Wish her all the happiness in the world after all the interference last few years.

She'll be happier in USA as no one will bother her there and enjoy her married life.

All the best to Princess Mako.

Posted in: Why doesn't the United States appoint career diplomats as ambassadors, as many other countries do? See in context

USA is a very corrupt country where doners and well connected to the party takes precedence over the most qualified for the position.

It happens everywhere even in companies where at times friends and family members get jobs and also the 'yes-men' get promotions. You speak the truth, you are out of the company.

I have taken care of a stroke disabled person for many years alone.

It is a lot of work and strain both mentally and physically.

You have to make the disabled person as part of your and their life, take them everywhere so they are not left out.

There are some life changes both ways and accept them and not run from them.

Posted in: Have you had a long-term friendship, work or family relationship break down over COVID issues? See in context

I met a Japanese girl I met while vacationing in Vietnam in January 2019.

I meant to visit her in Japan.

A lot happened in 2019 on my return to USA. I had some shoulder surgeries plus some very old friends, more like family died from brain cancer. All this prevented me from visiting my new friend in 2019.

I was planning to visit my friend in 2020 during Sakura in Tokyo but as we all know, all hell broke loose with Covid-19. I thought this may be temporary and I will visit during the 2020 Olympics. No way. Two years gone and by end of 2020, nearly three years.

Me with thousands of miles away from my friend, unable to visit and my pleasant and pretty friend in Tokyo with millions of males around her, guess who would win. Not me.

She did meet a local person and got engaged quickly.

I liked her a lot but Covid-19 even till now have prevented me from visiting Japan.

I wish her happiness but hoped the story would have been different. COVID-19 won and I lost.

I bought my house in USA in San Francisco Bay area in the 80's for USD 250,000. Everyone told me not to buy as the economy was in a downturn.

I was a consultant and travelled for my work.

In the 90's, I decided to make a move from California.

I was a big earner and had lots of money. I got tired of it.

I decided to move to Oregon where wages were half what I was getting in California but a less stressful life.

I tried selling my house for less than what I bought for and there were NO buyers.

So, I rented out my house.

In a nutshell, after all those years, the house I could not sell, is now worth around USD 2 million dollars.

Japanese family violence is out of hand.

I would suggest lock all knives in a compartment when family members are around.

Maybe the sharp steel particles did damage to the heart. Need to investigate.

It's one think to place a steel valve in a secure place than sharp steel particles floating around in the body.

Can't they just sit down and talk like mature adults?

Posted in: Now that the Paralympics have ended, are you glad that Japan went ahead and hosted them and the Olympics? See in context

I am a sportsman. I love Olympics. Unfortunately, The Tokyo 2020 Olympics hit a bump on the road where Covid-19 and people's health and safety were a lot more important than playing some games.

IOC is like a mafia and countries have to sign contracts where IOC makes all the major decisions, regardless of the circumstances of the countries.

Tokyo / Japan had little say in cancelling the games.

Plus, holding the Games now are very expensive.

Probably forced by the husband to have two children very early and soon. She is still young adult and a lot of pressure raising two very young children.

I do not condone the violence but she snapped.

Couples should be very careful raising children at a young age.

I have one daughter and we did not have her till we were in our 30s.

If you want to look like slobs, follow the Americans. Americans look like homeless men most of the time. I live here and know how bad it is in USA.

The Europeans know how to dress.

Posted in: Some people think leisure is a waste of time: Here's what I found See in context

I read an article that showed that exercise not only makes you Healthy but also Happy.

I attest to that. Been exercising and playing many sports since a little kid and I love it.

Plus I am surrounded by similar people almost daily.

If I do not exercise, I feel lethargic. Exercise does not mean only pounding weights in a gym; hiking, playing sports, long walks outdoors, riding a bike etc. is all fun.

With all the stresses of everyday life, exercising keeps me sane.

I also like to travel multiple times a year to enjoy the cultures of different countries.

I am not into accumulating money. My happiness comes from the above activities.

yin-yang contracts in China have been around for many years to work around the taxes.

Chinese actress Bing Bing was hit with a fine of $129 million in 2018.

She has not been heard from since then.

China at that time did revise the amount of payments to actors but yin-yang contracts seem to be still going on.

Posted in: How would planting 8 billion trees every year for 20 years affect Earth's climate? See in context

Just trees will not effect climate change.

There is a ton of pollution in many countries that is a major cause.

These countries have to use cleaner energy sources and they are expensive.

A lot of garment industries use polluting energy sources and for them to change, the big companies that want cheaper garmnts production will go elsewhere.

I have been shopping at discount stores for many years since a co worker told me. why pay more when you can get the same cheaper at discount stores.

It's not just garments, anything you need for your everyday life you may find them at the discount store.

Once they are sold, they are gone.

Posted in: In many countries, including Japan, local and state governments are offering cash, gift coupons and other incentives to encourage people who are reluctant to be vaccinated against the coronavirus to do so? Do you think this is a good idea? See in context

Giving cash and gifts has not worked.

In USA, companies are asking for their employees to be vaccinated or be terminated.

In some cases, instead of termination, unvaccinated employees have to pay additional health care costs each month.

American football games will be starting and only vaccinated fans will be allowed or get vaccinated at the stadium in many cases.

Posted in: Not just K-pop: Korean TV shows gaining U.S. popularity See in context

I have been watching Korean TV for many years just on antenna.

I did away with cable as I just watch a handful of shows and did not want to pay an arm and a leg for about 200 channels that I do not watch.

American TV drama is very poor. I do not watch it.

My antenna used to bring in two Korean broadcasters MBS and KBD America.

They are all Live.

MBS moved to another station that I cannot receive on antenna and I am left with only KBS America. Majority of the shows, dramas have English sub titles. Only the news is in Korean and no sub titles.

I had got hoked on Korean dramas but found that most have the same theme and decided not not to watch them unless there is a different one and they are good.

I do enjoy the "Trot" singers competitions and is fun to watch.

My favorite show is every Monday evening called 'Dogs are Incredible'. This show is about a Korean dog trainer who has been asked by dog owners to train their uncontrolled dogs. Some of these dogs have their necks biggers than by chest and biggest fangs that they would use to bite.

It's an incredible show and I have to be in front of TV every Friday to watch it. reruns on Friday.

Korean TV is very good and I love it. If I need to watch news and current events, I watch ARRIANG which is in English, live again.
