Near pre school picking up child , guy in tree with knife. Let me see, Japanese could be said to be knife instead of gun oriented. Would be of concern to a mother picking up child in Japan, maybe not in Birmingham.

The police possible over egged the pudding in their response but not the concerned mother in my view.

The security issues also are part of an environmental and economic consideration. If the people of Okinawa do not want the US facilities there , vote them off.

The ambassador is to blame. The detail for State Dpt security in all probability has had trouble with this guy in the past. One article read that he walked home from work alone. Also he walks with this pet basset hound alone.

Terrorist could not ask for a better target. Mr. Ambassador, did you learn anything from this ?

I am sorry but do not see racism here. It is an objection to the culture of most in the middle east who have shown little value for life. I think the bank wishes to protect life where they have the ability to do so.

Do you wish to open the door to finance of organizations that murder people of all races and ethnic origins ?

I have encountered Chinese tourists in Europe and they have no manners. Push , shove in Qs and throw trash on the ground.

There is no excuse for poor manners and certainly none especially for doing it in another country where you are a guest.

Carry your trash until you find a bin and stuff you cigarette butts in a smokeless and odorless ashtray.

It is only considerate.

Posted in: Voting age See in context

If any lesson is learned do not make voting too easy or it will not be a serious and informed process.

Require

You travel to a place to vote and ID yourself . 3 days over weekend. Electronic voting will cause fraud Pass a citizenship test every 5 years to qualify to vote. Question should be about country, not politics Pay a very nominal fee to cover voting costs. This means you really care and keeps the idiots away. Qualify to vote only if you pay taxes.

Whomever mentioned stinkers - Total recall was one and the biggest I have seen is Tinker Tailor . The original with Sir Alec Guiness in the lead could not ever be re-made successfully, he was just too good in the role as George Smiley.

The real ally of the US in Asia is Japan ( forget S.Korea ) US sold out to China in trade for cheap products and is paying the price now in all aspects of economy US sold out military designs to China in the 1990s thanks to Bills and Hills Military Officer Corp being destroyed now by Obama

Future does not bode well for US and allies as current events have shown. ( something Japan should consider )

Last real USA President was RM Nixon. Before you say what a bad guy he was, read his whole body of work. History is proving his worth.

WilliBJAN. 20, 2015 - 06:04PM JST Well, that is all very nice, but I would like to know how "hate speech" is defined, and who gets to define it. Looks like a very slippery slope to me.

As WilliB posted above, this is very slippery slope indeed. Don't worry the media will define it for all of us.

Possibly you should let the animals be animals and keep them out of a cafe.

If you want to try something different , open a "seniors" cafe. Put older people in a cafe and pay for time to talk to them about your problems. Seek advice from your elders. This might be more productive . If you pet them they will not potty in all likelihood. They would also get a nice lunch, no more than 30 minutes of time for a small fee. Seniors do not seem to eat a lot so it would be cheap and they have time on their hands. Who knows you might learn something of value and a chance to show respect for your elders. Try serving good food too , that might draw a crowd.
