I guess there are some lists you don't want to be number 1.

One can't judge the past with today's standards.

Posted in: Sumo wrestler quits, saying his coronavirus fears were ignored See in context

I lost a lot of respect for sumo when women weren't allowed to render first aid in the past. After this, I have no respect left for this organization.

Stress, drunk and memory loss are the triumvirate of excuses for crime in Japan.

Destruction happens overnight (riots). Construction doesn't happen overnight (positive changes). Things take time to evolve constructively.

Posted in: 'Escape from Tokyo' hot topic ahead of state of emergency See in context

That's insane. They do understand that if they leave Tokyo for a month, they'll still have to pay for rent in Tokyo AND wherever they end up, right? If they're not working, from where is the additional income supposed to come?

WTF. We are so in trouble

What do you mean? You think that by beating the deadline, those who showed up a day earlier are not infected? C'mon, be for real....

Posted in: 'Star Wars' Christmas See in context

Just look at all the so-called "Christmas" ornaments. 99% of them have nothing to do with the holiday season. Frozen? Mini Me? etc....gimme a break. It's just commercialism. The same in America as in Japan. At least we all know it's not religious holiday here. What's the excuse in America?

Posted in: Father, daughter stabbed by man outside Gunma home See in context

I’ve been reading news from this site for quite a while now, but something always nagged at me. Why is it most of the criminal acts mentioned here seem to describe the perpetrator with the “unemployed” adjective? Do statistics show that more crimes are committed by those without a job, or is it a subtle way to stereotype those who don’t hold a job? I guess one can say that “idle hands are the devil’s workshop”, but is this really true? When others commit crimes, like the step-father who, through neglect, killed his five year old step-daughter, it was never mentioned he was employed. Why is “unemployed” used so often to describe creeps and criminals? Is it close to a pre-requisite? Just curious. I don’t live here. I just travel here and am curious.

Ano, if the JRP isn't allowed on the GranClass on JR East trains, ypu have to pay full fare minue base fare, you think they're going to allow the pass on these JR Tokai trains? Remember, it's the N700 and I'm sure they'll use them for the Nozomi service first, making your point moot.

I've seen this happen quite often. It's usually elderly people who seem to be irritated by the younger people on their phones. They purposely step into their way to cause them to collide and most often, drop their phones.

Posted in: Municipalities expect Tokyo Olympics to bring more foreign visitors See in context

For years I have been suggesting that countries, not cities, host these types of games. That way, most of the infrastructure needed will most likely be already built somewhere. That way, most of the citizens of the country would feel a part of the Olympics, as one or two events would be held close to them. What’s the point of selling tickets to non-Tokyoite Japanese if they can’t visit and stay the night because accommodations would be near impossible to procure. An Olympics shared by a whole country would be less taxing on the whole country. The rest of the country would benefit from some of the tourism to their areas.

featuring overweight men in top-knots and loincloths bashing each other in a circular mud ring.
