That fact that Tokyo Disneyland is a "conglomerate" (actually, it's not owned by Disney) is irrelevant to the people who have lost their jobs.

Nitpick. Tokyo Disneyland is not a conglomerate. It is a wholly-owned entity of Oriental Land Company. OLC owns, operates, maitains and promotes both theme parks in tha area. They license the theme from Walt Disney Company.

Golgoth13, Disney was given opportunity to invest in TDL before the park opened. However, they originally thought the theme parks wouldn't do well in Japan. So, Oriental Land Company signed all the checks. After some years, Disney wanted a stake in the parks. However, OLC balked at selling.

Posted in: 8-year-old boy stabbed to death in Nagoya home See in context

I just want to get this straight and taking a guess.

Hitoshi Kachi - 8-year-old male victim (half Japanese-Filipino?) Yoshihiko - victim's father (Japanese?) Philippine relative (26) - victim's female(?) relative

So the "father's wife's cousin" is the 26-year-old Filipino relative. Was the father's wife not the mother of the boy? So the boy lived with his aunt and she allegedly killed him and attempted to take her own life?

Huh?

MottoMatto, I watched and enjoyed "The Social Network" last night. As a fan of "Pirates of Silicon Valley", I must say that this film is quite similar in terms of the drama behind headlines.

It was a fun film to watch. I saw the IMAX version in Saitama. There is so much going on that I'm thinking of watching it again.

They had to be at least ten years older than anything running anywhere in the Kanto region and it is one of the most heavily used lines. I guess the JR decided they couldn't continue to ignore trains that went deep into the wilds of DaSaitama.

Are you serious? I believe JR Yokohama Line and Nambu Line have been using older rolling stock (trains) than Keihin-Tohoku Line. Also, Keihin-Tohoku Line combined with Negishi Line runs through more of Kanagawa-ken than it does through southeastern Saitama-ken. Deep into the wilds? Hahaha.

“Inception,” directed by Christopher Nolan, cost a reported $1.6 billion to produce...

Got the decimal place off by one, I believe the correct figure is about US$160 million.

Moderator: It has now been corrected, thank you.

Posted in: Japan puts out welcome mat for embattled 'Sex and the City 2' See in context

As someone who has watched the series completely and the first film, I didn't like SATC2 very much. I didn't like the long slapstick segments in the film. They seemed so contrived and the ladies seemed out of character.

Also, the mostly Japanese audience hardly laughed at any of the "blue innuendo" offered by the girls especially Samantha. I found myself having to cover my mouth during some laughing outbursts because no one else even giggled.

Posted in: If "The Cove" is ever shown in cinemas in Japan, will you go to see it, or see it on DVD? If you've already seen it, what did you think of it? See in context

I've already seen it via download last year. I thought it was interesting. Yes, one-sided but the local government and citizens were offered time to give their side of the story. The crew didn't storm in demanding the locals change their ways. At least not for this film.

I'm thinking he blew the intended-for-family-expenses 26,000yen in an Akabane Philippine Pub, got wasted and stripped down (like the SMAP dude) and then ran home to wifey claiming he was robbed.

By the way, I went to the Lalaport Toyosu cinemas last weekend. I noticed that the Terminator: Salvation banner had a misspelling. According to IMDB and Wikipedia, it should be "Sam Worthington".
