@Shinkansen

I don’t have a disabled family member nor do I know what it takes to take care of one but I do know this; murdering one is never the answer.

Care to share any statistics to back up your wild claim that crime is getting worse in Japan? (Daily crime stories on JT are not "crime statistics", by the way).

Sure. Crime is getting worse everywhere. Every time a crime happens, crime goes up. If someone kills someone yesterday, and then someone kills someone else today, you can’t say, “Crime isn’t getting worse cause look, we had one murder yesterday and one today so the rate didn’t go up.”

The rate may have not gone up, but crime did and now 2 people are dead.

And neither can you say that crime is getting better. “ One person was murdered yesterday and no one was murdered today so look crime is less.” The original crime still happened at a point in time which made crime to go up.

One crime is too many.

Don’t mind quarantining......yes, it’s not ideal

but doable.......they need to end the 72 hour corona test. That’s the problem. Many people can’t get the test results back within 72 hours much less risk the return ticket.

Yes because we all know that once you register your crossbow at the city office, it will never be used in a crime.

And the purpose of registering is just to say that the prefecture knows x amount of people have crossbows???

As a regular commuter on the Takarazuka line, I see these girls daily. They have always freaked me out. They are almost like robots. Perfect in every way. They can’t sit on the train, they always stand in the middle of the platform and must let all the passengers enter first. Always in perfect posture, with a frozen face, and a slight smile. Looks scary.

Posted in: Dwayne Johnson hangs on to top spot on Forbes highest-paid male actors list See in context

I don't know why, but I don’t really enjoy most Dwayne Johnson's movies. He's been in a few great ones (all the Fast-), but most are boring, crazy, add to your life problems and misery movies. Just look at The Scorpion King* for total cure to insomnia. UnLikeable persona, though I obviously have no idea what he's really like.

Wahlberg has been in a few that I hated like The Big Hit, but I’m such a huge fan.

Will Smith is mostly miss with a few hits Independence Day, MiB 1-2-3, Hancock, I am Legend are all terrible.

When I came to Japan in 1996:

63% of males smoked.

100% of those were males.

23% of those walked and smoked.

and only 10% chance of that.

I agree with you. At least 20 years. Because we all know that human life is at least 20 years, After 20 years, a killer is good to leave. I know that the victim was young and when the killer gets out, the victim would have been only 44. But who doesn’t want to die at 44???

@dbisya

what happens when you jump the gun???

let’s see:

1) people go back to work

2) people can live without the fear of not being be able to pay rent

3) people can provide for families

4) people can be cautious; stay inside if they choose to; wash hands and practice social distancing as much as possible

continuing emergency:

1) people still not “obeying” emergency

2) people still getting infected( which funny how media doesn’t tell you how many people have gotten this or recovered from it)

3) people living in fear of how they can pay rent? Eat? Provide?

the world is NEVER going to be safe... it seems like you want a guarantee of life (read John 3:16 if you want that)

@rat

Well "John" are you going to "feel" the same way after you get infected. Second, are you willing to pay for (through higher national health insurance dues) those who were irresponsible and decided to risk it and got infected? After all, treatment is not free! Just asking. I mean you seem to think a few thousand more dead is "worth" the freedom of us working hard to make our rich oligarchs even richer.

So the people who can’t afford to pay rent, utilities and so forth can stay at your place next month???

I called Osaka Gas, Kansai Electric and my landlord.... their response...”tough... we need our money.”

let me know your address and I’ll come and stay with you next month... oh, by the way I can’t chip in for anything because I’m unemployed!!!

3 ( +8 / -5 )

Posted in: Gov't waiting for Golden Week to decide on extending state of emergency See in context

@stevieJ

So let’s all stay home and shutdown the economy. Let’s all sleep in a tent down by the river because none of us can rent because hey landlords here are so forgiving. I’m sure they’ll let everyone live for free while they have no jobs.

Isn’t proof of income a major factor when getting a loan from the bank or moving into new house??

This virus is bad for everyone but let’s be serious.... most people get it and get over it. How long do you think that 100,000 yen would last a single person??? A month.

if they extend the shutdown then that’s more unemployment...

All of that money just to see who can run the fastest, swim the strongest, and jump the highest among other non trivial activities..

if I asked you who got gold in the 1976 100 m sprint; you wouldn’t have an idea without googling it... then after googling, it would be just a “ah” moment, you might remember his name for some days but then would soon forget... asked the same question some time later you’d say “ oh, I know this one but I forgot’”.

it’s meaningless to spends so much money like this on stupid sports that no one is going to remember who you are in the future......

This is enough money money to house the homeless in Japan, send the needy to college, help people who need help.... but what does society do....”Sorry, we need to see who can run the fastest. It’s so exciting to know this.” Not just Japan, this is all societies!!!
