Posted in: Everything you need to know about quarantining in Japan See in context

Nice summary. One of the annoying thing is the inability to call back when you miss the "my SOS" video call. I have missed all so far (8th day) and I usually just press the "I'm Here!" of the OEL app when I find the missed call. I hope that keeps me off the rules breakers' list. With kids in the house who demand constant attention; playing, food, ofuro, etc, it is very easy to miss the call.

If I were Fumihito san (keeping aside the Akishino no miya decoration) I would just settle this paltry 4 million yen from my savings and let the children marry and be happy. I think that is the normal parental instinct. Alternatively, the girl can use part of the lumpsum to settle the damn debt. The stress and negative publicity these children have been subjected to over the 2 years is not worth it really.

This definitely has nothing to do with her research; she just joined a young lab recently that does basic research. A 67 yo man is a spent cartridge (metaphorically) but some have obsession with having young female company, even if just for drinking companionship. It is possible that he could have been of help during her settling down into the new apartment when she moved in but he probably wanted and expected a refund in kind which she might have consistently turned down. This is just my speculation. I feel really sad because she was my friend and colleague during our PhD studies. This warped character, if found proofed guilty should not waste public tax for long.

Reports are that a 67 yo ojiichan has been arrested and has admitted to the crime! What a waste!

@Asiaman7: The lab: https://ikedat8.wixsite.com/website-1/members.

I would not think it has anything to do with research.

It is extremely painful. She was a very humble and kind person. We studied for our PhD together at the same period, same place. I can only say may her soul RIP. She had a whole useful life ahead but some deranged person just nipped it when she was just starting to bud (starting her medical research career). Am so sorry for the parents for this terrible loss.

When arriving at Narita airport from abroad, does anybody know how much the test costs?

Posted in: Japan's coronavirus entry ban disrupting lives of foreign residents See in context

I am one such affected father and spouse to Japanese nationals and my wife is struggling to care for two very genki 4 and 2 y/os as well as a health care worker handling covid-19 patients. I am so grateful to her but I feel a so helpless video call papa. The stringent restrictions here https://www.mofa.go.jp/ca/fna/page4e_001053.html make it impossible to get into Japan because:

"foreigners (including those from the countries and regions where the entry bans do not apply) who will arrive in Japan with a flight via any of those 111 countries or regions which are subject to denial of permission to entry, with a purpose of refueling or transit, will also be denied to enter Japan in principle. This will apply regardless of whether they have entered those countries or regions or not. Foreigners from the countries and regions, where visa restrictions (suspension of visa validity or suspension of visa exemption measures) do not apply, will also be subject to entry bans if transiting through the 111 countries or regions."

Some human beings are just sick in terms of sexual stuff regardless of their social and occupation status; from big time politicians, teachers, etc. across the world. Anybody following global news can understand what I mean. Its important to monitor and keep them off our children.

I was really shocked by the headline when it was first reported; my Japanese wife and 2 children are in Kawasaki and am thousands of miles away. Hopefully the government will put in place more stringent measures to prevent such erratic people from causing deaths and injuries to innocents. It is extremely painful.

So sorry to all those undergoing similar situation. I have a family too with a Japanese partner (with children) and hope things will remain as cute as they have been and are. Anyway, if bad stuff happens I won't hang around (physically and emotionally) and exhaust myself like a moth which circles about a lamp post till the poor thing looses its exhausted wings and drops dead.
