Posted in: Greenland court extends anti-whaling activist's time in custody as Japan seeks his extradition See in context

You know, the consumption of whale meat was in decline until people started bitching about it. Greenland is an example of that. This entitled culture of shaming other countries into thinking and behaving like yours, its like colonization all over again. My god is the only god, my culture is the right culture, my way is the only way to be—these people are no different from the priests who kidnapped kids from their parents and placed them in boarding schools to be stripped of their religion, culture, and identity. And if you refuse, bury them in a pit with the rest of the rejects? This industry could sputter out on its own, but its people like this man who want to force his ideals on other people that keep it alive. Ive eaten whale. Ive eaten sea lion and seals and bear. Id eat dolphin too, if i was in the right place at the right time. All in japan. Because, try as you might, japan is different

Why should Japan wait until they're attacked?! IS has already shown its affinity for killing and have blatantly told the world that they will slaughter all Japanese they find! If I were Abe, I'd be capitalizing on these beheadings too! I'll be damned if I'm going to wait for more of my people to be killed in such an inhumane manner, no, I would send my army to tear down IS!

well i would have to say i want his ass locked up, show china that these kind of actions will not be tolerated in japanese waters! 6 months may sound like nothing in america, but in japan i think 6 months is pretty fair, especially since they dont make it comfortable like in america.

we have apologized over and over throughout the decades, yet it never seems to be enough! i do not believe it is right for japan to live on its knees for its crimes almost 70 years ago, especially since we have made sincere efforts to repent only to have everyone say it is not good enough! i say let the chinese and koreans bitch and moan all they want, at least when war comes we will know who we want to fight by our side!

Judging from the lack of lava and seeing as there were no warning signs, it seems to be that the eruption was caused by a buildup of gas. That YouTube video of the eruption though, I would have been scared shitless, the guy that took that video was either very brave or very stupid.

damn tourists, its reprehensible that they would defile such a famous and sacred site such as mount fuji, its like they were raised by animals! they could easily stuff the trash in their pockets or in a pocket in their bag, but instead they just throw it on the ground, i think its pretty insulting that they would do that.

shes pursuing something she is interested in, that's what everyone should do. as for her "palace" she lives on imperial grounds, not in the palace, the Emperor and Empress live in the palace, the rest of the family lives in houses somewhere else, close together, or else that's what it said on the IHA website

okinawa isn't a part of japan really, it has loads of japanese speaking people, but as far as i know its not a part of japan in the same way that hokkaido or the senkaku islets are. i could be wrong though.

Posted in: U.N. issues fresh call to Japan over WWII 'comfort women' See in context

The UN has no right to pressure Japan into apologizing for these actions, it's just going to force Japan farther and farther away just like in the league of nations. As for these comfort women, we've apologized again and again, loads of cash has been sent their way, and yet they cry for more! I doubt Japan will never be forgiven by those people, but I think that if they continue in their pursuits they will push Japan farther away, and when they need us we won't be there. Everyone knows Japan is a proud country, everyone knows we have superior ideals in terms of honor, yet they are all too arrogant to realize that if they continue to attack us over world war II, they might push us to fight in world war III. The fact that the world is pretty much cornering them is a clear give away that we might be at our breaking point, our allies are turning against us, what are we to do except separate ourselves from them? NATO does not care about us, Korea and china hate us, America is... Well America, they are the nosy neighbor of the world that won't do anything unless it's directly affected. I think if it comes down to war, we might fight alone.

these war criminals housed in yasakune cannot really be hated, they were victims of the militarist sentiment that plagued japan at the time. if you hate general tojo then you might as well hate every kamikaze and imperial soldier that fought in wwii because they did what they believed to be best for their people. all these people were willing to die for their country, regardless of what part they played in the war, i think it is a crime in itself to dishonor their memory and deprive them from receiving a proper afterlife.

Posted in: U.S. Army retires general for not properly investigating sex assault in Japan See in context

Is this what the united states military, the most powerful military in the world, has as generals?! How are they expected to command troops abroad with this kind of reputation amongst their own people, much less the rest of the world? What makes this all worse is that he pretty much got away with a warning and a slightly smaller retirement check! Generals are arrogant enough as it is, they think they can do whatever they want and get away with it, this article is just proving it. I think this general should be dishonorably discharged in order to make an example of him, because if harsh action is sometimes required to bring about drastic change, and after what I've read they seriously need to change.

i personally think that abe is the best PM japan has had in a long time. he is doing that which is hard, but can anyone say that it isn't necessary in the long run? Abe is doing for japan what no other PM or politician has had the rocks to do. why shouldnt japan have a standing army that can both attack and defend? i was under the impression that all sovereign nations had the right to have a standing army that could both conquer as well as defend its country. with china pressing its "irrefutable" claim to most of the south china sea how can the japanese people berate abe for trying to take precautionary measures to defend japan and its people.

i think the issue of whether she keeps her title as princess depends on the imperial house council, it depends on whether they approve of their marriage or not. too bad the emperor has no say on who stays within the imperial clan, especially when its his own daughter.

Posted in: Thousands protest greater Japanese military role See in context

I personally support japans steps to remiltarize, it's the right of sovereign nations to both defend itself from foreign threats and wage war if it chooses, why should Japan's government be bound to a constitution that was forced upon them. It is illogical for any nation to sit idly by when they see a growing threat by any nation, especially a nation that is making a point to use its own growing military to intimidate neighboring nations. It is also important to realize that although other nations may pledge to defend Japan from foreign invasion the fact remains that words are different from actions. No matter how many alliances they form there will never be an absolute guarantee that they will defend Japan with sufficient military force chiefly because it is not their home that is being invaded, they have little emotional or cultural attachments to this island in the Atlantic. Japan's military may have a horrible history, especially with china, but that is all the more reason why this Asian pissing contest should end. Japan does not want bloodshed, but if provoked they will fight with the same ferocity as they did a hundred years ago, but this time they are not the invaders, but the invaded, making them all the more deadly.

You keep trying to be arrogant in space relations with Russians but they laugh at your weak and desperate attempts. Remember it. A friend of mine told me a story once, he's a former navy seal that spied on Russian communications during the cold war, he told me about Russia's attempts to get men into space. He described how countless Russian cosmonauts screamed for help as they burned to death when there craft failed, unfortunately the USSR only announced succesful missions to the public. It really gets on my nerves when someone tries to portray perfection by conveniently leaving out the more gruesome aspects sidekick.
