Posted in: Ireland says big 'Yes' to gay marriage in world first See in context

Again, as somebody who witnessed the campaign, the slurs and scaremongering came from the No campaigners, who tried to make the debate about anything but gay marriage.

Surrogacy, adoption, tax, even consummation, you name it, they used it to misinform.

And when they were called on their lies, they cried 'intimidation'.

I'm an Irish citizen who returned to Ireland from Japan 3 months ago.

I proudly voted YES in this referendum.

I hope that the result will prompt other countries to believe they can fight this fight too.

It's quite depressing to be passing a pachinko parlour around 8.50am and see guys already queueing up for the place to open.

Boxing is the most exciting. Gatti v Ward, Morales v Barrera, Hagler v Hearns - unbelievable excitement. I think it's to do with the fact that it could be over at any moment.

Most boring: anything with innings.

Posted in: 7 unbelievable jobs that actually exist in Japan See in context

No. 3 is just a courier, a completely normal job. Loads of people do it with important documents.

I was on a flight into Japan one time with a person doing exactly that, and he was simply going to take a taxi from the airport straight to Kashiwa, then back to the airport and on the next flight out.

He said that the tough part was that most of the time he didn't even know what was in the package/envelope, and customs could often be a pain when he told them he didn't know what was in it.

I guess he had some kind of licence to do what he did though.

Posted in: Automatic coin counting machine See in context

I used to have a bottle I put my change in. It was a 20 liter whiskey bottle (left over from some promotion or other).

When it was full I took all the coins to the bank in a big bag and started depositing them 100 by 100 in the slots provided.

After doing this about 10 times, a bank staff member came over and took the big bag off me - brought it behind the counter and dumped it all into some massive coin counter that had it all counted in a few seconds (about 30,000yen worth of 1, 5, 10, 50yen coins. They even gave me back a non-Japanese coin that had found its way in.

didn't cost me 17,000yen either.

4 midfielders in the squad? Some of those forwards are really midfielders.

And I'm a little surprised not to see Havenaar in there. He could have been useful as part of a plan B, if and when they need one.

God no.

The guy's CV has been one failure after another since his term with Japan. And even then he didn't do anything special with the best Japanese midfielders of a generation.
