Posted in: Hit-and-run suspect turns himself in at police station See in context

Why do hit and runs happen so often in Japan? Only reason I ask is my wife’s relative (Yoshimoto-san) was killed in Tokyo on the 16 April 2015 by a Hit and Run and it appears drink was also a factor. My wife’s tells me it happens more in the major cities like Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto. Yoshimoto-san death likely was caused by head impact looking at the dent in the front of the van this raises another questions why aren’t cycle helmets commonly worn? I rarely see cyclist wearing safety helmets, I feel road safety in Japan is not taken so seriously. Another one of my concerns are seeing children not in child safety seats and children being held and even being held in front passenger seats.

Japan being a very safety conscious country I am surprised how often you see parents with kids on lap in rear and front seat of cars. A 30mph impact a 10kg child would weigh 150kg as deceleration would be 15g, there is no way you going to hold onto that child. That child is likely to go through the front screen. I spent years doing crash testing on vehicle child seats and seat belts. Buckle Up!!!!! And use child door locks on the rear doors so can’t be opened from inside. Some people just not aware that there is a small toggle level on rear doors preventing door from being opened from inside it is there for safety use it with children.

Why not throw in a bit of S&M too. Some people pay a lot of money to be caned, i am not talking from experience. Even if they were married i suppose having sex in car is sort of illegal isn't it?

Posted in: Mother arrested for beating 5-year-old daughter to death in 2004 See in context

Becareful here there have been cases in UK where mothers were sent to prison on "baby shake" syndrome cases based on so called experts testimonal only to be released after many years as experts were found to be wrong.I personally would not judge unless there were other occassion this woman abused the child. Also child was 5yrs old when i was kid i tripped, fell walked into doors so we not have all the facts.

For such a developed country common sense seems to be lacking at times. In UK front and rear passengers must wear seatbelts and child must be in child seat and yes it is enforced. The number of times i see mothers with babies on laps in front seat its a death wish.

So the police can't find "living" missing people they have to be "dead"? Seems police do well when people just hand themselves in, it a good job. I always wanted to join Police Force in UK (nearly did had interview) as they kick arse and don't carry guns, only on special missions. Japan police could learn something from them.

It is a shame baby died, but long term the child would have had a realy missed up life if parents are as detailed in the Report. Also i note adoption in Japan is not a big thing so if mother did not want the child whats would happen to the poor Child?

It is reasons like this that Japanese men have real bad reputations overseas as well as in Japan of being perverts. I know it may happen in other countries but it seems to be more prevalent in Japan...

The scots did right there is nothing behind the decision but compassion as SNP and Labour are not best of friends so would not come to any oil / gas agreement with Libya. The guy did bad, thats if he did do it as speculation still about he did not do it, but i know he was convicted.

I appears some Japanese forget how they ended up in Brazil other south American countries. After 13yrs my Argentian friend (fluent in Japanese) left Japan with his Japanese wife (and cat) to go EU due to barriers in japanese companies and being gaijin. I too have no plans to settle in Japan simply for those reasons, i will return to UK with my wife (Japanese too) and baby.Until Japan changes they will never truely be a multi-cultural society.

Slumdog gets 8 awards, this will boost more British-hollywood california-bombay film JVs .

It took a Brit to teach indians (BollyWood) that you don't need actors to jump about miming to songs for 3 long hours. Also there are other story lines apart from two separated brothers one turns out to be a criminal the other a copper only to have a face off when their parts corss at the end, obviousliy the copper wins and they live happily ever after. Reality in Mumbai is not as depicted in Bollywood films. I find Bollywood actors so up themsleves i don't believe they really give dame about the less fortunate.

I have seen police stopping foreginers and Japanese in Shinjuku and searching bags etc. Also i believe if they are real cops can ask to see passports as foreginers should carry them at all times, this is expected in many countries. Many countries request foreginers to carry passports as proof of entry to and ID.
