Posted in: WHO to discuss Olympics COVID risks with Japan, IOC See in context

Ryan said Japan's rate of 80 infections per million residents in the past week was much lower than in many other countries.

If you compare the infections per million residents of Japan with other countries why dont you also compare the number of tests done for the said countries with Japan? Any layman knows the more wider your testing is the probability of positives would be higher right? Maybe WHO Mr Ryan is not aware of this basic fact?

Want to do this comparison of number of tests and positive rates to be fair Mr Ryan and then make your bullsxxt claim again? See how the numbers fall out - very different from the words coming out of your someplace where sun dont shine....

Would be interesting to see how UK responds to this revised restrictions of not entering Japan till 5 days of event start and isolate for three days after Japan entry - UK has more medal winning potential than India....

Would be interesting if some "real" journalists dig deeper and get a scoop as to how many brown envelopes and coercion was done by IOC/TOC/JOC against these athletes named above for them to come out publicly with these statements to support the decision to allow 10,000 spectators...

They do realize that folks CAN and WILL bring their own condoms and not be dependent on free condoms to be distributed - not sure if airport customs is going to seize any condoms from any athletes entering Japan for olympics.... How are they going to control people frolicking/enjoying themselves - with or without condoms???

The bed size on top picture leaves a bad taste - the organizers do realize that most of athletes coming are foreigners with a much larger build than normal Japanese national? The width of these beds means one roll over during sleep and the person is going to fall down. Not to mention the length of bed - anyone expect the basketball players to sleep on these beds? Very embarrassing in front of world media/athletes - is this the best Japan could do?

@gogogo

Why wasn't the other team mates (close contacts) put into quarantine? Did Japan suddenly forget it takes up to 2 weeks to show symptoms?

sinply because it will be bad optics and Olympics is special - IOC/JOC have made a special pact with Corona virus that others will be spared by magic… (sarcasm!!!!)

What this article does not mention is that there were 80 other passengers on the dame flight as per same news on Asahi (link below)

Start of the circus of so called Covidympics begins

and the jokers are still debating to allow 10,000 spectators into watch games…

Notice how fast the JOC makes decision when they want to? Otherwise it is always IOC to to make a decision and our hands are tied, shoganai etc...

Another example of different caste/class system in Japan (from my other post earlier)...

@Zoroto

In Japan, we don't talk about 2 shots + 2 weeks needed to be considered vaccinated. After your first shot, here you are fully vaccinated and can do whatever! Magical country Japan is.

Very true - interesting but completely avoidable cluster happened in Shizouka recently (16 Jun)

https://mainichi.jp/english/articles/20210617/p2a/00m/0na/004000c

Not sure if this little bit of news got any coverage - all 33 people in a nursing home were given their first shot - as expected people dropped their guard, thinking they are now immune, stopped wearing masks - one person became positive and still they did not learn their lesson till it got transmitted to all 33 people in this nursing home....

After 23 years here whatever small respect I had for Japan as a country is completely shot - absolute mess, lack of common sense and completely living in "island country/shimakuni" "ware ware nipponjin" syndrome (though I have many good, reasonable, using their own brains to make their own decisions Japanese friends....)

Also key point to note - the attention seeking lady must have got her two shots much earlier already

Otherwise it is a no brainer that the picture would have shown herself being aministered the shot (like media showed Suga taking his first shot)

Will the spineless media ask Koike when she got her shots and will we ever know the real dates

Worst caste/class system here than even India would say…

@Flute

Also look at the picture - these are supposed to be role models for average Taro & Keiko - dont see any social distancing…

Considering they are in contact with hoard of people potentially infected everyday, will have to ensure security at the olympig, have lot of restrictions upon themselves, ... they should have started being vaccinated like at least 2 months ago ; so no wonder they are in a rush to get their shoot.

Thanks and completely agree with your point above.

Like this there are so many "but of course" things should have been done but dont happen here. It is embarrassing to say the least...

My other point on my comment was I have not seen this type of casual walking into vaccination center picture anywhere from my personal experience when I follow global news - normally it is orderly, people keeping social distance, stand in line etc - here we see these folks walking in after their office duty as if walking into Izakaya or get together party etc which is sad - if these so called heroes dont show the right way normal Taro & Keiko when they these pictures will ofcourse think that this virus is not serious threat and it is OK to mingle and follow normal way of life (same like our PM going for steak dinner while asking others to stay at home)......

Yeah right - "full safety measures have been implemented" - third version of rule playbook announced yesterday with a great mother of all riders - any athlete not following the rules will be sternly warned or else (and something in between)

See this latest news - http://www.asahi.com/ajw/articles/14374171

Uganda Olympic team - both olympic and paralympic team was supposed to land at Kansai airport today - due to major increase in positive cases in Uganda their flight got cancelled - begs few important questions -

Why Paralympic team is entering Japan so early when their event only start on 24 Aug - why do we need these folks more than two months prior?

Countries like India/Uganda where cases are on rise will send their delegations - not only Athletes but also support staff plus media - are we really sure they will follow the "full safety measures" and remain in the bubble??

Expect a major cluserfxxk and shxt to hit the fan after 8 Aug when main Olympic gets over and 24 Aug when Paralympics are scheduled to start - brace up everyone. Take care and stay safe.

