Posted in: Local residents fight to save historic school buildings in Tokyo's Chuo Ward See in context
My friend who is an ALT in Chuo-ku notes that he has to pack up his gear with the other teachers and move because of the impending reconstruction of the school. For two year, the students will share a building with a Junior High school, then when the elementary school is finished, the junior high students will share the elementary school while the junior high is reconstructed. Personally, I find that there are way to many schools throughout Japan. Many towns and cities have schools only because the landowners ie rice farmers demanded that a school be built for their children. Since they are the taxpayers, the schools get built. So you have some schools with only 18 students while other schools are bursting at the seems with overcrowding. The intelligent thing would be to use the extra space some schools have to educate students and keep the old buildings for cultural halls, improved with elevators for the disabled and elderly users. Wait, I forgot, I`m in Japan, the government never does the intelligent thing.

Hey just go to Northern Canada, and you can do that for free, minus the cost of your own drinks. That looks like what my buddies and I did when we went hunting for rabbits.

I always find it amazing that no matter what, the Japanese will eat anything out of the ocean. Now Sealing on the east coast of Canada on the other hand is an essential part of survival for innu and other Canadians hard hit by the collapse of the cod fishery.

I have two small children, 2.5 and 4.5 and we watch them like hawks. If Daddy doesn` help out mummy, then sometimes mummy has to make decisions in their hectic days. I would not consider the mother an idiot, but she did something really stupid.

Finally, someone who looks like the majority of western people took a chance, sang a song, and is successful. Who cares what she looks like, her voice is a gift, and she has talent. Good on you Susan. Enjoy Japan, It was a classic to see Simon Cowell awed by her.

For the Koreans, they NEVER let any of these things go. Be it Takeshima, or The Sea of Japan. I used to get so sick of hearing them bicker about these places. The rest of the WORLD views it as THE SEA OF JAPAN and I`m sure if you look at most navigation maps, they are Takeshima. And in all this, they are a bunch of ROCKS! The only reason the Koreans are so touchy on this is on the potential resources in the area. Christmas is holiday in Korea, they just like to bellyache at the Japanese about past wrongs, and to a lesser extend America

Power to Michael Moore! This guy takes a stand for the common good for his country. He makes you think and even if you don`t agree with him, it makes people actually talk about issues rather than focusing on who will win American Idol

I always notice that people who dont teach always find the teachers to blame. Perhaps it was lunch time when the kids also clean up their school and and the teachers have to watch the entire school population. Most schools have barriers on windows to prevent this. But if its an older school in a distict with a low budget, this happens. How about you trying to control 40 children in a classroom without going nuts for a day? Kudos to the woman who caught him. Maybe we can also heap criticism on the parents for not taking responsibility for teaching their kids what is right and wrong.

I once had a private student who was in a special high school as she didnt go to junior high for 2 years. She seemed like a nice kid, and her mum and her would come to my family home for lessons. Then one weekend, her mum brought back the books and said she wouldnt be able to come back as she was in the hospital. So sad, but the problem is that many Japanese children just dont talk, and its hard to try and get them to talk.

Great, no wonder the guy was able to be on the lamb, he was handsome and whatever these immature, dimtwits felt, he`s a killer, who has no respect but for himself. And he cried over his dog? Yeah, something tells me the hamster fell off the wheel.

About the only thing Toyama is good for is the scenery. But the prices to see any of it tear out your wallet. Just to get there even in Toyama costs about 10,000.

Doesnt this sound like the stupid garbage that was spewed back in the 1980s? If the big 3 cant make cars that dont suck gasoline like it`s going out of style, then they deserve to go under. And I feel sorry for the workers of these plants. Do like Michael Moore said, tell the big 3 to start making stuff we can actually use. Fuel efficient, or green energy cars.
