He's a cop. He broke tha law. Next, he loses his job over this, right? If not, there is something seriously rotten.

My 1st apartment here in Sapporo was with "Mstsui Biru" who said "gaijin dame" in our initial meeting. Well, the apartment got rented in my ex-girlfriend's name with the full understanding of the company that I would live there. They said it was fine, as long as she provided 2 guarantors and I paid 50,000 a year to one of these "professional" guarantor companies. I wondered to myself who would actually end up paying if I'd defaulted and was certain that it could be challenged in court. They gouge you any way they can.

I don't feel bad for some of the landlords on here and any tales of woe. If you're not willing to deal with riffraff, don't get in the rental business.

Good for her! The juxtaposition of her work and her attitude only reinforce my opinion of Japanese music being 100% manufactured.

"Pilot" episode? As in a production run has not been ordered yet? I've never heard of a Japanese drama series having a "pilot" episode. Yet more disasterous translating on JT?

Drinking and driving is rampant here in Hokkaido. It is no small coincidence that Hokkaido has the highest number of traffic fatalities of any prefecture, and that with so few people is nothing to be proud of. Hicksville!

If Japan is flying in NK airspace, then they deserve to be shot down.

So presumably you were okay when Korean Airlines flight 007 was shot down by the Soviets for being in their airspace. They deserved it, right?

YUP!

By the way, where does it say that any Japanese military aircraft actually did enter NK airspace, rather than "near" it?

Read the article. Nobody said it did???

If Japan is flying in NK airspace, then they deserve to be shot down. Can anyone logically disagree with this? It is not so much a threat but rather a rare statement of reason by NK.

That's "semi-literate" kanada, not "semi-litterate". I care, too.

Well spotted. Apparently, my Jamaican rum does not share our concerns.

Don't you mean "off the shore", "translator"???

Are you a native English speaker???! And secondly what the hell does it matter anyway Everyone who speaks English understands it?

I sure am, and I get paid to correct this kind of garbage as well as undo the damage caused by semi-litterate "English" teachers. It matters, if you care about the language.

What else would we expect them to do aside from make money? Macdonald's is on the way down globally, but not in good 'ol behind the times Japan. It's still 1980 here. I'm surprised they don't still use the polystyrene clamshell boxes.

Posted in: Chiba man admits to assaulting over 100 young girls See in context

If he is indeed guilty, he won't get a sentence that would satisfy many readers on this site. Unfortunately, assaults on children do not carry the moral weight in Japan that most western readers would relate to. If he has something that qualifies here as extenuating circumstances (lost a job, drunk, "sexually frustrated by a lover (blame a woman)", was teased at school, lost his favourite Gundam doll", accidentally deleted his totally legal child-porn collection, etc.); then the judge will certainly take that into consideration. Pathetic state of legal affairs.

Like the iPhone, hate the fact that SOFTBANK has it wrapped up in an extortionist exclusive deal. I'd have one but for the fact that unlike any other phone in Japan, emails to the iPhone count as data transfer (SO THEY CAN CHARGE YOU FOR IT) I still have my 4 year old VODAFONE on a mail-hodai plan and pay less than ¥4500 a month. My friend's minimum iPhone bill is ¥9500 a month with minimal talk time and only moderate email use. Gimme an R! I! P! O! F! F! Whatch got?

Posted in: Companies offer special benefits to bicycle commuters See in context

I commute year-round in Sapporo by bike. In the winter I switch the tires to winter MTB spikes and even the slickest sheets of ice can't stop me. The only thing that makes me take the subway with the dirty coughing masses is the rain. I raced bicycles back in Canada and rain on a bicycle just sucks on a level that can't be put into words.

I don't worry about parking where "Das ist verbotten!" because they legally have to put a warning ticket on your bike 24-48 hours before it is confiscated. Nobody else in Sapporo worries about it, so, when in Rome!

Posted in: NPO provides unusual solution to Japan’s feral cat problem See in context

Oh, amazing plan. RELEASE the FERAL cats back into the environment where they can continue killing the NATIVE songbirds? The government ought to make it illegal to release these cats, and I'd bet you a thousand yen that it is, indeed, as illegal as dumping a snapping turtle in a park pond.

Cats are a serious threat to fledglings, birds roosting at night and birds on a nest. Research shows that de-clawing cats and bell collars do not prevent them from killing birds and other small animals.

Posted in: Why do Asian pop stars have a hard time succeeding in the U.S. market? See in context

J-pop is made with canned music and simpleton lyrics to enhance the enjoyability of mutilating it at karaoke boxes. When ws the last time the MUSIC stood out in a j-pop song you heard? Never, right? I can think of few things worse than J-pop, well, ok, C-pop, then K-pop, then T-pop. Bad, bad - all bad! I knew it was a farce when I saw Guitar wolf on TV and they started with "よろしくおねがいします". I died a little that day.

The West will rect with predictable military force. The West, afterall created this monster when they pushed for "democracy" in Pakistan. Musharraf was the only man wo could control that country to any extent. What we sould get behind is another military dictator strongman in Pakistan. In someplaces, democracy has no place. But then again, I guess the U.S. needs a new enemy...
