All your actions since becoming the PM are exactly opposite to achieve this goal that you say in this statement - worst PM ever!!!

This is as result of total tests of 2685 done yesterday to return a positive number of 2447 - a positivity rate of 91.1%
This is crazy high number and no where else in the world would have seen any such high positivity number am sure
Also total tests of 2685 for a metropolis like Tokyo with population of 14 Million is beyond ridiculous...

For a change agree with every message so far here - this is beyond ridiculous
Yesterday, even for a sunday there were 769 positive cases aged below 19 yrs old in Tokyo
Am sure out of these children being asked to attend more than 90% would not be vaccinated - wht could go wrong? They will use buses (crowded), likely get the virus, go back home and pass it on to their family members
Talk about creating super spreader events in open public under the guise of doing good for people - I also believe half the fault lies with Japanese people for blindly following what the govt says and not taking a stance or not being active during elections - no wonder 31% population still think Suga is doing a good job - you deserve this present state of affairs and you (Japanese people) are equally to blame in this case

See the massive crowds in this yahoo news article at fuji rock

You also have disney, universal studio etc still open for business - govt is pro business & dont care about public health
Only targeting izakayas is bad - if not full lockdown at a minimum govt can ask such places like universal studios, disney, fuji rock to close - if they are really serious about reducing the foot traffic???

Today number at 5074. For whole week last week no was 29,618 versus this week total number is at 33,033 - an increase of 11.5% - this is with the limited testing in Tokyo.
On two related news about how bad the situation is in Tokyo below -
NHK news about “Over 60% of COVID patients denied hospitalization” - link below
https://www3.nhk.or.jp/nhkworld/en/news/20210820_14/
Sad state of affairs - sentence from this article - “The sources also say that among 845 cases of hospitalization, it took three to five hours for patients to arrive at hospitals in 159 cases and more than five hours in 121 cases.”
Another news on Asahi - “Less than 10% of Tokyo patients with COVID-19 in hospital” - link below
https://www.asahi.com/ajw/articles/14422750
Key sentence from this article - “Tokyo's medical care structure is so overwhelmed by the novel coronavirus pandemic that less than 10 percent of COVID-19 patients in the capital can be accommodated in hospitals for treatment.”
These two articles show really how bad the situation is in Tokyo. Please be safe and take care everyone!!!

"The status of infections is a lot worse now" compared with when the 17-day Tokyo Olympics were held from July 23, Shigeru Omi, chairman of a government subcommittee on the coronavirus response, told a parliamentary hearing ahead of the start of Paralympics on Tuesday.
He added his panel has not been consulted by the government about the way the Paralympics should be held.
This above is in essence how Japan has responded to the pandemic since last year - dont care, dont want to listen to medical experts advise but will continue to either ignore the writing on the wall or just ram through the olympics games at any costs - to appease IOC and to ensure their corporate cronies pockets are lined up (Dentsu, Pasona....)
I am sure still if any of the LDP elected official gets covid he/she will find absolutely no problem is getting a covid bed immediately at their disposal
The rules for elites were different here all along but this pandemic has shown a whole new light to this basic right of residents such as govt to protect residents lives as foremost priority but alas - they are denied basic hospital care in time of need (other article on JT talking about mother giving birth to baby premature and baby dying)..
Sad state of affairs all along

Cannot breach 6,000 until after the Paralympics. Meanwhile thousands in Tokyo are waiting for a hospital bed.
You are right - look at this news recently published (link below) where a ruling LDP lawmaker made round of phone calls to many medical experts before olympics saying "You'd better not have your name on those recommendations," and "It's already been decided that the Olympics will be held. I want you to avoid rocking the boat."

And the king Bach is back in town on 23 Aug, will join opening ceremony on 24 Aug for paralympics - this fact is missing in above report but was covered in yahoo news yesterday and he will depart Japan on 26 Aug.
Another of classic - Rule for thee but not for me!!!
With just one night stay at his hotel he is allowed to move around and join the opening ceremony the very next day without any quarantine requirements - why?
Even international Japanese nationals are required to do 14 days quarantine - why this exception? Will the media ask this simple question to our competent leaders here?

Prefectures reporting record high numbers were Fukuoka (1,253), Aichi (1,227), Hyogo (1,088), Okinawa (761), Shizuoka (590), Gifu (338), Gunma (314), Okayama (307), Hiroshima (302), Mie (276), Oita (162), Nagano (152), Miyazaki (125), Toyama (121), Yamaguchi (105) and Yamanashi (93).
Elsewhere, Osaka reported 2,296 cases, ....
Notice how the positive spin is created here - one there is no mention of nationwide cases today - which I am sure is another record high but conveniently missing today - usually this is covered here on JT by this time.
Second the above sentence mentions record high numbers for various prefectures but conveniently misses out including Osaka 2296 number in that sentence but as an afterthought in next sentence club Osaka along with other places as if there is nothing here to see??? Osaka today number of 2296 is first time crossing 2000 mark and by far the highest number there since start of pandemic....
Just for ready reference, yahoo Japan reports (link below) today national total will exceed 23,000 number
https://news.yahoo.co.jp/articles/797fb642324b45d428ea76160c382c418b5fc5e5

Number of tests between July 1st and August 13th : 500,937 = 11,384 daily, this is so pathetic.
Good data points - just to put the above statement in perspective - during the 6 weeks you mention for whole of Tokyo population of 14 Million total tests done was 500,937
During olympics from 23 Jul to 8 Aug for 75,000 odd foreigners total tests done were more than 600,000

Koike has given instructions to local health centers in Tokyo to stop track & trace activities for all serious patients as the numbers are too high putting a strain on workload to health center staff but to focus only on elderly people in thier track & trace operations.
Two things here -
first when everyone knew delta surge is going to happen for last three months why there was no effort to increase capacity & prepare accordingly the health centers? But everyone was busy focusing on holding thier damn olympics that time.
Second as Suga & everyone keep saying elderly people are taken care of by vaccinations then os this order from koike is directly opposing to this very fact? Should they not instead focus during track & trace folks in thier 40s & 50s who are at greater risk of hospitalization & serious cases due to lack of vaccination?
What this directive from Koike basically says to Tokyo residents is that they are on thier own & not to expect anything from govt? Its a slap on the face of normal taro & kieko here in Tokyo - with already controlled/reduced testing and on top of this new directive to stop track & trace activities to anyone who is not elderly not sure how they plan to control this spread & save people lives…. Guess they dont care anymore now!!!!
