I really hope Suga was just saying he'd continue Abe's plans while actually intending to go a better way just to get through...

Otherwise, the forecast is more political and economic weakness.

I seriously doubt SK-Japan relations will improve that much. It's not just leaders but a significant percentage of the general public.

@AgentX

You obviously don't understand how wars work. Invading countries always need collaborators and Korea had plenty who were all too eager to sell their fellow countrymen as slaves, just like the Nazis had French collaborators.

Posted in: Abe plan for land-attack counterpunch could mark major military shift for Japan See in context

What Japan really needs is to develop more sophisticated *defence*** **technologies like lasers and satellites which can properly track incoming missiles and destroy them in flight.

The first strike option is a foolish one and would probably start a war if anything.

There is absolutely no need to go anywhere near the constitution for this.

Btw. Some other commentators seem to think that Japan's past aggressions are the reason for China's.

This is more about taming a rival than just history. The proof lies in the fact that China is also bullying neighbours that have had relatively good relations with it.

It's a very bad idea letting people off for being "schizophrenic" or something else. It'll only encourage other murderers to claim mental instability.

He didn't accidentally stab 6 people.

Death penalty it should be. I don't want to pay for his upkeep.

It has also been learned that Sawada was placed on probation after being convicted of having unlawful sexual intercourse with an elementary school girl he met on an online dating site.

He obviously can't stop himself so castration would be a good solution here. If not, then execution.

Posted in: China expects Japan's next PM to be conciliatory amid U.S. tensions See in context

I don't think so. China's just showed its hand. It's in a relatively vulnerable position right now after provoking most of its neighbours.

If Japan plays its cards wisely, it'll use that vulnerability.

Besides, China's still harassing us around the Senkaku islands.

Better kick'em while they're down.

Although it would be nice to see the IOC roast in their suits out in front of the stadium in the middle of August, it's the idiots who put Tokyo's candidacy forward who should be to blame, knowing full well what the weather's like there.

Yet another perfect example of what happens when politics get in the way of common sense.

Posted in: Japan's policy on strike capability could raise tensions in East Asia See in context

This "preemptive strike" option is a very bad idea for the simple reason that it would give whoever was struck a perfect excuse to "retaliate".

Japan seriously needs to invest in developing advanced defenses like lasers which would cost a lot to manufacture but would cheaper to run.

There would also be no need to attack first.

Posted in: Tokyo highlights LGBTQ rights before Olympics with Pride House See in context

Japan lags behind many other developed nations when it comes to LGBTQ (and whatever letter is waiting to be added in the future) rights.

If by "lags" they mean "haven't gone mad with the issue by allowing former men, who clearly have an advantage, to compete against women" then yes, Japan indeed lags behind.

Like many other movements which started with good intentions, it's gone out of hand...

This is why countries like Japan shouldn't lecture others on democracy.

The voting system is modelled on the UK's, which is outdated and needs to change to better reflect the population.

Well, I'm glad Kōno showed is true colours before any general election. Obviously, the odds are against Suga's rivals but you don't just give up at the first hurdle and worse, make it easier for the competition. That shows lack of commitment.
