Asking a lady out to dinner is not abussive. In fact half the criteria for harassement in this article isn't harassment in Japanese culture. Disillusioned....

11 pm is a common time for Japanese kids to sleep. They normaly lay down with mom until they fall asleep. And don't have their own room until 10 or older.

Japanese mothers don't like to spank their kids so they have a deep disrespect for them at a young age to begin with. And mature with the sense they have equal rights in the home. Rather than a grateful sense of what parents provide.

The suspects parents are likely living at home and she has gone away to high school.
