Helping her to commit suicide because she could not stand the pain she was suffering is one thing...but doing it via strangulation? and at his age strangling with a towel would not be a fast way to go. There is either more to the story or the husband is not exactly all there

79 and 75...it took a long time to finally really lose it. after that many years I can't believe that if they have managed to stay together they haven't learned to manage to scrape by despite anything. There must be a physical or mental issue for something like this to happen do a couple at this time of life.

Chemical toilets could be the answer in emergency. when you have no other choice it is better than nothing believe me..and thousands of people who have been that situation.

I would want to know the entire story of this family before I got all indignant and judgmental.

He may not have been off with foster care or distant relatives....if they decided it was better to keep the family intact there probably was a reason

she was making enough off those pensions and her work to get my nicely but was not really rich or it would have attracted attention .....and at her age probably wouldn't get much punishment even if the statute had not already passed

the bases in Japan are(or were) wanted (not needed) by America as a deterrent.

at least that was the idea when they forced Japan to allow the bases in the aftermath of World War II.

with modern weapons a first strike would take out not only base but probably all the islands before anyone knew what happened so I believe it has outlived any usefulness other than making political statements.

They are cute but the same as anime and american cartoons there is the tendency to get carried away and make too many of them, hence the confusion that ensues

Posted in: Japan rebuffs outcry over new history textbooks See in context

Dokdo was never in dispute until Japan decided to run Korea as a colony and forced a "treaty" using a puppet government they set in place. In effect making a treaty with themselves.....Japan never did have a claim on Dokdo other than giving it a Japanese name. There must be a reason besides fishing rights for this arguments what else was discovered in the area

Posted in: Okinawa governor orders halt to work related to U.S. base relocation See in context

Why is it necessary for America to insist on continuing to keep a presence where they know they are not wanted?

The U.S. military was never welcome in Okinawa, never needed yet it will not leave.

Do the Japanese politicians forget the Treaty of San Francisco which was used as further punishment to a nation who had already lost a war - as if nuclear bombs and firebombing the civilians was not enough. In order for the USA to return Okinawa Japan had to give up the Kuril Islands which were the bargaining chip needed for a bargain with the USSR in order for the return of Sakhalin and ultimately is why they are still in the hands of Russia.

Of course the powers in Washington DC were well aware of this at the time.

I have played all the Final Fantasy Games starting with FF III but was not too thrilled with the last couple entries.

Final Fantasy Camping? That sounds almost like Final Fantasy Cabela :P

I did try a Cabela game once and that was about as exciting as a bass fishing video game

I hope there is more to the game than virtual camping trips. I play video games when I am bored not because I want to get bored ....which is why I never bought a second Cabela game.

the United States has never had to answer for war crimes such as intentionally targeting civilians when the war was virtually over. they knew it was won and still fire bombed the civilians of metropolitan areas in Japan.

Most of the Japanese and many South Koreans they abducted were in the 70s to early 80s though and have lived their lives in the North now so if you want them returned you have to bring their children and grandchildren with them.

He had to mention all three of them because they are involved in the current contretempts, however this is obviously directed and not very subtly towards Japan in general and Prime Minister Abe in particular.

South Korea has not been altering history so how can this be directed at them?

China I am not so sure about, they do have a history of exaggeration when it suits them.

the years do not always matter. One of the happiest couple I know married when he was 27 and she was 45.

and HE was the one that had to work hard to convince her to to marry him as he is 4 years older than her daughter. but when two people are a perfect match.

I was only a couple years older than my wife at about the same time and we lasted 3 years while they are going strong so it is quite possible age is not the issue.

many things can go wrong in a relationship. unless you know something about the people involved there is no telling what happened and even the reporters can only guess

I have spent more time in Korea than anywhere else and Japan has historically treated Korea as a colony and probably will never feel like apologizing. Look at how they think of Okuba.....even in video games Okuba is the name some times used for a dumping ground or garbage site .

when I was back at an Air Base in California with my wife in the 80s we/I got my first and worst overt racism. comments in public that surprised me and even a black girl in my unit on day asked "Is she slanted 'down there' too"?

I would have thought a black girl would be more sensitive to bigotry than that.

Posted in: Crown prince warns of need to remember World War II 'correctly' See in context

The Crown Prince however does not have to deal with the day to day problems and is insulated from politics so he is free so say whatever he wants without worry from repercussions. The monarchy can stand above the fray which is a privilege the PM does not have.

Abe is a Japanese patriot and while Americans will stand behind an American patriot 'right or wrong' they hold disdain for patriots of other nations if that patriotism conflicts with American Imperialism because after all America is the world's police force.

in this particular case we are talking about a racist bigot with blind hatred of all things Muslim and used his job with the military as an excuse to murder any person he thought might be on of the "evil muslims" - even the movie didn't make him out to be a hero, that was in the perception of the right wing "my country, right or wrong" crowd who believe that all Muslims are evil even though only a few extremists use the facade of religion as an excuse to cover their criminal behavior

that is so true, in America I learned from experience to only eat at "Sushi" restaurants where the owners/cooks speak Japanese. otherwise there is a good chance they don't even know the meanings of sushi and sashimi which will translate into the so called food they foist on you..

American "oriental and chinese" restaurants are famous for being a mess.

but only those of us who have returned stateside after having been where you can have real food know the difference and it is sad what is accepted in America.

I am often sorry I came back
