The above is a very biased article in the sense that it doesn't include a single voice out of +40million secular citizens of the country. This wasn't not just about Christianity or wahabi Islamism, it was more importantly about the secular values of Turkey!

Turkey should be out of Nato now.

@Zaphod, NATO cannot afford to lose Turkey- under Erdogan's ruling the country has been turned into a puppet state; he does everything Trump tells him to do:

And look at these people, how nice they are. Look at them. They’re so easy to deal with. Look at them. Central casting. There’s no Hollywood set where you could produce people that look like them. -Remarks by President Trump Before Bilateral Meeting | Osaka, Japan

Currently Erdogan is building a canal for the US navy. This canal is cutting the western terrace of Marmara Region into half but is also allowing a gateway for the NATO countries such as the US and UK to easily navigate across the Aagean and Black Sea. Under the Montreux Treaty no war ships are allowed to through Bosphorus. In the future if the US and UK declare war against Russia, they will certainly use the canal this menace has been building for them.

This is dirty politics- Erdogan is playing the Islamic Wahhabi card once again. There are at least 5 other mosques in close proximity to Hagia Sophia but not a single museum of this kind in the whole city. This is not the first time Erdogan is using Wahhabi Islamism to gain a political advantage over his secular rival Kilichardoglou. In the past Erdogan had also published a Kurdish version of Quran and asked support from millions of religious Kurds during his general election campaign.

Erdogan has put hundreds of thousands of free-thinking secular citizens of the country in prisons and promoted wahhabi scumbags from tariqats and wahhabi congregations to key positions in politics and major state owned corporations. By converting Hagia Sophia into a mosque he thinks he is erasing Ataturk's heritage- secularism and scientific free thinking in the country. After the closure of Ataturk Airport and Ataturk Culture Centre in Istanbul this is another threat made against those who don't support him. Speaking of free thinking Erdogan removed the teaching of Darwanism from the curriculum about 3 years ago and opened thousands of tariqat controlled wahhabist schools. After Ataturk's mausoluem in Ankara, Hagia Sophia was the second most visited site by secular citizens of Turkey. Don't be fooled by his defiant attitude when he says no other country has power over his country any longer. This is a very derogatory speech made against Ataturk when you think Ataturk was not under foreign pressure whatsoever when he converted Hagia Sophia to a museum! But here we are, we have this two faced cow who keeps blaming the "foreign powers" when the economy in the country goes down the hill...

The right to keep and bear arms was first recognized as a constitutional right under Article 10 of the Mexican Constitution of 1857. This hasn't changed since then so much and yes fire arm crimes are a cultural thing in Mexico by tradition. This needs to be addressed first before anything but the US and Canada are more than happy with the current situtaion in Mexico and I believe they would put pressure on any Mexicon gov if they attempted to change the current tradition.

Business is business, whether it is in Vatican or in Mecca it makes no difference to those who make billions from it. In this sense nothing is holy about Mecca, nothing is holy about Vatican, nothing is holy about religions that function as money making factories. I don't know where people get such ideas but certainly declaring an X place as holy (and the rest not so holy) would go against the creator's work.

Never in the history of the US has there been an executive as blatantly dishonest as Trump.

I didn't know there were honest politicians in the history of the US...But you are right, Trump is the worst so far.

It is hard to understand what the UK gov is trying to achieve with this kind of derogatory politics. We keep upsetting the EU, we keep upsetting Russia and now we started upsetting China...Why? It is because the current gov in US doesn't want a strong EU, strong China or Russia in any foreseeable future and being the closest ally to the US our government does everything to please Trump.

The EU's Covid budget will only benefit losers like Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary and Portugal. The developed members of EU (Germany, France, the Netherlands, Denmark, Sweeden, Finland, Belgium) once again have to look after the rest. What a burden!

I don't know what people are going about here. We didn't have vaccines in the past but we survived nevertheless. Viruses and bacteria are the indigenous occupants of the planet. We existed before us and they will exist after us. In this regard they deserve respect and protection. Poor little things, shame nobody loves them...

@Zaphod

Libya has an UN recognised government as the name suggests its government is the only legit and sovereign entity over Libya. In this regard the Libyan gov doesn't need anyone's permission to do business with another counry such as Turkey. The Libyan Government represent the people of Libya. What a stupid thing to say Libya represents the Muslim Brotherhood- you are saying 193 nations in the world did not know that Libyan Gov actually represented the MB and thus they made the mistake of recognising the Libyan Gov. What an airhead you are!

