Thanks Sam that's most probably the reason. Surely though as you suggest digital documents should mean the end of these statutes.

Statute of limitations... I can appreciate such a thing for very minor offences but any criminal offence should have no such thing. For example some of these corporate and governmental fraud cases pocketed millions to the offenders and though now the evidence indicates that these people are as guilty as sin and have lived a life of luxury, they cannot be prosecuted because of this act. Similar again to rapists and child molesters.

On a different but similar subject I was once accused of a terrible crime by a unknown young woman I didn't do or have any such knowledge of. I professed my innocence to no avail as the mob around me immediately assumed I was guilty and proceeded to take their justice out on me. Yes I got bashed. I later called the police who attended but couldn't find the culprits. The police said to me "don't worry about it, some evil young women do that just for their own fun and twenty years ago when she said you did that crime she would of most probably been 3 or 4 years old and would of never known". Well that didn't help me being covered in blood, torn shirt and humiliated...

@paradoxbox.

Regardless if the girls were willing or not and if backed out when it became known still does not excuse the teacher. He is in a position of trust and should know what the system expects from and should be professional enough to avoid that situation.

Anyway I have you an up vote for expressing your thoughts...

Teachers must have a duty of care for all their students. Not just educational but moral and a respectable authority figure. These two have disgraced and abused that responsibility regardless if the students were willing participants or not. Immature students need guidance from what should be a responsible and trusted adult and not some creeps out for their own satisfaction.

Surely a supermarket would also have CCTV...and would be able to provide a better description than that.

Just speculating here sorry but we have no idea how the baby was conceived, could be something much more sinister than the lack of sex education with another young person. If so, it goes a long way as to why she didn't seek help and the family and her kept the whole matter quiet....

"holding Platinum Elite Plus status with Garuda airlines", there must be a lot of money in it and he's a professional smuggler having already been arrested in Australia. Maybe he became overly confident and didn't bribe enough airport officials this time.

This is just a weird, unprovoked and wanton crime. It doesn't fit with classically safe Japan reputation.

It was just before dawn....

A young lady walking home at that time and beaten by two strangers who happen to be out and about at that time who didn't try and rob or rape her.

Just really weird and there must be something more to this story.

A good news story and I'm all for people who truly want to kick the habit. But those who don't want to? Please people remember that drugs destroy lives, not just the user but the people around them, the families, the friends and the people that may have had a crime committed against them whether it was assault, robbery or a vehicle accident by the drug affected person.

Golden week in Japan sounds very similar to Songkarn in Thailand, just don't try and go anywhere unless you are prepared to queue, be stuck in traffic and probably pay a premium price for transport and accommodation.

Posted in: Accused groper who jumped onto train tracks to escape arrested See in context

I recall going to lunch with a lady acquaintance in Osaka one day. During the lunch I knew she was not feeling so well and we weren't really hitting it off as she was saying I'm sorry but I shouldn't of come down from Nagoya and wasted the train fare. When she went to the toilet I slipped a few thousand yen into her breast jacket pocket she had left on the chair as a gesture to cover her costs of travel.

When we departed company I said to her to check her pocket. She said there is nothing in it. I then pointed to it and said please check it. Again she said there's nothing in it. Then I touched the pocket... oh that was a mistake and she started yelling "you touched my breast, you touched my breast!". I just looked at her in disbelief and walked away. About 15 metres away I looked back and she was holding the money I put in her pocket in her hand.

I felt ridiculous and had no intention of groping her but also felt somewhat guilty and embarrassed... if police had attended I would have pleaded not guilty...

I'm no dog expert but have owned several of them and different breeds. Luckily all my dogs have been good and have never showed any sign of aggression towards me, my family or guests.... but strangers do not get a warm welcome. I do know all dogs have the ability to attack at times and some breeds more than others. If an unprovoked dog (Pet) attacks someone in a private or public place then that dog should be put down regardless of how much that dog is loved by its owners.

I think this is a common sense approach at last. Oh yes the Overly Politically Correct may find Something wrong with it but it is clear that the current visa system has been severely abused for cheap labour and rather than filling skill shortages actually increased unemployment.

Thanks Borax and goldorak, I didn't realise they were illegally parked. But how do the authorities know they were abandoned bicycles? I would be somewhat upset if I parked my bike and went to pick it up later, or the next day and found out it was gone (confiscated). Here people park their bicycles anywhere, chained of course.

@Disillusioned.. Interesting reason but economically would not stack up because if a new bicycle was purchased every few months then they would still need parking at the stations. And I don't know the parking rates for bikes in Tokyo.

Probably Nessie has the best reason though I still feel that would not be the most likely as the aging who ride bikes would not normally be that well to do that they could just discard their bikes whenever.

This guy being the serial rapist he is makes me wonder how many he has actually committed. The police should be tracking his life from and inclusive of his high school days to now and putting ads in the local papers in and around where he lived asking any people to come forward if they know of any similar or unreported events in the past. This could possibly uncover a wealth of information.

Posted in: Kindergarten teachers taped child’s hands and feet for discipline See in context

@notagain. Not to mention the other children being harmed by the out of control child... should the out of control child also be charged with assault? Yes I realise not because they are a minor, but we have a saying, an adult crime deserves adult time regardless of the age.

Posted in: Kindergarten teachers taped child’s hands and feet for discipline See in context

What is the procedure for severely misbehaving minors that refuse to respond to standard methods of discipline? This child was reportedly harming others and the teachers obviously needed to restrain him, though their methods appear far from the ideal. To isolate the child from the others could also be considered a form of abuse and would also require additional supervision which was probably unavailable. I recall my son when he was little coming back from day care with bite marks all over him. The minders advised that they could not stop another little girl biting many of the other children. I ceased taking my son there after that.

Posted in: Japanese high school students fail to meet English proficiency target See in context

I remember when I first went to Japan and was catching the train from Narita airport to Tokyo. I noticed the Japanese lady sitting next to me had the same airline baggage tags as I did. I said to her, "did you just come from Australia?". She replied, "yes I did, I took a group of students to Cairns". I then asked her, "how did you like Cairns?". She said what? I asked again. And again she replied what? I then said, "did you like Australia?". She said, what? Then I said "Australia good?". She said, "yes very good". After some more confused chatting I asked, what work do you do? She replied, "I'm an English teacher at a private high school". I smiled :-)
