A simple fact that cannot be fudged.

Number of hospitalisations, it doesn't matter how many test are done or what you think.

If the number of people in hospital remains low then the number of infected is probably low, especially in the aged population of Japan.

You're ignoring a simple fact that cannot be fudged: Many people in Japan never go to the hospital. They get sick, tough it at home, and hopefully recover.

Those folks are never counted in the daily totals.

 have been travelling for the last 5 days, so have not really kept up with the numbers game much, but numbers seem to be on a seesaw.

”Traveling” is synonymous with “spreading.”

Even with the supposed new variants, the number of new cases is going down. As people start going about their business again like before the number won't suddenly shoot up, as you saw last year. It appears to be seasonal and has generally followed the same patterns across countries, lockdowns or not.

The media are just digging around for ways to drag it out at this point

@Aly Rustom

Now expect the testing here to drop to ABISMAL numbers for the next 2 months just so that they can dupe the leaders trying to be responsible and do the right thing into coming. That's my worry.

World leaders aren't going to be duped by infection rates that are made to look low. They'll look at the number of people being tested. If it isn't in the tens of thousands every day, they'll know the numbers are being manipulated.

Someone I know opened up a small establishmment last month knowing they'd receive this subsidy.Gonna get 1.5 mil for the month of "S. of E."

Your acquaintance is in for a rude awakening, then. The subsidies are being paid based on prior months earnings, and the 60,000 yen is the upper limit for the highest earners.
