Posted in: Even Christian evangelicals are warming to gay marriage See in context

The article should say pseudo-Christian ministers are pro-gay, guess reading the Bible isn't a requirement. One can be loving and tolerant of something and not approve of it guess they missed class that day.

He who trusts his neighbor to defend him, has a bull eye on his forehead. Japan should look to itself first then others for defense.

Good then, become good little targets for isis save them some money from buying targets, maybe if we're lucky they'll turn the area into a giant depopulated area where we can build shopping malls, don't give a rats ass about rag heads.

About damn time, few countries see Japan as the boogeyman. We need to do the same as we did with Germany. Have them look after their own defense.

Posted in: Constitutional questions grow over Abe's military plans See in context

The constitution is based on the one set up by the US at the end of WW2, it's time for them to quit using it as a crutch, and come up with one that fits the modern era.

He is right, learn from it but don't use the past as an excuse for present behavior. Let's be honest China isn't mad at Japan for what they did in WW2, they're mad at them for being buddies with the US. For the most part the other Asian countries have gotten past what Japan did in WW2, just we did. Wonder when China will apologize to S. Korea, Tibet, and Vietnam for their aggression towards those countries.

Posted in: Thousands surround Diet to protest U.S. base relocation plan See in context

It's really simple with the encroachment by both Russia and China, the Japanese are worried about their territorial integrity, the budding friendship between the US and Vietnam who is also concerned with China. They're hoping that a US presence leads to some restraint on both China and Russia.

Take the beam from your eye China before you try to take the mote from Japans eye. Guess your senility has caused your memory loss on Tibet and the eating of your own in a cultural war.

Posted in: Cherry blossoms also bring out the yakuza See in context

Wonderful, great, stupendous. The Japanese need that, like the US needs a write-up on the Mafia showing how they kiss babies and celebrate Christmas.

Posted in: How do you feel when you speak fluent or reasonably good Japanese to a Japanese person and they insist on answering you in English? See in context

The same way if it was German, French, they be trying to learn or practice their English, you know there is no law saying you can't switch between them. Trying to a mountain out of a an atom.

Hate to say it, Affleck is an idiot, good thing for him he doesn't live in Iran or any other place that has sharia law, he would been killed over some of the movies he's done,

Posted in: Former diplomat fears for future of Japan's democracy See in context

First of all the US isn't a Democracy but Republic/democracy with the emphasis on Republic and neither is Japan. As to the possibility of hearing war drums out of Tokyo, I will grant it is a possibility considering what's going on in Hong Kong as well as S Korea and Russia.

Good thing he didn't commit that crime against humanity in feudal japan, could have cost him his head. All the young lady had to do was ask him to stop and remove her picture from his phone.

Posted in: Japan, U.S. express concern at China-Vietnam maritime dispute See in context

Nope after the US withdrew from Vietnam, the Vietnamese kicked China's ass because the Chinese thought Ho Chi Minh was against the US and was pro-Russian and Chinese, instead of seeing him as a nationalist, the Vietnamese have never liked China, they're on better terms with US than they are with the Chinese or Russians

Posted in: Aides give Abe a headache on history, U.S. alliance See in context

So Abe did a joe bidenism by putting his foot in his mouth, by going to the shine it was in bad political taste, but considering how many of their own people have died by Chinese government hands, China has no room to talk. And lest we forget how many people died during the Korean War by Chinese hands.

Posted in: Foreign men sound off on difficulties of having a Japanese wife See in context

Big difference between born in Japan and of Japanese ancestry, and even where she comes from in Japan can make difference, a country girl is more likely to more traditional than someone who comes from a city like Tokyo or Osaka. As far as custodial kidnapping the same could said for all foreign marriages. My only advice would be not just learn the language but the culture, and date for awhile so that you feel each out, so neither one of you will get a rude surprise.

Posted in: School textbooks to be revised to reflect gov't view on history See in context

Well as far as Japan building up it's military they do have the right to defend themselves considering the military buildup of both N Korea and China, as far their textbooks being historically accurate, any textbook that has been done are rarely 100% accurate.

Posted in: In U.S., is it rude to ask guests to remove shoes? See in context

News flash it is very uncommon to take off your shoes in the US, most homes here either had a mud room or a welcome mat to get the dirt off, obviously you can't do that with an apartment, and for some reason door mats have fallen into disuse here.
