I have a problem. My neighbors that live down the street have quite a large dog that is very sick. He can no longer move and they have him just sitting outside their door in a pamper. He cries all day and all night. The family does not keep him inside, but keeps him out all night for everyone to hear. I am not the only pet owner on the block, but no one seems to want to say anything to them. I just do not want to be that "gaijin" that goes and disturbs the peace of the neighborhood because the poor soul is left out.

According to who exactly? The girl? What if, and this is a big what if... she murdered him and is just making up the hero story?

Sadly, I would not be suprised. RIP young man.

What about visitors in their own country? For example Japanese people, you live in Japan, yeah you may be from a different area/prefrecture, but you can still read the signs, they are in Japanese for crying out loud and why don't you own a GPS? I am not even talking about the damn Sunday drivers here. If you are lining up to go on a bus tour, cool, but do not wait on the corner of the road where Japan is notorious for having blind spots. Do not just throw your hand up like it is okay, it is not okay, you almost got hit and it is your fault, though it would be mine because I am the foreigner. Oh, and those of you visiting from Osaka, don't push.

U.S. citizens in America, seriously man, WTF! Yeah, it is the sunshine state but we are surrounded by water. You don't think it rains here? I mean, on cable TV, you see that we had a hurricane warning, why visit then and complain about it? Not my fault you got stuck at the bar because of rain and then complain about it. No, I do not know what it is like or how rough it is in NY. This is FL, pretty laid back, the retirement capital of the U.S.A., why should we change what we do down here unless there is enough of a demand? Oh yes, and please do bring sunscreen, you northerners want to come in the summer when it is all hot, but funny as hell seeing you all turn that lobster red.

Okay, is he an officer or enlisted? NCO is not an actual, hence non-commissioned. Or do you just not know the rank of the individual and thought this would be better.

XBOX will noy succeed even with Kinect

I do not see how you say it will not succeed. If it sells, it will survive. I do agree that the Kinect is not going to help without there being targeted games for a Japanese audience or unless they have live demonstrations because this country does not let people rent games...I miss my gamefly.

As for it surviving longer, there is a strong group of Japanese 360 gamers, not as prominant as PS3 players, but with the release of Mo-han on the 360, it has seen a slight increase. But the bad thing is the stiputlations with it. You have to pay a subscription fee, just like for FFXI and Phantasy Star...can't remember the number (though now it is free). This is also speaking that you have to pay for Live, for the most part is enjoyable, but the price of Live is even being increased in the states. Not sure what MS is thinking, they know we are in a recession right?

Not only the poor selection, but damn games are expensive here. Also, why have they not made a 360 that is compatible for US, EU and Asia games. Yeah, some games will play on the JP 360, but I do not have to worry about playing US games on my PS3, though I rarely play it all.

2100 false alarm calls but only 112 call-outs. Yup, that's about right for the J-police.

Amen. What were they doing for the 1988 calls?

@minello7-not sure what is decent or factual about it. In fact, if you are not on Okinawa or Okinawan, why are you bothering? The only thing I can agree with you is that they should not build a new base. They could move onto Kadena, Iwakuni, Atsugi or Yokota, not sure if they have the space, but hey, no reason to build a new base when you can just expand another one.

I know the Futema open base was packed, almost beyond capacity. They almost had to start turning Okinawan people away, because it was full.

“I completely agree with Wakamatsu on this,” she says. “Trying to turn it into something beautiful—’Japan was defeated, but you can be heroic in defeat as well as victory, can’t you? Those soldiers were true heroes, dying for their country…’—is just wrong. The Japanese killed hundreds of thousands of people—we weren’t just defeated, we did terrible things, and what happened to the country was a result of that.”

She really knows how to speak her mind. Not saying all of the soldiers were like this, but wow. Probably would have liked to heard the whole conversation on this. I hope to catch this movie.

@dreamland- too true. The JP over here are using "eco-police cars" and they hate them and rarely use them because they cannot afford to keep changing the battery. The only thing they ever did right was to stop using that damn car.

