The only reason Australia had tariffs on imported vehicles in the first place was to protect their local car manufacturing industry, but since all major manufacturers in Australia are closing up, the tariffs are redundant and likely to disappear anyway, so it's not the bargaining chip the Australians would like it to appear to be.

Long term, seemingly insurmountable debt for little gain? These are the same LDP policies of the 90's that created the lost decade.
Huge spending is not the answer. Targeted, specific and liberlising economic reforms are needed to give Japan a flexible economy.

What Japan really needs is a stable, reform oriented cabinet whose main priority is reducing national debt and harmonious relations with the world's second largest economy- not more behaviour that will serve to marginalise its position in Asia.
