Posted in: China echoes concerns over North Korean rocket launch plans See in context

China will continue to protect North Korea until the rest of the world makes it unbearably unprofitable (financially or otherwise) to do so.

Posted in: With luxury Acura makeover, Honda aims for brand survival, China revival See in context

I own a 2002 Acura RSX Type-S. When a Honda Civic passes me going the other way, I often have to look twice to see that it's not another RSX. As in right now, today. 13 years after my car was made, probably 15 years after it was designed. Acuras look boring. They look like Hondas. There's nothing distinctive or attractive. I'm sure they're great cars, but there are lots of great cars now. Acura does absolutely nothing to stand out.

This is not rocket science. Hire Pininfarina. Hire Bartone. Hire somebody who knows how to design a car that looks as exciting as the performance Honda puts in Acuras.

And while they're at it..... can we PLEASE have a sport coupe again? Not the NSX -- one that people can afford. The Integra and RSX were fantastic cars. The absence of a successor is a gigantic hole in the model line.

Posted in: GM bets Americans will buy cars made in China See in context

I think Americans will be wary at first. But if the quality is up to the (marginal) quality standards of American-made vehicles, eventually people will snap them up just like the Chinese goods at Wal-Mart.

Japan has national pension and health care systems that everyone pays into, and they seem to be ok. But between those two systems, they can't fix situations like this? Is it because the man didn't ask for help, or because there was no help available to him? This is a very sad story, and it could become a more familiar story as the population ages.

He has a track record of going to a new team, winning, then losing. It's happened everywhere he's been the head man.

MJ and Quincy Jones were a fantastic team. Well written, well performed, well recorded, well produced. I disagree with Mocheake - I think Thriller was the overall better album, but Off the Wall was great, too.

ASIMO has been around for 15 years. I know there have been upgrades and improvements, but isn't it time for ASIMO's successor?

Surprising performance by Chelsea, considering they aren't playing worth a damn in the Premier League.

But they're not giving back bag check fees, headset fees, blanket fees, etc. Because we have all become used to those charges. The next time oil gets expensive and the airlines are hurting, what other things will they find to charge us for that we get at no charge now? Will we have to pay extra to have a seat to sit in?

Posted in: At post-Blatter FIFA, can World Cup vote be clean? See in context

You want truth and transparency? Forget about voting. Decide who hosts the World Cup by holding an open auction. High bidder takes it. Any other process is vulnerable, and it will be taken over by greed and corruption. Just like the Olympics.

I have a feeling that whoever was responsible for keeping the start at 15:00 is going to have a lot to answer for. Also, I can't understand the logic of bringing heavy equipment out from behind the barriers with only a local yellow. Something that so obviously compromises driver safety should be out there only under the safety car.

Scary. I understand that this is a special place and people want to go there, but I have to question why anyone would want to get that close to a volcano that has been active as recently as 7 years ago. (Unless you're a real live vulcanologist, and these people weren't.) There's no warning, no prediction, and no second chance. If you happen to be there at the wrong time, the outcome is likely to be tragic.

I'm hoping for the best for the survivors, and those not yet rescued.

NAFTA was a governmental sanction to move jobs out of the U.S. to Mexico. It wasn't the first step in the evisceration of the middle class, just the most obvious. TPP will do the same thing. Even if the jobs don't go to China, they will still leave Japan - for Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, etc.....

Both pitchers threw for the entire 50 innings. By the end of the 45th inning, the pair had thrown a combined 1,252 pitches to 225 batters.

I don't care if they're pitching slow and underhand, that's insane.

I realize that I'm used to a different tradition of taking things to court rather than gutlessly giving in to the police, but shouldn't this be immediately presented to a judge or a panel of judges? This isn't pornography, it's art. And people are given plenty of notice about what they're going to see. Ridiculous.
