Today number at 3300 - this number is 1941 more than last week (last week number was 1359 and more than double)

But nothing to worry - Olympics is going “Very Smoothly” - so there is no problems.

And we have the new record here - today report of new 27 positive cases at Olympics - this is more than 24 reported yesterday which was also highest...

But of course our deal leader Suga and Koike have already proclaimed that Olympics is going "VERY SMOOTHLY"...

Note that today is exactly one week from start of games

You can feel the pressure on LDP and Suga - so we see flurry of PR fluff updates about how economy is improving, how record corona numbers are not related to Olympics....

Good PR stuff

I am sure this statement was prompted by nudge from King Bach to distance IOC/Olympics from rising numbers in Tokyo & Japan - IOC cannot have their reputation tainted right?

And the lame leader that we have here he has to come out and make this statement - as he knows he has nothing to lose - come election time LDP will win again.

As others pointed out earlier posts - worst case scenario he will become the fall guy & take the blame in the end but still will end up with a HUGE payout which he and seven generations behind him will be able to enjoy!!!

Another of the PR stuff to sway public opinion and show how great these games are.....

If media did its job properly there would be many times more residents who would have exactly opposite opinion as to why the govt is pushing these games down our throats during the pandemic but who will do what is right thing to do????

Two more days as yet to close out this week - but already this week number (including todays no of 3865) comes to total of 13,082 - this itself is 39% more than whole of last week number of 9,420.

Even if you assume they reduce testing and next two days numbers are same as last week numbers then this week number is likely to end up at 15,569 - this would be a whopping 65% increase over last week - see the numbers at link below -

https://omatomesan.com/tokyo-covid19/

I dont think we will see any new ideas/action plans from the so called decision makers and it will continue to be in terms of "urging residents to stay at home", make decision "as early as 30 Jul", switch ON the button for emergency for Saitama, Chiba, Kanagawa and Osaka - repeat same things again and again and hope for the best

Lastly of course it will be a clusterfxxx with everyone trying to point fingers at all possible culprits - Olympics, foreigners, young people etc etc and it will continue for next one month at lease!!!!

All things pointing to a more chaotic response from the so called leaders who are supposed to take charge, be visible, show a clear path of next steps, communicate to residents to calm their anxieties but alas - this is Japan....

As the report says -

“We have never experienced the expansion of the infections of this magnitude,” Chief Cabinet Secretary Katsunobu Kato told reporters

So without a manual and steps to look at to follow no one knows what to do - so they will keep repeating the same Emergency ON/OFF routine and hope for the best!!!!

Today number at 3865 - this number is 1886 more than last week (last week number was 1979).

This also becomes the highest number ever in Tokyo since last year - the rate of growth is also increasing

Another highest number in Okinawa at 392 today

But our PM Suga said in yesterday to press that he dont see any reason to change the status on Olympics front as there is reduction in people movement outside - which world do these folks live in?

It would be a surprise if this was not the result - after relentless coverage across all tv channels only about Olympics, focused mainly on Japanese athletes (who cares worlds best athletes are here) and govt absolute focus on everything they do is spinning a positive story towards Olympics (like Suga phone call to gold medal winner shown across all channels repeatedly - lifeless, fully scripted n totally without any enthusiasm)……

one of those masterful experiments where population is force fed olympics updates & then on top of this type of PR news that how the residents opinion os shifting in favor - was bound to happen….

Today number at 2848 - This is not going to end well - this number is 1461 more than last week and more than double from last week (last week number was 1387). The highest number till date in Tokyo was 2520 recorded on 7 Jan 2021….

Funny enough initial reports on NHK and Yahoo Japan was showing a number of 3000 which looks like has been brought down magically to 2848 number - lower physiologically than 3000 number? Omi had predicted this 3000 number to be hit first week of Aug month - but its happening one week prior - not good sign!!!

Another highest number in Okinawa at 354 today and more than double from last week number.

Still every news and TV channel only focus and show Olympics news - so Japan residents have stopped worrying/caring about Corono cases and prevention measures

Govt should be more focused on communicating more on Corona front but all the attention and energy is diverted towards Olympics - sad state of affairs!!! We are living in parallel universe here!!!

We have no legal authority to forcibly conduct temperature checks, and the only thing we can do is to ask people to cooperate on a voluntary basis."

After yesterday increase of 683 from previous week - today we have another increase of 671 compared to last week with a number today of 1979 - magically the number remains below 2000 number

In another news on Asahi (link below) - giving dire warning of present and expected projections based on facts and numbers

https://www.asahi.com/ajw/articles/14401006

“Hospital beds for virus patients in Tokyo fill to 52% most serious level 4”

“Tokyo is also at stage 4 in terms of the number of daily new COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations, infected people with nonserious symptoms recuperating at hotels and homes, and the rate of positive tests for the virus, data by the metropolitan government showed.” - covered all stage 4 indications

“Number of people asked to recover at home increased from 1841 to 3657 on 20 Jul (within one week)”

“Seven day average increased from 785 to 1170 on Jul 20” - just to give perspective this seven day average one month back was at 387

“Positivity rates as per Tokyo govt site has increased from 7.2% to 10.2% within one week ending 20 Jul”

All the above indication dont show anything positive on covid control in Tokyo - but we have our PM saying on Wall Street interview that he believe Tokyo is at the right place as far as covid control is concerned - really??
