@Elizabeth. she made a mistake, undoubtedly, and I think it's more precious to learn from these mistakes and identify what seems like a risky situation than to blindfold yourself out of fear of "victim blaming" and then just let whatever happens happens... You have to note the difference between saying they made a mistake and saying they deserved it. She did not deserve this. No one would. At the same time, she did miss red flags, and the rest of us can learn from this.

This is probably absolute hooey, but then again, it's always good to keep an open mind to the possibilities. Still, that being said, there is zero correlation as of now. This happens all the time around the world.

You'd have to be blind to what happened the last time the reporter got caught to think that's even slightly "stretching things".

And as for your first question, again, I said that wasn't my point- this is not about babysitting his life. If he wants to die that badly he can go jump in a river for all anyone cares. The government won't stop him. This is about federal-level issues.

Sorry, but you guys claiming this is a violation of rights/freedoms obviously don't understand the larger concept of what's at stake here. It's incredibly selfish for one man to want to undertake personal actions that risk throwing the entire country into disarray once more just for his so-called freedom rights.

This isn't just about babysitting his life, this is an issue of war and national security- isis would demand money again, the family would plead with the japanese government to save him, Japan ignores their pleas this time and then the Country's entire morale gets shat on for ignoring their own citizen in crisis, and the government is put to blame?? On top of all of that, Japan has to send a message to ISIS that it won't permit what happened to happen again, and letting him walk into his death once more is not a way to do it...

All of this just for the personal desires of ONE man??? How selfish.

Really? If it actually erupted to the point that it was spewing boulders while you were up there, you'd probably die whether you had a helmet or not!

Climbing while wearing a face mask will just make it easier for you to suffer from elevation sickness.

Seriously Japan Today, stop reposting this same crap every 5 days. Here is your article from 5 days ago, we don't need to see another: http://www.japantoday.com/category/politics/view/china-urges-japan-not-to-lose-its-conscience-over-wwii-guilt#comment_1940688

In that last article I commented: "We've heard this "story" enough Japan Today, China makes this same statement every single week. What here is news? Please stop printing China's "urges" as if it were something new." and you proved my point so badly by doing it again this week. Give it a rest, it's pathetic.

Why are you guys mad about the chef? The customers knew exactly what they were asking for and what they were getting themselves into. There's no need for the law to intervene here: The law of natural selection is doing it's own job perfectly as it is.

This is generational, nothing to do with Japan. If they think this is about conformity they're just trying to explain away internet addiction by oversimplifying the cause as cultural, rather than technological/biological.

@kiwiboy, even at at the chance he has a body, recovering the body of a dead person even isn't worth instigating a chase in the middle of traffic that is likely to kill several innocent people. If the driver puts the petal to the metal, just get the plate number and track him down later and SAVE LIVES.

@yubaru, you just gave every man here the worst possible piece of advice you could have given. It sounds like you are not very well informed on this topic. Please read this carefully http://en.rocketnews24.com/2013/05/14/guilty-and-never-proven-innocent-every-male-train-riders-nightmare-in-japan/

It has been proven that running away is literally the best and only hope you have if you are falsely accused, and no, it doesn't "show your guilt." It shows you don't want to get involved with the highly corrupt legal system of Japan. Just run.

Anyone who was offended by free U2 music makes me absolutely sick to my stomache- You'd literally have to have 0 problems in your life and are looking for something to get upset about if you consider this a move against smalltime bands. Music is NOT some quota that can be fulfilled by having x amount of songs. NOONE is going to say "oh well now that i have these 10 u2 songs I guess I don't have to purchase any more music now, im all set!" People will buy music that they're interested, and people who don't want to buy music will not buy music anyway. This has been proven time and time again.

I think that's enough japan today for today.