It would sure have more meaning if the same statement comes from each G7 leader instead of out man “claiming” to have got this support…

Even Biden hedged in his statement that he supports “Safe” olympics - so when things go bad he has a way out that he assumed Japan would hold “safe & secure” event - its Japan fault to not deliver…

Thanks @Vinke

Not sure where the disconnect is from the news on JT here saying from tomorrow below 65 years is allowed - but will treat the information I got from Otemachi center call center as truth..

Irrespective of age limit key point is without the vaccination voucher from your respective ward office one cannot even make a booking - in my region when I checked for people below 65 yrs it is scheduled for Mid Aug 2021 - Hope the Olympics clusterfxxk dont derail this timeline further. Fingers crossed...

For folks who wanted to know Otemachi vaccine center contact number and whether voucher is must for making a booking - just called Otemachi vaccine center. The contact no is - 0570-056-730.

Got connected immediately and no problems - the lady advised that from tomorrow the new bookings starting still will be for people aged 65 and above.

Lastly without the vaccine voucher from your respective ward office you cannot make booking at this center.

Hope the above gives some better clarity to all.

Posted in: Members of media from abroad covering Olympics to be tracked by GPS See in context

Toshiro Muto, the CEO of the Tokyo 2020 organizing committee, said Tuesday that media personnel entering Japan from abroad could be monitored by GPS to make sure they follow the rules that will be spelled out in the third edition of the so-called Playbooks due out later this month.

Muto said media would be tested twice before they left home, and for several days after they enter Japan. He said they would have to sign a “pledge” to follow the rules, and would be restricted from free movement for the first 14 days.

For all the folks thinking whether this is legal or if the COCOA app will work or the fact that media folks can have two mob tel handset etc.... -- the first two paragraphs are revealing

Read the fine print - Muto is not saying media will be monitored by GPS - what he says (at least as per this report) - "from abroad COULD be monitored by GPS"

Now I am not an English major but I think there is a difference between "Would" and "Could" - I think this is classic Japanese way to keep things aimai and ambiguous - so that when the shxt hits the fan no one person can be blamed....

Second paragraph - these jokers expect foreigners to stick to their "pledge" they sign - even during first 14 days we will see many defaulters - expect cases to rise (if reported...)

Lastly these are the media folks who will come for main Olympic event starting 23 Jul and stay till end of Paralympics in Sept month - there is more than two weeks gap between the two events - what do you think these folks are going to be doing during this period? Sit in their hotel room, inside the hot air bubble, adhere to their pledge or roam all around Japan and spread the virus??????

Everyday morning is a clusterfxxk news from these pathetic folks planning and running the show - I look forward to the day when these depressing shix games are over - no denial the positive cases and deaths will increase - but on a positive note hopefully we will not see such inaptitude and such depressing news in the morning (needless to say the IOC/JOC folks will for sure deny that Olympics had anything with the rise in numbers and continue to be far removed from ground reality to boast how they delivered "safe & secure" games......)

@Zoroto

Yes. And this also explain why Japan is currently #17 in the world in the number of serious cases.

On top of this #17 rank - point to note is this is WITH the official number given out by government - do not include the number of people recovering at home due to lack of hospital bed and dying at homes.....

Posted in: Most medical staff needed for Olympics secured: Endo See in context

Welcome to todays version of crazy Olympic news update folks -

secure medical staff for Olympics when 75% of prefectures say they cannot meet end July deadline for vaccinations 65yrs & older population - for lack of resources - but its ok to divert these resources for Olympics (there are plenty of vaccines in freezers in Japan for lack of people to administer them)

for sake of athletes these crazy folks want to allow spectators so that athletes feel good from cheering crowd - never worry about what 80% of their own population has been demanding

finally agreeing in public that they cannot ensure media folks movement strictly - note that out of 80,000 odd visitors bulk would be media (athletes are only 15,000) - cannot follow each person 24x7 - so what is your claim of keeping everyone in strict bubble? Your bubble already popped?

lastly this gem of a comment from this buffoon -

Endo said countries with much higher infection rates had successfully hosted sports events without outbreaks and that was why there was "no reason to think about cancellation" in Tokyo.

Yes true but all these sports events did not entail athletes from over 200 countries converge into one city, enter the city without any quarantine, all were given strict bubble to follow, given RTPCR tests versus saliva test (which is known not to be accurate)

Dont understand how can these folks sleep in the night by making these type of public statements….

another fluff PR stunt to show to Japanese people how great IOC/JOC is to deliver "safe & secure" olympics...

This team is coming early to Japan since OZ government has their priorities right - more important to protect lives of population than do preparation camps within OZ - so they shift this risk taking adventure to gullible Japan - Japan more than happy to accept this team since so many other countries have cancelled their training camps in Japan already and this is a much needed morale boost for them..

Notice the subtle hint that they have already decided that 20 Jun the present so called emergency will be lifted for sure - expect more suppression/control of testing/data reports etc - even if cases are higher expect at a max a "manbo" but emergency is not an option they are considering...

It is magic indeed that they already know the result at end of 20 Jun state of affairs as far as pandemic situation is concerned

All to toe the line for IOC lords since they need to announce a final decision on this wretched Olympics by end of Jun....
