Praying fro her devastated and grieving family and friends and loved ones. Also praying the perp is caught soon before he or she does this again, and is brought to swift justice.

Posted in: 7 decades after WWII, many praise Germany, scorn Japan See in context

There's thing called "A Formal, Official Government Apology" that both East and West Germany documented, had signed by their respective parliaments and respective prime ministers and presidents, then formally gave and delivered to each and every one of the nations Germany invaded 1939-41; not singular, personal apologies made by singular government officials, spoken on foreign soil, which were then, in turn, given distance by their home governments and "explained" by said singular government officials when they came home from abroad.

If the Government of Japan is serious about making amends for the war, for her aggression, it might be good to have an apology drawn up by one of the houses of parliament, signed by both houses, signed by the prime minister and his cabinet, and signed-and-sealed by the Emperor, then delivered as a document to each of the nations that felt the boot of the Imperial Japanese Military. This would be a great starting point. Singular, personal apologies by government officials spoken on foreign soil, only to be given distance by the Japanese government and have an "explanation" given by said government officials upon their return home won't get it done...

Newyorknewyork, playing coy and fast and loose with tne facts never works. Civilians died at Pearl. Civilians died on Bataan and Corregidor. Civilians died in Manila, Singapore, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Nanjing, Beijing...need I go on? Americans and America WEREN'T at war, believe it or not. The USA did not start the war, and when 69% of Americans wanted war with nobody, that ought to tell everyone the USA's attitude towards war on Dec. 6th, 1941. That such needs to be spelled out is telling indeed.

Tragic, to say the least. That the perpetrator will be tried as a minor and likely be given a slap on the wrist is an even greatet tragedy. But the greatest tragedy? A young life was snuffed out and her family left to try and pick up the pieces, all for sermingly nothing. Prayers for Ms. Konno's family s n that justice will be served...

Posted in: Do you think the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki were morally justifiable? See in context

Was Pearl morally justifiable? After all, had the Imperial Japanese Navy not bombed Pearl HarbHarbor, the U.S. may not have entered the war. Chew on that. How about the Bataan Death March? Justifiable? The use of Allied POWs on Japanese freighters, knowing they'd be sunk? Justifiable? How about Japanese Military treatment of Allied POWs in general? Justifiable? You see (or maybe not), friends, the Pacific War never had to happen. Had Japan not forced the USA into the war, the Atomic weapons would not have been dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The fact that they were is a fact of History. War is never a good thing. But once the USA was brought into the Second World War, the decision was made to end it by any means neessary. That is precisely what "Fat Man" and "Little Boy" did: they ended the war. Tragic? Yes. Horrific? War in general is. The question of whether or not they were morally justifiable is pretty much stupid simply because they never had to be dropped in the first place.

Posted in: Donald Trump is a superhero – but not in a good way See in context

Interesting piece about Donald Trump. I like the Donald, and so long as he keeps doing what he is doing, he has my vote and support.

I'm learning much about politics and political discussion as I head into my latter forties: most people are pretty much deadset on the right, left, and in the center, and there is very little to say to change anyone's mind. There is very little debate and honest discourse on political matters, as anyone who disagrees with the majority and/or popular is shouted down and made to shut up (the whole "Gay 'Marriage'" thing comes glaringly and blatantly to mind).

The days of honest disagreement are over, and this (hit?)piece does naught to enable such....

Anytime I read a headline with "ferry accident" of some sort, I always fear the worst. Glad to hear everyone disembarked safely, except the missing crewman (and I hope he is found safe and unharmed) and good on the Captain for staying aboard.

One of the things that helped me toe the line as a teacher was knowing that, if I'd ever dared do something untoward with a female student, it likely would've been all over the news. Yet, with Japanese men, it seemingly doesn't make many headlines. Yes, a story comes up on JT or another newsie from time to time, but with 205 instances over the course of a year last year, it just doesn't seem to be all that important....

What's funny is that a lot of Chinese come to the USA and once they experience the freedoms we have, along with the lack of censorship in movies and websites, decide that they want to stay.

The robber likely didn't expect to hear the bank teller say "No" to him when he demanded the cash. I doubt this robber was interested in killing because he shot into the ceiling. This bank teller was fortunate but also strong. She SHOULD get a raise, a promotion, perks, and any other reward the bank's controlling company can give her (and John Michael White: I'm AMERICAN and think this way).

Disagree, team player. I have family members who spent a lot of time in the military who think otherwise as you state, and know many, many more military people who disagree diametrically with the "bad@#$" idea when watching The Thin Red Line, Saving Private Ryan, and others. Even the movies form the `70s such as A Bridge Too Far, Midway, and Zulu Dawn portray the stark realities of war. And Redacted showing the US Military as a bunch of raping, murdering fools is not only culturally and historically inaccurate, but also goes against the USMCJ, and should receive a lot of hate.
