very bland. It's kind of like maguro. Not sure why people like to eat it. Now, o-toro is different but I dont think you want to eat whale fat - there must be so much toxins in big fish's fat. (inclduing of course the tuna)

One of the Canadian speedskater (a medalist herself) even cried when her boyfriend failed to win in the final of his race. It was won by a Korean. The Hamelin brothers finished 4th and 5th.

Posted in: U.S. stuns Canada 5-3 in men's ice hockey See in context

I don't understand why they would even call this an upset. Canada and US team are all NHL players. If they weren't playing for their country, most of the time, you couldn't tell if they were American or Canadian unless it was one of the Quebecois or the bigger names like Crosbym Iginla etc.

I am Canadian and I can't stand how we always have to depend on the hockey team to win gold. I have spent very little time watching hockey. Go Kevin Martin!! :) (curling if you must know)

it was the first time I saw Patrick Chan skate even though I live in Canada. He is small!! Defiitely no Elvis Stojko. But i think he is more of a Kurt Browning. And it's nice to see Japanese skaters up there.

i bring my own plastic container to the restaurant to pack up

the chinese restaurants here in Canada puts way too much on a plate. General rule is, if there are 5 people in a table, we would only order 4 dishes, but sometimes, my mum likes to over order... so we doggy bag it, but i want to be environmentally friendly, so I bring the plastic containers now instead of another styrofoam box.

it was a good light show. Very impressive. Too bad the end was so anti-climatic and one of the arm malfunctioned.. Poor Gretzky had to ride the pickup in the rain. I'm surprised there wasnt any drunk who tried to grab the flame from him. Anyways.. hope to catch some action in the next 16 days. It doesnt feel like the Olympics is here in our country though (in Toronto)

haha, my friend will like this. I was just talking to her yesterday and she said in her previous tripm they charged her 20E even though what she ordered clearly says 5E only in the menu. Going to forward this to her. She is Japanese after all, and she is going again next month. :)

I totally agree with the Nozomi comment. You cant take a train from Tokyo to Hiroshima without changing trains on the Hikari. So annoying. Also, there arent too many tourists anyways, so I dont understand why they cant let us on the Nozomi

Odaiba has a meeting place -> Statue of Liberty. I think all these US remakes are destined for failure. It's like a couple of years ago when they did a remake of the Korean hit My Sassy Girl. That American version didnt even make it to the cinemas. Hollywood should come up with something original. Instead of remaking Asian films

Otaru: Tokyo to Fukuoka on the shinkansen is more than 20000 yen.

I think the taxi driver is a little dim. The taxi drivers here(canada) wont drive you that far without a negotiated price before hand and paid upfront.

I'm Canadian, and I was shocked to see a Canadian on the podium... totally and utterly shocked. Our women's figure skater always sucked. The men's side I can understand. But a Canadian woman on the podium.. shocking..

Posted in: Students help foreign tourists in Akihabara See in context

Yep, I agree with some posters here. I wouldnt want Japan to be suddenly all English speaking. It would be boring. This April I am going to a ryokan that does not have a English website - i'm assuming they dont speak English. I got a friend of mine to book it for me. I look forward to my Lost in Translation moments. In my previous 6 visits, I've never had problems with getting around all over Japan. And yes, there are guides everywhere you go. Even Tokyo has a famous one called Tokyo Free Guide. I think these students are doing it to practice their English. Regardless of what their motives are, I still think it's good for those who need them.
