What a cute story. Everyone on here is so jaded, don't let them get you down. It's good to notice and appreciate the small things.

I like how in Japan, the "pranksters" are always able to explain why they do things like this, even though the two aren't related in any way. In the U.S. it takes years of therapy and usually gets blamed on parenting issues. If you hate your job, wouldn't it be more connected & mentally satisfying to pull a "prank" on the people you work with?

"Yuuda had made a written statement to police promising that he would no longer become violent."

I didn't realize that after committing a crime, all you needed to do was promise you wouldn't do it again. I'm off to steal a car. Don't worry, it's just this one time. I promise I'll never do it again after this.

Monkeying around with 17-year olds is not legal, but it ain´t pedophilia.

We must see something different when we look at 17 year olds, because to me, they look like children. They're not as young as other children, but being attracted to them is kind of gross. I mean, what's the cut-off age for pedophilia? Menstruation?

The only movie I've ever seen anyone walk out on was District 9. 12 old people and couples left within the first 30 minutes. I think they just didn't know what they were in for.

Anyone know where I can see more pics of this event? Possible nationalistic narcissism aside, I just like looking at pictures of pretty ladies in kimono.

What a dick. This guy is a dick, straight up. His motivations don't really matter. If he were white & Christian, he'd still be a dick. If you've got your own problems, take yourself out. Don't take 13 other people with lives and families with you. So selfish.

nandakandamanda, that "best at wearing earrings" or whatever award is arguably more pointless. Someone should start keeping a list of all these ridiculous awards that Japanese companies give out. Now THAT would be worth reading, for comedic value alone.

They offer international shipping now. The shipping costs are ridiculous (as expected) but I wonder if that's driving sales?

This was written by that white guy that goes everywhere in a poorly-made Dragon Ball costume. You know the guy. He shows up in random photos all the time. I'm always like, "Oh. It's that guy. If he's going to wear that thing EVERYWHERE why not get a better quality one?"

Consider the source.

Well.. GOD. How far did the ball make it? As a woman, I have no problem with her dressing like that IF she could actually throw a pitch and not make us look stupid. Judging by the angle of her arm in that picture, I'm guessing she can't.

Posted in: Tokyo is the best food city hands down. That's where chefs are going for innovations. There's also a history of food traditions. They are so far ahead of us. See in context

"Tokyo is the hottest city for food lovers..." I think they should have inserted the word "rich" in front of "food lovers." There may be a ton of innovative restaurants in Tokyo, but I'll be damned if I could ever afford to eat in any of them.

Wow. I guess I'm pretty stupid because all this time I thought, "There must be something special about their eggs-- like they're so organic, cage-free, and fresh that refrigeration isn't necessary. When really, they're just as dangerous. To add to the danger, when I was in Japan I ate them raw much more often than in the US. I feel like an idiot!

Posted in: U.S. pays $40,000 to relatives of Afghan civilians killed in raid See in context

I understand what they're trying to do... but honestly, paying $40,000 not only makes them look guilty, but like jerks for the paltry sum being paid out for 15 lives. It's better not to bring a weregild into it. Just give money to the village or free construction. Apologize for civilian casualties if you fill you must-- but it sounds like the villagers themselves confirmed the presence of militia groups.

Posted in: What's your recommendation for helping Crown Princess Masako recover fully from whatever is ailing her? See in context

She needs to not be afraid to be herself. She's a strong, intelligent, opinionated woman, and she's crushing herself trying to live up to everyone else's expectations-- which usually amount to "Stand here. Look Pretty. Do what you're told. Don't have an opinion." There has got to be a balance between performing her imperial duties and acting as a representative for the throne while also maintaining a personal identity and a modicum of independence. Finding that balance starts with taking control of your life and realizing that you have the power to make decisions for yourself. Short of incarceration and torture (which I actually wouldn't put past the IHA) no one can make you do anything you don't want to do.

That and plenty of alcohol should set her straight.
