What amazes and saddens me is the attitude of some.... "Don't take away my guns". Pretty petty, childish and selfish in my opinion. Offer prayers and thoughts, but no actions that have any substance. You might need it for hunting, and that is fine, no arguments there. But, do you need and AR-15? Hardly. Those that claim to want to protect their loved ones, and offer prayers and thoughts, really don't care that much at all. Losing your 'toy' is so much more important than others losing their lives.

Must be cause of the guns.

It’s not only about being killed, I’m a hunter, so how I can hunt without a gun?

Probably the same same way before the advent of guns, using skill.

Kabukilover

It’s thoughts and prayers time again. But the American gun cult, run by the arms industry and the NRA will not bend an inch on gun control.

bass4funk

Terrible, thoughts and prayers go out to the families. Very sad, but having said that, I have a feeling the left is going go nuts once again screaming that everyone has to give up their guns.

Enough said!!

One would think that the national government could save all these municipalities the trouble and make it the law of the land!

But they won't! They still have the likes of that numb nuts yesterday, believing you're selfish for not having kids. You would be considered even more selfish batting for the other side.It's great to see some progressive thinking at the local level, shame it can't trickle up hill to a national level.

Awesome engineering, tech and planning....Well done guys. Stuff like this gives me a great sense of pride in humanity and what we can achieve if we really put our minds together. Imagine if we did this for the betterment of the world and its inhabitants.

Democrats are the minority party yet are unwilling to concede anything. Like this example from the article:

On Monday, Democratic Senator Dick Durbin told reporters:"Eliminating the Flores agreement removes humanitarian standards on the treatment of the children ... we are not going to water that down."

Just as the Repub's did under Obama's watch. What goes around, comes around.

Probably the one and only time I will agree with you. But, you have to have a look at Trump's record with his treatment of blacks, his comments about people from SH countries ......and so on.

It's not about playing god.....it's about mitigating the effects of the quake. Like Laguna said, if you had only heeded the advice. People will become complacent and look at what happened up north.

Yeah, just figuratively. Both my daughters are Australian born, yet they may as well had been born on the moon for all the good it does you here. Feels like you have leprosy or something, just for being a different nationality.

Gaijinpapa

The system is ..... and you are right. It is the kids that are made to suffer. No parent is perfect, we all have our own faults, But to use them in a vindictive little game is pure and simple child abuse.

Having someone bigger, scarier and so forth, does nothing. It is obsessive behaviour. No amount of threatening will 'cure' it. The guy needs help, simple as that.

papigiulio

Restraining orders are not worth the paper they are written on. Personally, if someone is caught stalking, there are bigger issues at play. Some form of detention and assessment are needed. Copping a fine and being told not to do it again is not the answer.

Goodlucktoyou

Agree, it is taken to lightly in most countries. Part of the problem here is the obsessive culture that is bred through these idol groups, coupled with overwork, and a society that has no outlet to let off steam (apart from stabbing some randoms). Christ, look and some of the rubbish that you can buy through vending machines, these telephone clubs and so forth.

Japan's mental health system is a joke and needs rebuilding from the ground up......

Basically it’s life back to normal for most people in Osaka. I was there today and I was there yesterday and life is normal. Maybe the writer of the article has seen a lot of anxiety but I didn’t...

Maybe for some people, but the kids at this school would be feeling a lot of anxiety.. They just lost a classmate

It is regrettable that these cars are not made in Japan, providing jobs for Japanese.

Ever heard of robots? Japan is the World Leader in them, and they are used in auto-making, restautant, farming, medical operations and even are the reseption staff in some hotel here. You dont need the assembly workers like 30 years ago.

Either you're for jobs for Japanese people, or Japanese robots. Which one is it?

especially when they want to attract them, take their money, and then look down on them and complain

Exactly! Down here in Yatsushiro, we are seeing an increase of cruise ships, mainly from Asia. Has been great for the local economy (not sure why here, not much to see nor do), then the local YouMe Town decided they wanted to play the racist card and try to ban only the Chinese tourists from entering and shopping in the centre, because of their lack of 'cleanliness'. As always, it the old 'jichans'.

Is it racism? I did not think such “hate crines” exist in Canada. It is troubling. Rest in Peace to the elderly man.

As maybe said... Nothing has been mentioned about racism. You are quick to jump on the Nationalistic bandwagon, another, yet more passive form of racism/xenophobia.

Posted in: Japan carmakers association says it has tripled its U.S. workforce since 1990 See in context

@Zichi

Exactly. The jobs provided indirectly, probably outnumber the jobs, directly. Have a look at when Toyota, Holden and Ford closed down all their factories in Aus..... A lot of the smaller companies that made things like bolts for the assembly plants had to try find other customers, or fold.

Posted in: Japan carmakers association says it has tripled its U.S. workforce since 1990 See in context

@Yubaru

Beat me to it....

@GanbareJapan

With a declining birth rate, a greying population and a lack of workers now. How do you propose to staff these plants. There is nothing wrong with companies having factories in other countries, it benefits both economies, which hopefully in turn creates more opportunities for all of the citizens of those countries. (Not just the wealthy).
