Posted in: Too many people missing out on health benefits of golf, some experts say See in context

Golf, without a golf cart is a wonderful way to lightly exercise. Silly comments about elitist - racist - sexist are not worth the time commenting about - just ask Gary Player or some of the great South Korean women players. Providing a large green space, often in the city, is a very positive thing for everyone. FoxSoraWinters comments were like a liberal rant having nothing to do with golf.

The program called Duolingo (using AI) is being used by millions (?) now.

It's free and quite well done.

@Serrano: - or you might just have to pay 540 yen to the new 'hospital'. Introductory letters seem really weird to me, but that's just the Japanese style (for the moment).

Posted in: Trump threatens U.S. allies on trade before leaving G7 summit See in context

All the Trump haters seem to ignore the strength of the US economy, the unemployment rate (especially for blacks) and the potential 'peace' process meeting with North Korea. The usual left tactic is to focus on the personality and ignore the results. Most people are familiar with the saying 'It's the economy stupid.' - and that's doing pretty well, at least for the moment. Name calling is just so shallow. If you think Trump is doing a lousy job, then talk about the results of what he has done that you find displeasing - not his particular personality.

Japan - Aso is truly in another world - his own. Unfortunately, he represents all of Japan - and personally I hope that Japan grows in all ways - it would do better without him.

@Noakes: yet another dynastic LDP politician - imo Japan would be better off when women / girls can focus on their studies / careers vs having to tolerate such disrespectful behavior by men - Noda is not helping.

@YuriOtani - This is a discussion forum. BurningBush was not speaking of American Republican platform problems. Your emotional response to his comments were just that - emotional - as in 'not based on facts'. Trump supporting Americans, like me, have a logic that prefers capitalism over socialism - not because it is perfect (it is not) but because it works better than socialism. Human rights are a very important thing, but not easily achieved. All people should be treated with compassion.

Comments like GOP bought by NRA are emotional responses to the disaster; they are not based on data. I'm not an NRA member but my understanding is that they are not one of the top contributors of $ to the various elected officials. They are powerful, but it's due to their numbers, not their contributions. If someone has data that shows this to be wrong, I'd be happy to see it.

This is Seriously bad news for the company and even the country. I hope they perform corrective action that may help to undo the damage that has been done to their reputation. Personally, I will probably not make a decision to buy a Nissan next year because of this.

@Laguna: Calling SF 'tolerant' is not accurate at all. Once upon a time, when I used to visit UCB free speech was the norm worth fighting for; now it is not. At least for now, SF is definitely not 'tolerant'.

Weasel - as much as I detest NK, their missiles traveled through international airspace; not simply 'over' Japan. Not to mention the low probability that anyone could shoot them down at that height.

Posted in: What is femininity? Western and Japanese women weigh in See in context

I regret to say that 'thepersoniamnow' was spot on. Western women (I'm thinking American) just never grew up in an environment where true feminism existed and hence, never picked it up. They certainly have other attributes but being feminine is not one of them.

Posted in: Japan wakes up to N Korean missile warnings See in context

It seems that a military response from the US will be required. An endless amount of talk and sanctions simply have not worked. At some point one has to 'say' No! If there was any other way to stop him, that would be preferred, but I think he has shown everyone that he will continue provocative actions until more 'serious' actions are taken against him. When you know you are confronted by evil, you must be rid of it. Most of us do not want violence, but sometimes the circumstances give us no choice. I know that military action is very serious and will have serious consequences - but I don't wish to give a free pass to NK to continue their current ways.

Posted in: It's time for liberals to fight back around the world See in context

The statement - Trump is a standing affront to the ideals and practices of democratic statehood, which have had the adherence, more or less, of liberals, conservatives and social democrats in the post-war West.  - is simply wrong.

Liberals are not seeking anything close to democracy - they are seeking power only - their way or no way.

Freedom is simply not a key concept to them currently - it used to be, 50 years ago, when I was a liberal in college.
