gaijin:I think this also reveals how Japan thinks of the rest of the world. All, or everything(make your choice) for them, but nothing for you. 2 islands was a very generous offer, if it was coming from Russia.

"Generous"; Comming from Russia? I'm sorry but Russia has NEVER been generous towards Japan. And do you really think Russia would have honoured their broken promise to return just 7 percent of the islands back to Japan?"

When has Russia ever compromised on any territorial disputes? They solved the one with China so why not solve the one with Japan? And if Russia what's respect, it has to EARN IT

Russia complains about Japan complaining when Russia politicians visit the islands then they bitch above Japan sanctions for Russian aggression in Ukraine. They then have the nerve to say/hint that talks regarding the islands would continue if the sanctions are lifted; which is it Moscow? Are they Russian lands or not? And how can the dictator Putin say two islands are still on offer when they pull crap like this

Posted in: Russia building new military bases on islands claimed by Japan See in context

This is just further proof that the dictator in the Kremlin has no intention of returning any of the islands back to Japan. So Putin can kiss Japanese investment in the islands and the lifting of Japanese sanctions on Russia goodbye

Triring: No return of islands no peace treaty. No peace treaty no Japanese involvement in development in the far east. No Japanese involvement no development . A perfect analogy of no pain no gain.

I agree wholeheartedly with you: no islands returned, no investment

This is just more evidence of Russian duplicitous procrastination. As soon as Japan recognises the islands, moscow will say that Japan has recognised them as Russia territory and will not return them to Japan

Triring: It's just showing Russia's discontent and aggravationof their present economic situation and unwillingness of Japan's to in helping out. Winter is coming soon and they may require to import some food in which case they would have to make plea to the US like the Soviets did in the 70's.

Why WOULD Japan help Russia? What would they get from it?

YuriOtaniSEP. 04, 2015 - 10:31PM JST: There is nothing to accept, Russia stole those islands from Japan. What Russia is doing is helping Abe change Japan from a pacifist nation to a militant one. I do not want to see this but Putin really pisses me off!

Well saidmy friend

Putin says he is open to talks about resolving the territorial dispute regarding the islands then he pulls crap like this? This just proves that the word of any Russian leader is as valuable as a snowball in Antarctica: WORTHLESS

Christopher GlenJUN. 25, 2015 - 05:36PM: China says the same thing about the Senkaku islands. Funny that. Russia has previously offered to return two of the 4 Southern Kurils islands. Japan will not get all 4 from Russia (to Russian minds, taking the islands was payback for Japan starting the 1904-1905 war) Time for Japan to accept that, do a deal, and put the issue to bed

But Putin has said that Russia wil now offer Japan no territory; which just goes to prove that Putin has no intention of returnng any of the stolen island back to Japan

Christopher Glen: Japan isn't exactly falling over themselves to negotiate either. On the other hand, Russia is offering to negotiate with Japan over the northern territories - however Japan wants them back " in totality". This logic is starting to sound familiar isn't it?

russia has said that the 1956 deal is still valid and they have also said that the islands are an inseparable part of russia and they will not give any terriitory back to Japan. So which load of russian crap are we to believe? And russia can not be trusted to keep its words regardingthee '56 deal. and why shouuld Japan compromise with China? Beijing wants all of the islands back and is not going to get all of them so why ddoes beijing not compromise?

Posted in: Russia-Japan relations over disputed islands unchanged after Crimea: Putin See in context

Christopher Glen; So let me get this straight. Japan insists that there's a dispute over the Northern Territories, but not the Senkakus? How convenient

China wants the senkakus in totality and has not suuggested a compromise

liarsnfools: Well, Japan, what about it? Are things changed after Crimea? If not then Abe should go to Moscow. If yes, then Abe should adhere to the G-7 solidarity and reduce the contact with Putin. Hint: he is not going to give Japan back anything without extracting a huge price.

Are you that deluded to think Putin would return any of the islands even if Japan had not sanctioned russsia or had supported the annexation of crimea?

Gary Raynor: Noooo, Russia doesn't even acknowledge that there is anything such as 'The Northern Territories. Maybe your lack of Russian leaves a lot lacking, Russia says that Shikotan and the Habomais are outlets of both the Island of Hokkaido and the Kurile islands and are in dispute. The dispute being which landmass do they belong to? The Russians will discuss their status and, in a quest for a future treaty to put an end to past friction, is prepared to give Japan the benefit of the doubt. Kunashiri and Etorofu, according to the Russians, most US geographers and the Japanese until bullied by Dulles in 1956, are part of the Kurile Island and Japan, according to the terms of San Francisco 1952, renounced all rights to the Kurile Islands. Even though your Russian maybe limited, it isn't hard to understand, is it. Kunashiri and Eturofu are quite

If your budy in the Kremlin knows Shikotan and Habomai are part oof Hookkaido, then why not GIVE THEM BACK TO JAPAN?