The Muslim Brotherhood was a missionary movement founded in Egypt in 1928 by Hassan al-Banna, a schoolteacher working in the town of Ismailia, near the Suez Canal. He argued that an Islamic religious revival would enable the Muslim world to catch up to the West and shake off colonial rule. Muslim Brotherhood rejected western colonialism to this day and their political ideology goes against Sisi's military ruling, which is supported by Israel, the UK and US.

The MB had offices in Cairo, London, Amman...in the past but this has all changed once the US and their allies declared war against gog (gas/oil/gold) rich but militarily weak muslim countries namely Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Syria. I note that Israel considers anyone who supports the freedom movement of Palestinians a terrorist group. Israel claims Hamas is an off-shoot of the MB and thus they argue both MB and Hamas are terrorist groups. However many countries don't agree with Israel and their allies in this regard.

@William77 China did not create this virus, the virus was already present in nature and it was perhaps a matter of time before it jumped onto humans. Sars and flu viruses are nothing new to science but we don't blame a certain nation for them. Similarly we have Ebola and HIV, and BSE which originated from the UK. Who do you want to blame for these?

DEXAMETHASONE It reduced deaths by 36%

I don't belive in any studies carried out in the UK. We are dying of Covid19 every single day here in the UK and our government doesn't bother buying the most basic PPEs and respiratory machines. Mind you the UK gov had also introduced a miracle drug namely Paracetomol ;) claiming this medicine in most cases would eliminate the need for respiratory machines which 99% of UK hospitals lack...I guess our government don't have money for public healthcare but they have every resources when it comes to military invasions.

@PTownsend- Erdogan is hardly a threat to any nation in the west. The western powers come and destroy poor but natural resource rich countries in the region and the Turks bear the brunt of refugees from the region- unofficial figures suggest there are over 6 million refugees in Turkey today. Also, I note that you guys avoid talking about geo-politics. Turkey is an Eastern Mediterrenian country, that means they are in a very close proximity to the disputed international waters where natural gas is- the same cannot be said for Germany, France, Saudi Arabia, UAE. Please note I am talking about international waters here and not Libya. By bypassing Turkey in the region, those countries- Greece, Italy, France, Israel, Egypt, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Germany are doing a huge injustice to other nations in the region especially to the Turks. Why shouldn't Turks benefit from the Mediterrenian gas? Surely in essence such gas doesn't belong to any nation. Turkey is supporting the UN recognised Libyan Government and not the radical groups as suggested. So why should this upset anyone? I guess it does upset the western scavengers because if Turkey does support the legit Libyan Government and expand their energy business with Libya, Germany, France, Greece etc will no longer able to bypass Turkey in relation to the Eastern Mediterrenian gas reserves. I don't understand why you people think region's energy business has something to do with Hagia Sophia. There are hundreds of mosques which have been converted to a church across Eastern Europe and Spain; Black Mosque- Bulgaria, Gazi Kashim Pasha Mosque- Hungary, Faik Pasha Mosque- Greece, Bajrakli Mosque- Serbia....But noone blames them for converting these mosques to a church. Erdogan is trying to erase secularity in his country- first Ataturk Culture Centre, then Ataturk Airport and now Hagia Sophia...His actions however should not be confused with the region's 2 decade old military invasions- he is a very loyal and beneficial friend to Trump after all.

The Eastern Mediterranean seabed has the highest volume of natural gas in the world but the problem is that Italy, Israel, Greece, France, UAE and Saudi Arabia have bypassed Turkey- the country with the longest Mediterranean coastline. Turks cannot any longer afford to sit back and watch while the resources of the region are exploited by the west and their country is constantly flogged with refugees from Afghanistan, Iraq, Sudan, Yemen! Any conflict in the region means oil, gas and gold for the west but more refugees for especially Turkey. However, neither Europe nor Turkey is going to be put off by humanitarian aspects of Libyan conflict. It is too late for that!

Posted in: COVID-19 antibody test passes first major trials in UK with 98.6% accuracy: report See in context

Couple of months ago the UK gov had already announced that they would develop an effective testing kit as well as respiratory machines but a few weeks later it turned out that their new testing kit was beyond useless and there were no plans to make respiratory machines- nevertheless some with close ties to the UK gov made millions of pounds...And now this new testing kit- nobody talks about this in the UK and patients still wait for a week for their results. If the UK gov had valued their citizens at all, they would have prepared their hospitals and the entire nation for the worst since the second wave is now inevitable. But here we are- no PPEs, people walk freely without masks or visors; our hospitals lack basic equipment incl respiratory machines. If the Japanese people want to help us, please tell your gov to send PPEs and respiratory machines to the UK. I don't trust our gov at all!
