Japan Violet comments

Posted in: Mother arrested after 4 children found dead in home See in context

It's not cultural and it is absolutely not worse in Japan. According to UNICEF, the United States has 2.4 annual abuse-related deaths per 100,000 children, compared to 1 in Japan. Twenty-seven children under the age of 15 die from physical abuse or neglect every week in America.

Violent crime is relatively low in Japan. This kind of thing is quite a rare occurrence.

Sorry to say that I cannot understand the purpose of his speech. He was appealing for logic that an old man should take the back seat, but who needs convincing of this?

What a bloody circus! The two parties are in monumental decline and nothing to replace them.

They waited for him to be the official nominee to start really tearing him down. Good strategy to destroy the republican party.

Stabbing...wow, so brutal. I don't see love anywhere in this story, except that which was betrayed.

In the Japanese work-place no opinions of any consequence are given in the open. Even when asked for an opinion it appears an impossibility to produce. The result is an strong undercurrent of gossipy prattle and blather that produces nothing but aimless piddling. Misogyny is the backlash of the male comfort with presenteeism over productivity. If you want change then demand the expression of consequential thought. Insist on contribution potency or get out.

Posted in: Trump urges ban on immigration from countries with 'history of terrorism' See in context

If one watches Trump's speeches rather than rely on quotes and sound bites in the media, it is much easier to understand his attractiveness to so many people (and a growing number at that). Obama and Clinton have failed, we might like what they say but they are absolutely ineffective. Donald Trump should win unless the US wants to continue the downward spiral. The USA is on its last legs, time for change.

Posted in: With careful staging, Obama backs Clinton, nudges Sanders See in context

I expect it will be a very interesting presidential campaign this year. I no longer believe that there is any trustworthy source of information. I feel that the Americans are watching their insane masters dance and roar on stage, and they themselves have lost all sense of perspective.

Posted in: Harajuku Station to be rebuilt ahead of 2020 Tokyo Olympics See in context

Glad to hear this. Harajuku station is horribly outdated. I think they should connect it to the subway and possibly an underground concourse into the center of Yoyogi park.

Horrible, horrible, horrible. Not much hope there. I imagine he is asking himself why oh why he ever had to do utterly worthless pachinko, so much so that he couldn't just play with his 4 year-old in a better place such as a park. Pachinko parlors are filled with scum.

Looks great. I love it and believe it is the best way forward for Japan. In a few short years most of these women will not be working any ways. I also hate working with British people, all catch-phrase no action.

Posted in: Police bolster 'soft target' security for G-7 summit See in context

Make fun of them all you want. They increased their presence and don't interfere with our lives. Still much better than policing in other countries. Look how people are treated by police at G7 summits in Canada and the US, shamefully brutal and with disdain.

MeiyouwentiMAR. 31, 2016 - 02:39PM JST Those blue tarps under the cherry trees are a real eyesore. Why can't they just sit back and admire the beauty of the cherry blossoms? I see an opportunity there, what about producing translucent ones ?

Tarps must be blue. You are obviously not Japanese or you wouldn't even bother thinking it.

Agree with John-san: "Bullying will always be part of life". After finishing school they will be bullied in the company or other places. Do you know some companies have a high suicide rate? This is not a Japan problem, it is everywhere and has always been. Can we stop it? Maybe in isolation, but the best protection against a bully is a nice circle of good friends.
