The fact that the United States will grow faster that China this year

Bloomberg research predicts USA to grow 2.7% vs China to grow 2% this year.... there is a caveat though, these predictions does change depending on how events work out (i.e. China's zero policy changes if any etc..) so its better to wait till the end of 2022 to really be sure whether USA did grow faster

Tokyo Medical School, Juntendo University and Kitasato University admitted the issue and apologized, while St Marianna University of Medicine denied the claims.

i don't want to hear the apology crap!

so what will be done to ensure this does not happen again? is their a regulating body that can monitor and enforce to ensure females will be treated equally?

One man riding the same escalators up and down all day behind school girls at the same station might have been the first clue for police present in the station

even the police can’t be trusted, wasn’t there a police officer caught hiding below the stairway taking pics of ladies…

That it is. It happened as sort of a mistake at the time. But we just continued having separate last names. But when deciding a first name, we specifically chose kanji. Of course, kanji is cool. And we did think about the sound and meaning of the name. But one of the reasons was to make her invisible / blend in when others were just looking at paperwork.

i'm on the same boat as you maxjapank. my two daughters have japanese names... there are also a few half kids in my daughter's school who does this too so i think its quite typical nowadays...

well, at least we know our kids won't get their job application cancelled by Yoshinoya's recuriter :)

Posted in: Musk warns Japan will cease to exist if birthrate continues decline See in context

rapid decline in population has huge effects on economy and employment...

no company will want to invest in Japan in the future if there is a declining demand for their product/service ... and guess what will happen to employment in Japan....

and what tech advancement to boost productivity? well, your population is declining so you have less brains to come up with these new tech ideas...

this is a huge concern and i have yet to see the dinosaurs in charge of this country do anything about it!

China's history is one of the most bloody war histories. In its history, so many countries have came and gone through relentless fights among different ethnicities completely speaking different languages

They are also the most cruel when, torturing people, killing people.

wrong! When it comes to torturing no one is more cruel than the Japanese!

my kids are half Japanese and I will make sure they are aware of Japan’s past…

but back on topic, Tamaki should be careful what he ask for… China will take advantage of Okinawa if they get too close

Posted in: Japan to ease COVID border controls 'in stages' from June: Kishida See in context

"I will promote bold monetary policy, flexible fiscal policy and growth strategies that would trigger private-sector investment," he said.

too funny! we all know being flexible is not Japan's forte!

and his growth strategies? this is his plan:

1) direct a greater share of corporate earnings to workers through incentives that “fundamentally strengthen our support within the tax code” for companies that raise wages.

2) expand the middle class and counter the declining birthrate by providing more financial aid for educational expenses and bolstering “support for families with small children,” such as by improving childcare services.

3) increase “the income of those working at facilities providing medical nursing, elderly care, childcare services and the like” by reviewing the “public prices” on which their incomes have been based.

to sum it up, his plan is basically to increase the wealth of the middle class and hoping they will spend more to boost the economy...

the problem is, how do we know they will spend it and not save for the rainy days and this is going to put the govt deeper in debt (increase spending to support families and reduced corp taxes)!

Posted in: Dollar rises to highest level against yen since June 2015; stocks fall See in context

Tourism comprises a miniscule percentage of foreign income for Japan. You'd think it's very big because every restaurant, hotel, store is crying about no foreign tourists. But the export of goods far exceeds this source, and a weaker JYen will work to increase exports.

foreign tourist generates about $46billion USD to the economy (in 2019) while total exports is like $4 trillion USD... so yeah you are right foreign tourism is very small in the grand scheme of things... but still, $46b USD is alot of money and can generate a lot of jobs... definitely prefer Opening up for foreign tourism...
