The scales will fail to fall from the majorities eyes before it is far too late to stop the unprecedented climate change we have now unleashed. The energy is already in the system, and no amount of carbon reduction is going to stop the positive feedback loops feeding until a new atmospheric equilibrium is arrived at. that's essentially what the climate is, a redistribution of energy. Now there is a lot more energy, and more to come. Water vapor, for example, the most abundant greenhouse gas: More heat, more water vapor, more water vapor, more heat... etc.

@Luca: Change is good. Ask women what they think of this linguistic habit. May the best team win.

None of these women are girls, seems like the convention of 60+ yr old men defining these women as "girls" don't see that. May the best team win.

Look at how Germany healed its schisms and rifts due to its actions during WWII. Look at how South Africa came through to find itself anew. It is only massive, insightful, honest undertakings that will ever see South Korea and Japan truly move into the future instead of being prisoners to the past.

@Pete: The Gulf War is not a modern battlefield, it was perfect for the American tanks, fighting a conventional war against a technologically backward foe on very favorable terrain. Modern conflicts are against non-state actors and large expensive tanks can be of little utility against them. Tanks have been of little use against the insurgencies in Iraq or Afghanistan that require more lightly armored, smaller, and more mobile formations. These conflicts call more for special forces than for large armored divisions. And, you can't fight cyber war with tanks. QED.

I agree with Yang. Tanks are redundant. The video posted of the tanks being destroyed clearly demonstrates their vulnerability on a modern battle field. QED. Plus, Google is your friend -- if you need more information. I suggest "tank obsolete" if you're struggling to form a search request.

Distressing, depressing and wholly avoidable. As a parent my heart aches for those who have lost children in this deplorable act of madness.

A sad story, if they have children, grandchildren even sadder. People who care full-time for a relative need support.
