I wasn't sure how much this country has been suffering from the sickness of mental health-- especially after 9/11, because I’ve seen this in my home country for ten years. But, I will tell you. America really needs to cope with "mental illness" which leads some people to political violence. This incident is a wake-up call. Sure, you have the right to speak for/against the national politics, but you have absolutely no rights to go insane so far as to kill innocent people's lives!
My deep condolences to the families and friends of lost ones.

Honestly, couldn't this great filmmaker think of something upbuilding for the people?
Perhaps, you might want to ask the same question to Oliver Stone and Steven Spielberg, since they also made WWII films.

Funny. Those events are rarely labeled as "massacre" and yet at the same time you ask for a definition of "masscre".
Well, if it sounds funny that's fine. But it's not the matter of labeling and categorizing the scale of war event. I responded to an unknown poster over her/his sarcastic comments that were deleted a few days ago.

If some place is going to be a battle field and the civilians there didn't evacuate from that place to be killed, they are just stupid. (~_~)
Do you think you can make exactly the same statement for the US air-raids on the mainland Japan and the battle of Okinawa???

On the basis of the factual information contained in these five questions, we are completely and totally convinced that there was no massacre in Nanking.
OK. What is your definition of "massacre," if I don't mind asking? If someone says there were no 250,000 victims (soldiers + civilians) at the time, does it lead to the conclusion that the Japanese imperial army did kill NONE of them (it means zero!)????
The fact that some folks bring up the statistics of Japan’s brutal killings in the attempts to argue that the massacre is a joke(!) clearly explains that they have very narrow understandings in the objectives of Zhang’s film. It is NOT about historical fact-finding. It focuses on the struggles of local civilians who were neglected and abandoned by the world at the time of the event. Get a clue.

Funny to look how some (or most) folks discuss what Japan did in the past against China or not, while the film provides quite a different perspective on the event--focusing on civilian struggles that were very little accounted for.

I find this picture of Japanese nationalists disturbing, given Japans recent past record of military aggression and barbarity against its neighbours
OK. But the photo provides the context in a different way than you suggest. Their rally departs from Japan's past military aggression--Japan and China are bickering over a different issue. It has nothing to do with what Japan did upon Asian countries in the wartime. Besides, national flags are conventional ones-- NOT the same as the national symbol in the Imperial era. These protesters are NOT the same as hard-core right wingers. Speaking of a national flag as iconography.
TheRat - You really think the Tea-Partiers in the USA are crazy? They are a growing political force, so if these Japanese protesters have that kind of following, we are in trouble.
Nah, I personally don't think they are similar to the Tea-Partygoers. Most of these protestors do not necessarily engage in a rally for political motives.

Many Republicans dismiss scientific evidence of human-caused warming, citing arguments by skeptics that the large majority of scientists are wrong or that the consequences of warming are overstated.
That's because it's coast side--rather than the Midwest and the Great Plains-- climate change directly affects on the soil. You can easily dismiss their arguments saying that that's nothing to do with the impact on Americans life-- depending on gas guzzlers and fossil fuels. Texas and Louisiana are likely to face the challenges, since the BP's oil leak messed up their environment and local businesses this past summer.

China was infuriated when the Nobel committee awarded the prize to the 54-year-old literary critic, describing it as an attack on its political and legal system. Authorities have placed Liu’s supporters, including his wife, Liu Xia, under house arrest to prevent anyone from picking up his prize.
Call for the rhetoric invoking anti-intellectualism and paranoid by the Central Communist Party(CCP). No comments from Hu Jintao... This pretty much explains that the CCP has more power than the Chinese president.

Chris and Amy Savoie were college sweethearts. He rekindled his relationship with her while still married and living in Japan. He moved to Tennessee (where Amy lived) in Dec. 2008, and served Noriko divorce papers in June 2009 two days after she arrived in the states. A person has to be a resident of Tennessee 6 months before they can file for divorce.
Holy gross! This could be as disgusting as polygamy.

He used Noriko's financial dependency on him to force her to give up her entire culture and country so he could be with AMY SAVOIE. No matter what people think, this has never been about the kids for Savoie. It was all his relationship with Amy (who had her own divorce and custody issues). What Savoie did to Noriko speaks of ECONOMIC COERCION! Savoie wanted his cake and eat it too. Unfortunately for him, it blew up in his face. That's it in a nutshell!
Yeah. Fair statement. I don't know the timeline in which Chris had connections with AMY, but it sounds clear to me that his marriage life was on the rocks while they were still in Japan.

If this is part of their law, then it must be revised!
What needs to be discussed for the revision, per se is the land property law, which was promulgated by the USCAR during the occupation. It has been modified several times by the J-government after 1972. To me, J-government's decision on the property law didn't seem to bring anything but disservice to local landowners and residents until today.

I dont think China has done 'TOO FAR' as you guys stated over the trawler incedent because for japan that definately was a good thing....let them know what their grand fathers has done to China in that 50 years before 1945.
No. The national coast guards have a duty to protect the nation from any suspicious acts that may pose a potential threat to its interests and/or security. The fact of the matter is that they found an 'unidentified' vessel within Japan's sea territory. Note that the vessel was owned by private Chinese activists. The vessel has no direct connection with Chinese government. They are NOT allowed to dock at any sea ports in Japan nor intervene into Japan's sea territory, unless they have permission for business/commercial, diplomatic, or immigration purposes. Your comparison of the incident with the Japan's past history is quite misleading.

This is a part of multiple voices against Japan's strategic rival.
Japan is rapidly going down the plughole in many respects, and most Japanese are so wrapped up in their own little worlds that they dont realise what is going on in the outside world. The days of right-wing Japanese Fascism are gone, but some people dont seem to realise that. It dies with the brainwashed kamikaze pilots, and with Emperor Hirohito.
OK. What's the difference between the right-wingers and these demonstrators in the photo? If you're claiming that these people are jerk just because they are joining in the protests, you're completely clueless.

Thousands of Japanese nationalists demonstrated against China and Tokyo’s handling of a territorial dispute.
I find this caption more problematic than the image itself. Unlike the conventional images of kooky right-wingers gathering on a war shrine or radical Chinese protestors engaging in violent protests, these people look pretty much moderate and decent protesters to me. They are far cry from some crazy and irrational folks joining in the Tea Party Group.
