Posted in: What do you think of school uniforms in Japan? See in context

Makes me laugh when someone says, that this school uniform was desiggned by this designer, or some even give a liitle favoration to the uniform when selecting the school for their kid. Once my friend and I were invited for dinner by a nice old couple to a posh place. I was shocked when my friend asked me if she should get her daughter to wear the new school uniform to the occasion.Uniform was a status symbol?

The best scene is when the girls ride their bikes with their skirts rolled up to cover their bare minimum. How healthy is that?

Good realtionship with the SB,AU,DMO might work out well. But I found that asking the questions a hundred times, what will be the total cost for this month will be necessary. I sometimes find the sales persons repeating their sales songs over and over again but not answering the question. Then they take out the appli. form and start filling the form.During the process they start explaining that there will be a first month downpayment for the device. It happened to me when I got a wifi USB. Min. monthly payment is 980y. Max. 5770. That is all. Total. 0y starting fee. And then you come home and install the device. There is a monthly fee of 525y. Why did they not tell me this before? I would have included that 525y and not been puzzled. Ofcourse I know that the Service provider is necessary. So I guess, being more upfront and transparent is the best sales tactic.

Skeper, easy to get details. Read the white plan, every word carefully. eg. How many calls do you make from say 9am to noon? Who are they trying to fool? Had Softbank for more than 2 years and had on average 20,000 yen bills. You seem to be very loyal to Sbank? Good luck.

Do not trust Facebook. Goldman Sachs always speculate all sorts of funny things that are hard to believe. Their speculation about BRIC and N-11 countries can give you a clue about the credibility of their information.

gogogo, these naughty bullies are very sneaky, cheeky etc. Not easy to find them. I feel the girl is smart in some way so maybe, if the authorities are careful, they can really bring about a change. As said by many posters, this is a problem all over the world. But we all relied on someone and managed to get away from trouble.Bullying is a social issue; remember getting bullied by a teacher because I came from an affluent family in her opinion.

sakurala, it is nice to see your caring attitude. Hope something good comes out of this. Please reach out if you are able to give that girl a lot of support. If you know the school, maybe a a good greeting card sent to show that others care.

Hugs to that girl for trying to change something in her own way.

I also found a few strange father-daughter relationships. Met a few families and was surprised to see that the relationship was not that great. So asked a very nice 52 year old Jfather why he does not feel that bond with his only child-daughter. He said that he finds that the mother is choking her with some artificial love and he cannot understand that. So he prefers to keep away from that. This father here- I am sure that he loves the child and so decided to do what he thought was right at the moment.

I try not to let anything that others do annoy me. I think that Ivan;s wife is just doing it deliberately. Play the same game she is playing. Let her know that these things do not annoy you and you have accepted it.See what happens next.

Would this book help to know how certain people think? Especially the ones who have the tendency to commit heinous crimes? That broken down concrete house located in the remote island just before he set out sail looked scary. Not everyone in the right mind dares to stay in a place like that? Probably this was one way for others to get him to open up?

Wow, a husband-beater among us. Wonder what authorities think about this kind of domestic violence.

Men helped in shopping, bringing the ingredients, cutting wood, fetching water for the cooking? The women i he old days owned the kitchens. The Jmen I know, in their 20s - 70s cook their food. My dad started cooking when he retired from work. Traditions similar to osechi exist in other countries too.

Moderator: Back on topic please.

Osechi preparation involved the entire family and would have given the whole family to interact in a different way. Must have been fun when many hands made loads of stuff, shared the time making the stuff. Younger ones and new additions to the family learned stuff from the older members. But in today's fast-paced world, it is a task to meet your siblings even if you live not far from each other. Wish there was another way to pass on the tradition. Groupon failed here as they did not assess thge situation well.

Ask Zenny where to find the best Tofu doughnuts in Tokyo? Does Michelin giys know about it? Maybe Michelin should hire foreigners living in Tokyo in their search for candidates to award stars.

Posted in: The great Tokyo Michelin sham See in context

how to slap a piece of raw fish on some rice.

Curious to know if the author comes from some place where there is no original cuisine but all borrowed from other cultures? Try telling me about my ethnic cuisine. Anyway, why is this Michelin so worried about giving their stars? Who needs them anyway? Appreciating the delicate tastes of the Japanese cuisine is also an art. Ofcourse, when I crave for some good pizza in Tokyo, it gets tough. None of the nice places have that. The closest I can get is the Saizeriya thin crust pizza, with the right amount of sourness of the bread and the tomatos.

Thanks Zenny for that gem of a comment on how best the French cuisine can be described. True they are masters in wine and cheese, but others.. Prefer the Russian soups anyday, german breads and sausages uncopiable. If I crave for the ramen, or okonomiyaki I will not go to the korean restaurant but to a good Japanese place. I know that I will get exactly what I want.

While commuting in the train, the best thing for me is to close my eyes. You will not imagine how comforting and fun that is. Gaijins can try to close their big eyes and not stare at all the funny things going on:). I have fragrance sprayed on my wrist, in case I have to battle with some unpleasant odor.

How do these women hope to survive in this life if they throw these relationships away? Huggy pillows can help to a certain extent but then... Well, good luck to them. (Nikkei survey)

The guy's type: Being able to cook your country specific recipes is interesting. Should let the Italians do the pastas and pizzas, Germans-bread and Japanese - all the amazing Japan specific recipes. Who can do better? Being adventurous is another thing.
