Damn! 0n the 5th floor of the hospital waiting for my son to be born. Was about ready to rip out her IV and carry down the stairs. Not the kind of added stress I need today, but hopefully this speeds the process up a bit!

Clemenza - Have you not read the facts of the story? Or have you only based your entire judgement on the situation from the JT story? The driver was unaware that he had hit the girl, and was in no way knowingly driving away from the scene. That was the articles assumption, providing no proof to support that accusation.

Once again smithinjapan, you fail to see my point. You're original post asked, "why is he not being charged for fleeing the scene?" You automictically judged without having the facts, and that IS mob justice mentality. Go with the heart instead of the intellect. By all means, this driver should be held accountable for his actions. I never said pity the driver, I never said the driver was innocent. I said don't judge until you know the facts of a situation. Knee jerk reactions are to common and cause more harm than good. Don't worry, I'm sure that now that the facts have surfaced, you can sit high and mighty in your "I'm always right" chair and feel good about yourself.

So sorry for the grief that you and your circle must be feeling. Thank you for shedding some light and posting some facts about the situation.

I'm not saying you have to sympathize with him, but you should wait to condemn him without having all the facts. Truck, 7 year old girl, where and how was she hit? Front on, sideswiped her, he may not have seen her as her she was being hit. What size was the truck? Big enough that hitting a small 7 year old body would be unnoticed? Being picked up at a combini doesn't seem like he had known and was fleeing the scene. Would make more sense for him to go somewhere not so public to hide. Seek justice? Mob justice is never true justice, it's vengeance.

So nice how JT posters always crucify having little to no information about the story. Was it a green light for the truck? Did the little girl cross on a red? Was there even a light? Was the little girl looking at her phone and not the street (yes, some 7 year olds have phones). Instead of instantly judging the driver as an "animal", how about just expressing g sympathy for all involved and wait for more details before deciding the driver's guilt.

I think a lot of people are missing a very important part of this story: how the relationship started in the first place. They met on Facebook and become involved for what, some 5 months. They couldn't have known each other that well, and it was very stupid for this girl to give out personal information such as a phone number or home address. Parents need to warn their children of the dangers of giving out such info so casually. Further, while I understand that this girl is 18, but were talking Japan, so really that means about 15-16 mentally, why weren't the parents more involved with their daughters on line activities. Seems like this could have been prevented with some common sense about using social media sites.

Making pot legal will not stop accidents like these from happening. Making a law which states that if you use a drug and drive while under the influence, your license will be revoked permanently would be much more effective. Either curbing the desire to do so or at least removing the idiots that do.

This accident wasn't caused by taking a drug, legal or not. This was caused by a person taking a drug, legal or not, and then driving while under the influence. If this guy had done this drug in his house, with no one else around, at the most he would have only caused harm to himself. Yes, I think recreational drugs should be legalized, but if you commit a crime, or cause harm to others, while on said drug, you should pay a severe penalty. It doesn't matter that this guy took a drug. The fact is he caused others harm because of his driving. If he had done the same thing without being on a drug, would that make him any less responsible. I think not.

I think a lot o people are missing the point. Companies should have a right to choose how they wish to run a company, as long as they are not harming people or the environment. If I owned a business, and it was a choice of allowing a few customers with tattoos and losing my base customers, or not allowing tattoos and keeping my bread an butter, the choice would be obvious. I have tattoos, and have been denied access to several places. I accept this. I tell me family and friends in the hopes that the word will spread, and people will stop supporting those businesses . It is up to society to cause change through actions businesses understand. Don't have a bully government pass rules simply because a small minority of people have hurt feelings of not being able to join something.
