So, the truth hurts does it? These fishermen and infant the whole town could benefit from Eco tourism rather than the wholesale slaughter of sentient beings.

So, finally these countries are admitting that the slaughter of these magnificent animals is not for science.....
It is about time that Iceland and Japan told the world the truth.

If it is such a great tradition, why cover the cove so that the World can't see what you are doing? I suspect that you know that it is wrong to torture anything. I am against the hunt, and even more so about the torture. I have many Japanese friends that are appalled by the Taiji drive. The are ashamed to call themselves Japanese at this time of the year. It is not just one a year when it is for six months!

You state "Who is making the really lovely people in Japan into really nasty? Why do you think you have authority to force the western dolphin-loving culture on Japanese people against their will? GTFO."
If as you say we are trying to force our "western dolphin-loving culture on Japanese people against their will", then why does your country (JAPAN) have dolphin aquariums? is it because you go there to pick your next meal? No! It's because like the Westerners, the Japanese also love watching dolphins!
The only difference is, is that we would rather see them in the oceans!
If you are going to contradict westerners and criticise us, then at least get your facts correct!!!!!

Paul,
That's the sort of rubbish I would expect from a five year old! lol
I am not, and have never been a terrorist of any sort! I am an environmental scientist (one who does not kill anything).
The west has gotten more scientific information from electronic tagging etcin the last few years, than the Japanese have from their butchery of cetaceans in their entire history of whaling.
There is nothing to be gained by killing these creatures. There is more money to be made from "eco holidays" and cetacean watching.

tinawatanabe, What is this rubbish about Western verses eastern? Should we not all be humans? And as humans, do we not all have a duty of care for the Earth?
Taiji is not as you say a family business it is a barbaric practice! Running over any animal with the propeller of a skiff is tantamount to torture! Starving animals for four days is torture!
Plundering the World's Oceans is pure stupidity, I have seen this first hand as a diver. Barren sea beds where dredgers have been. I am a Westerner, and I do not condone a lot of the practices here, and campaign against those too.

The brutal way that Japanese capture cetaceans and then hold them in pens for days without any food I barbaric.
These beautiful but helpless animals are then subjected to the utmost terror imaginable by these so called fishermen. They are run over by the props of the skiffs and manhandled into boats to be enslaved.
The poor animals left behind are then terrified and rounded into the cove and brutally murdered. These dolphins DO NOT die quickly, some taking up to twelve minutes to die a most painful death, whilst the rest can only look on helpless knowing that they too will be next.
This is not a tradition this is cold blooded murder.
I will never visit a marine park, and yes I do speak out to help these animals and donate to Sea Shephard.

Funny that all the bird flu cases so far have been in farms and not wild birds...
Surely if it was wild bird flu, then we would have 1000's of wild birds dropping out of the sky.

I have not seen any scientific advances coming out of Japan from their commercial (you can't really call it anything else) whaling practices.
Last year it was seen by the whole world that the whales were caught and butchered straight away on the deck of these whaling ships.
We have learnt more in the last five years studying live whales in their natural environment than Japan's whaling practices in the last 50 years!
It is time to stop this barbaric process.
And leave the dolphins alone too!

tinawatanabe,
As long as the people of Taiji commit these atrocities to these wonderful animals, then they deserve all the comments against them. And before you try to berate me with your holier than thou rubbish, I happen to be a vegetarian. If Japan continues to practice this barbaric practice, and the government upholds it, then don't be surprised at the negative comments towards your country.

Could I ask a silly question?
Why is there a market for Whale meat in Japan if the whaling is just for scientific purposes? Surely if they are making scientific discoveries then the whale's bodies should be stored?
Oh I get it. There is no scientific study on whales in Japan.
I watched a factory ship, (yes factory ship) hauling three whales on board and then get to work butchering the animals for their meat! This proves that they are commercial whaling and nothing to do with science!
What scientific discoveries have you made in this area Japan? Oh yes, absolutely NONE!
