I grew up as a kid enjoying a "suicide mix" at restaurant soda fountains—mixing together various flavored sodas to create an original concoction that could be either incredibly delicious or nauseatingly revolting.

Mixing of vaccines, however, brings a whole new meaning to that term...

A young English footballer, Marcus Rashford, a kid from a deprived background, campaigned to extend free school meals in the summer for deprived children.

Was he campaigning on the field? That's the difference.

Furthermore, he actually was dealing with a serious social problem that was backed not only be anecdotal evidence but my statistics. BLM is based on a flat out lie. The data proves it. Also, the athletes supporting BLM are doing absolutely nothing to improve the lives of black Americans... much like the movement BLM actually. Kaepernick, for example, had never spent any of his own time or money campaigning social issues. In fact, all he does now is go around speaking at different events and getting paid loads of money for his appearances.

Lastly, I would argue that feeding poor children is not really a political issue. It is something EVERYONE can get behind and support... kind of the point behind sports in general.

Professional athletes have worked long and hard to get where they are. Like actors and musicians their popularity gives them a certain amount of political clout.

Who ever said actors, musicians, and athletes have ANY political clout? They only THINK they do! That is the whole problem with this. They are entertainers. That is it. Nothing more.

If they want to be "activists" they can use their own time and their own money. When they are working for US (that's right, as entertainers they are working for us), they should keep their own political beliefs to themselves... I don't care if I agree or disagree with them.

@sunfunbun

I'll tell you what I told Silvafan:

The "on many sides" comment is an absolute, bold-faced lie. Did you ever hear what Trump actually said instead of the edited versions from MSM?

"But you also had people that were very fine people, on both sides. You had people in that group -- excuse me, excuse me -- I saw the same pictures as you did. You had people in that group that were there to protest the taking down of, to them, a very, very important statue and the renaming of a park from Robert E. Lee to another name . . . And you had people, and I’m not talking about the neo-Nazis and the white nationalists, because they should be condemned totally. But you had many people in that group other than neo-Nazis and white nationalists. OK?"

He unequivocally condemns Nazi supremacists, doesn't he?

@Silvafan

First of all, I said: WITHOUT LIBERAL COMMENTARY.

And, once again, you demonstrated the intellectual dishonesty of the left. The "on many sides" comment, for example, is an absolute, bold-faced lie. Did you ever hear what Trump actually said instead of the edited versions from MSM?

"But you also had people that were very fine people, on both sides. You had people in that group -- excuse me, excuse me -- I saw the same pictures as you did. But you had many people in that group other than neo-Nazis and white nationalists. OK?"

Why can Biden and Clinton make blatantly racist statements that are NOT taken out of context and it is called "jest." But when Trump says something, even when he clarifies his statement, he is a horrible racist?

Be better. Be honest. And maybe your party won't lose more voters like me.

Perhaps to those who want to dismiss the reality that racism persists and want to do nothing about it.

That's right... attempt to delegitimize an opinion you don't like by making up falsehoods and conflating the issue. No one is saying racism does not exist. What is being said is that it is a lot less of a problem than the left wants it to be. You want the wound to heal, then STOP PICKING AT IT! It'd be much easier to take all this outrage against racism and "racial injustice" seriously if the outrage was equally distributed in all cases and not always so obviously politically motivated. Case in point:

https://edition.cnn.com/2019/08/02/us/dallas-police-body-cam-footage-captures-death/index.html

Did you hear about that? I bet not. Why not? Because Timpa is white, so it doesn't align with the narrative the left wants told.

Posted in: Searching 'racist' on Twitter brings up Trump as top result See in context

No surprise there, it's just telling what we already know.

What do you know? That Trump is a racist? Give me one, specific piece of evidence that shows he is what you claim he is. None of this conjecture or liberal commentary... an actual instance where Trump demonstrated unequivocal racism. Just one.

Trump is certainly uncouth; he is not the most articulate and oftentimes rather crass. But the "racism" accusation is just tiresome. It is what the left does whenever they don't like someone and their ideas and, in fact, hurts your cause.

I once was a left-leaning moderate—didn't even vote in the 2016 election. But the last 3.5 years have pushed me to the right. My family and friends are the same. We will all be voting for Trump and Republican straight ticket. Not sure I will ever be able to vote for a dem as long as they remain so intellectually dishonest.

I can't see this happening this year... many/most universities have already started their term online. A lot of the international and private schools have also made the move to online learning. What is going to happen to these schools who went ahead and took the initiative and switched to online? This will end up being a complicated mess because the Japanese government refused to act early, as they usually do. It isn't until they basically have no other choice do they finally make the hard decisions. But this ends up making things a lot messier for everyone else.

Would tuition from April to September this year be refunded? People are more or less paying for nothing.

My kids go to a private international school. They have moved everything online, with live lessons streamed daily. I teach at a private university in the Tokyo area, and we have moved our classes online. It is a MASSIVE amount of work... much more than if we had had classes in-person as usual. Also, because the online classes are new for the students, I have to make myself readily available for any questions they may have, so I am constantly replying to emails and LINE messages. So I don't know what you are talking about... people are in fact paying for A LOT more than what they normally get.

Donny has a small stake in Sanofi, one of the manufacturers of the drug.

Did you notice how the media stopped reporting on that? You know why? His ''small'' stake is about $1300. Furthermore, it is most likely a mutual fund, and if you know how mutual funds work, you will know how absurd your comment really is.

The study is not "fake" and do show the data and how their conclusions are being reached, that is the value of a scientific report.

Did I say it was fake? Much like the authors of this study, you should stop jumping to conclusions.

Posted in: No benefit, higher death rate for malaria drug in coronavirus study See in context

The problem here is that this is not an experimental study, and, as such, proves absolutely nothing. It is a meta-analysis of carefully chosen patient records. All of these patients were hospitalized and the analysis was performed post hoc. Doctors caring for the patients made clinical and not experimental decisions. The "control" group was made up of patients whom doctors chose not to treat with ANY therapies upon entering the hospital. Why not? Common sense would lead us to conclude that doctors assessed the patients and thought they were better off than those who were given at least a single treatment. It's the job of the analysts to rule out that possibility. Furthermore, the sample size is concerning. Across the entire VA hospital system, these researchers were not able to find even 400 patients to analyze with fewer than 75 deaths? That does not make sense. Either the virus is far less serious than is being reported or there was cherrypicking, which should also be ruled out via instrumental variables.

When this type of statistical malfeasance occurs, it sows confusion. We have to wait for definitive data that was responsibly collected and analyzed before making any real determinations. Otherwise, these guys are no better than Trump et al trying to manipulate data to score political points.

The economic impact is not unrelated to Trump and his Trade War with China. This is what they mean that China will fight back. It’s not the bat or the wet markets for there are no bats in the market or in the area and no “accident” from the Institute of Virology. This is the result of the Trade War for which the CCP mainly and Trump are responsible.

@quercetum - If your claim is true that China released this in retaliation for Trump's trade war (which is absurd on its own), then blaming Trump for the virus is like blaming the girl who broke up with the boy who went crazy and shot up a shopping mall for the deaths of those who he killed.
