A few months ago, I felt very sad when I was in a restaurant and I saw an old man around 75-80 years old sitting with his son probably around 30+ having dinner. There was no conversation at all from the beginning till the end of the meal. The old man was slowly eating while the son was busy with the mobile phone. His eyes were on the mobile phone all the time more than on the foods or father.

Not a single word was spoken throughout the meal...... even until the moment both of them walking out of the restaurant, the younger man was still busy with his cellphone.....

from then onwards, I told my son, I do not like to see any electronic device on the table during meal times or it will be confiscated and slammed on the floor (which until now, works for me fine).......

what has this world become? wireless means speechless ......???

The Chronic Sep. 02, 2013 - 08:13AM JST

Don't even know why all these Nigerians, Somalians, etc etc are even allowed in this country. They basically destroyed their own countries and now they bring all their BS here. I have no problem against hardworking people who immigrate. But lazy a** people who just take advantage of the system should be shipped back to their own countries.

I agreed with The Chronic comments, I am equally shock why some Nigerians, Somalians are allowed to stay and work in this country. They are Masters of scams, not small scams but international scams to be precise.

Even in their own country, they will send international emails to unsuspected victims to scam their money, not to mention when they go to other countries. For instance, they started with those scams such as "black money", etc. Why there still so many countries allowed these people to enter and stay permanently, in the name of being equal opportunity! What a stupid policy to admit Nigerians or others like them to this country.

Good luck Japan!

Joel Lim, may I add,

"Hungry animal will hunt for only the day but greedy human will destroy a generation!"

Well, Japanese needs to catch those big-eyed tunas for scientific research only!

Human greatest philosophy "Nothing will be done even when nothing is served on the dining plate".

30 minutes unattended? Is it worthy taking the chances for a split of a few minutes?

Whenever I went to any place with my son, be it restaurant, shopping malls, cafes, swimming pool, parks, even at home, I would be constantly monitoring him to make sure he is safe. Knowing your family members are safe, it means peace in us.

I have seen parents who took their children to swimming pools and be left alone even in child pool though it was shallow, and the parents would chat and talk without having constant watch on their kids, after a few minutes later, they were crying and shouting like stupid fools trying to revive their unfortunate kid who slipped and drown even in waist-deep pool.

Hope all parents will learn, a few minutes is all it takes to lose a decent life of a child, not to mention that 30 minutes! I guess this is not the first time the poor child was left unattended. Adults then to take things for granted, now that 30 minutes would mean a lifetime of regrets, agony and pains!

I don't feel sorry for the mother, I feel sorry for the poor child!

From the situation, it looks like the devil was not doing it for the first time. It must have been an experience person who can do such a thing so smoothly.

If ever this person is caught, please remove all his organs whenever possible but don't do it all in one go.... do it one by one at a time so he/she can enjoy his/her own creative works.......

This guy is worse than devil!

outrage over a comment? That's the problem, people nowadays rage others easily for what others say or think of them but they never ever realise the root of the problem ---> him being late in the first place!

Well, still got 90% of salary, 9 more times to be abusive......

Posted in: Few married women interested in having an affair: survey See in context

Japan lifestyle is very hectic and busy. More of work oriented though sociable. Unfortunately, family time especially with partners are very much limited due to these hectic schedule in commuting and working environment. It is not surprising that married people find or have affairs outside because of those long hours of interaction with office colleague.

I am also a working expat, 40+ male, a manager who travels often for work both overseas and Japan for my Japanese employer. Quite a few ladies in my office showed interests in me (probably because I am an Asian expat who enjoy social outing, friendly and divorced, hence available). I don't gamble nor drink much..... I have no problems going out with friends or colleague but when it comes to partners or sexual activities, I am careful. Well, Japan is pretty open to issues on sex among the middle-age group though the elderly are less to open-discussion.

Anyway, it's a pit that many couples couldn't find enough time for each other but spend more time with colleague or outside partners. As a desire man, I do enjoy lovely lifestyle and social function including healthy sexual activities too. I hope my Japanese friends and colleague should try to spend more time with their partners whenever possible instead of time at office or pachinko.

StormRAug. 23, 2013 - 06:02PM JST

Many things wrong with this culture, gang rape is just one of them.

Gang rape has nothing to do with culture, it is the act of idiots who know they can get away easily because of lack of actions from the Government authorities. If harsher penalties or sentences are imposed such as cutting off their 'D', surely would-be-potential offenders would re-consider carefully before they act.

India is definitely not a safe place to move around for any female. A female in India is just like a deer surrounded by crocodiles in a lake.

Posted in: Sales tax hike won't damage economy: BOJ governor See in context

Asking a high position politician like Governor of BOJ about his opinion on the effect of "sale tax hike?", he will tell you "It will not damage the economy". It is like telling a multi-billionaire that he just drops 10,000 yen into a dirty drain who doesn't even bother to pick it up.

Try asking comments from the laymen on the street who have to struggle for foods for his family just for the day about sale tax hike, you will get an honest answer.

Moral of the story is - High flying politicians only talk rubbish when he doesn't even know a thing about the struggle of majority of poor workers who have to endure long hours of hard labour just to serve foods on the table.
