Home made burritos are a cinch to make using Costco's frozen tortillas, refried beans, cheese, salsa, chicken and other spices. Great for parties and you don't need to be Mexican. Use a large Teflon pan and roll.

Posted in: Bank employee, Tokyo district court clerk held for groping same woman in train See in context

Intentionally groping or not, this subject will continue to come up because of crowded trains. Many years ago, I was stared down by a young woman who thought I'd possibly groped her. Lucky for me nothing came of it. I suppose it was another guy but what if I was accused? What do we do if accused and are innocent? Best to get to the front of the line and race for a seat I guess.

Posted in: Generic drugs: The best medicine for Japan’s economy? See in context

There are many ways the drug companies put their foot in the generic door. One big one is the OTC meds. When you want a generic ibuprophen or asprin, it's not available without a doctor's prescription. Another thing is the education of theJapanese patient who has a brand mentally. I take a generic bp drug that works fine and my Japanese wife takes the same brand drug. She switched back to brand from generic because she said it worked better. Why can't we even buy Alka-Seltzers? This subject is too hard to debate.

On a narrow street that little school kid use with no sidewalks? Should be closed to traffic during that time of day or traffic guards should be posted.

Many years ago at Kawasaki station, I was kicked in the back just as I was about to board the train at the crowded station. I never knew who did it. Of the millions of good Japanese there are some bad apples. They are always hiding in the shadows. At stations, I always watch my back.yoo bad someone didn't catch that SOB and lay into him.

The argument is simple. You go where the better technology, speed of construction and cost is located. Isn't it a rule of thumb?

Posted in: Growing restrictions make for frustrated park users See in context

In Higashikurume, there is a nice park across the street from my place. The city has gardeners mow the grass and trim the bushes ad trees often. There are four nice large picknick tables and a toilet with sinks. Great place to look at but hardly used. There is a large sign with many restrictions on it. One says, "no fires permitted". Once I took my BBQ set to enjoy an outdoor picnick. Someone contacted the city office. Soon some office workers arrived telling me and friends to put out the charcoal. My belief was no fires on the ground that a BBQ grill was ok. I was wrong. But that's Japan for you. Just bring your obentos.

The article refers to older japanese men who in this case sem to be the conservative and rather reserved types. This is generally the way middle aged men here think. The generation gap is very obvious. Nothin special.

As an old geezer, I've taken the elderly driving test. It's directed towards your reflexes as well as memory. But what about those elderly bicycle riders? We will all get older before you know it.

It's amazing how the rules for cars are unforced here and how lax it is for bicycles. They should enforce those rules before the cycle road construction begins.

So many good comments as to why theaters are failing. TV of course is its worst enemy. And throw in theater sound plus huge HD screens that people have shelled out a lot for. Video shops, on line downloading. These are things Hollywood already knows. I suppose a knockout punch is coming when 4k is going to in about 50% of living rooms before long.

Some information about Suzuki would give us a better picture of his character. How old was he? Was he married wit children? Did he have a girlfriend? His former arrest and his being allowed to return to work at a school for a sex crime is important information. For example, if he was a guy who had trouble meeting women and got his kicks with porno, etc. there may be many like him out there working with kids who need to be separated from working with kids. Better evaluation is one answer.

Ok. I don't go to the beach or pools per se but if someone has an arm pit that looks like the wolverine, some basic trimming might be in order. I don't see any tank toppers, maybe a few young guys but that's about all.

Posted in: Japan's smoking rate drops to record low See in context

I went to meet someone at a family restaurant in my neighborhood and there was not one smoker there in over two hours. I suppose because many kids were there in family groups. It would appear parents are getting the picture. On the other hand, at yakitoriya and Izakaya, a different sort will smoke up the place. Until the no smoking ban ever takes place, we'll have to choose our options.