Why make "eco" crap when they still have stuff they can not properly recharge or get rid of. Just trying to make a buck. Where is Leo when you need him. (sarcasm)

Posted in: What do you think of the word "hafu," the Japanese term used to describe anyone who is half-Japanese? See in context

limbo-dude...the subject is about the word hafu right and if it is acceptable or not. You and your kids are not cool about it and most half's that I know and some people on this site are fine with it.

Bringing up stuff that has nothing to do with the subject at hand does not help. But if you want to go there, we could go on about a bunch of derogatory terms that have nothing to do with the word hafu. So is derogatory labelization okay? No. Is hafu presented that way, maybe by some people, but again you would be generalizing if you did that. There is a lot more hate and problems in the world to have the word hafu be that big a problem.

Posted in: What do you think of the word "hafu," the Japanese term used to describe anyone who is half-Japanese? See in context

limbo-so what you are saying is all of Japan thinks this way that is why these few need to stand up? You are generalizing. I think you do not mean all of Japan, and that is why I siad broaden your thoughts. Looks like you also agree with my point of profiling.

Fishy said it best: Having said that, I also understand what limbojapan says about SEA, Filipinos and some other non white people often go through.. they don't get the same "envious" eyes from Japanese compared to those haafu white kids. But that doesn't have much to do with the word haafu..

So please get back on subject of the word at hand.

But I guess you cannot get back there is because the only way you take half is in the negative. Two halves make a whole, four quarters make and a whole and etc etc. The only person who take away from you or your kids being a whole is yourselves. If you let someone else do it, because they did not say it in a cute way...sad.

malprops had something good to say too: In my experience, parents of us mixed individuals try to be OVERLY empathetic, totally ignoring how WE feel, what WE encounter, and how WE think. By trying to be sympathetic to something they'll never experience first hand they tend to attack what needs no attacking. My own parents are just as guilty. I think you should read this outload and listen to what he is saying, it might sink in and hit home.

Posted in: What do you think of the word "hafu," the Japanese term used to describe anyone who is half-Japanese? See in context

limbo

As you said-if you are a mix of SEA, Black, Arabic, Persian, Indian, etc.. then it is used almost always with a negative overtone. So these kids are targeted to recieve or called something in a negative tone. Maybe I missed my mark on the profiling, but it sure sounded like these kids are always gonna be seen in a negative light.

I really do not care where you came from or where you are from, but you first go on to say that your children thought they were Japanese period. Same rights. Good stuff on your kids part.

The reason they took offense to it was because it was not said in a "cute" manner...seriously? Then it is mean when it is used as a casual, but it hurts your feelings when I do not an emphasis of it being in a positive light instead of as a regular word or description. Wow.

Unfortunately, there are those of us half-breeds, some of us mixed with more than half, yes meaning me in particular that have no problem with the word. Sure, there are some people who may use it in a negative light, but growing up, I got taught there were some people who were gonna give me crap cause I was different. Sorry that you could not teach your kids that and that they do not know how to brush it off and turn a simple word into a derogatory one. I like how you only use what you have been exposed to. Try getting some more exposure so you can get a broader picture. How about you go by "other" on that checklist and go on about your day.

Posted in: 18-yr-old girl arrested for online sale of photos of herself naked See in context

It is not legal in Japan and most 18y/o Japanese girls don't know their head from their tale.

Wow? Seriously? How dumb do you think they are? She obviously went to a market where she knew she was going to get some fast cash. She did not, for all we know, have any sexual relations. She did not have to mess with Yaks or get a loan that she had to worry about paying back. No worries about STD's or having to deal with prostitution. She knew what she wanted and did her thing. Your ideals may not agree with what she did, as I am sure that goes for most people on this site, but to call her dumb/ignorant/whatever is ignorance itself. There are plenty of 18-year-olds that are doing different things (legal/illegal) and getting by. Not sure when you left under your parent's wing but I am sure you did know head from your tail.
