LMFAO! Now, THAT is funny. A pilot running around naked trying to steal underwear!! Here is a guy who could probably JUSt wear the uniform and get lots of girls. But he choses to take off the uniform and run around naked. What a knucklehead.

Nope! No way! No how! So sad. I wish it would be different but first you need to clean out Nagatacho of all politicians and diplomats and than start all over again from scratch. Anyone's relative who was a politician before should not be allowed be allowed to have a public office.

But spend the consumption tax extremely wisely instead of putting of hundreds of hotels across the country that nobody visited and then selling them for five percent of the costs that it took to build and operate them. This guy Noda though is not going to do anything different. He was Finance Minister under Kan. Noda didn't do anything then and and he sure the hell wont now.

broken, poverty and riot-stricken nation

Far from Broken. Japan is closer down that road than you can admit. Poverty? We are getting there with less than talented politicians who keep coming in and out the door to supposedly lead the country. sic Riot-stricken? ONCE!

I wish Japan had leaders as good as the ones in the U.K. Plus, anyone who thinks that Noda will stay for long has been drinking way too much sake. Ozawa does not like him so he will be gone soon just like Kan. This country will do so much better for itself when these things happen:

Ozawa let's go of his vice-grip on Japanese politics. Diet Members stop trying to shout down whoever is speaking at the podium. (childish) Stop cow walking when they have to vote for something that their party is against but does not have enough votes to stop it. (childish) Diet Members wake up during sessions. (incompetent) Diet Members work together and forget party politics. ( That will never happen ) They raise the consumption tax considerably. And the list can go on and on and on and on.

Oginome The BBC is right. Plus British PM's do not revolve in and out as fast as Japan PM's. Decision can't be made with this government.

Develop thicker skin Oginome. Japan is a ship going down and I hate to admit it. I want this country to do so much better, but that can't happen with the shoddy government figures who rule this country. Nothing gets fixed because no one has the power to fix anything except one criminal who decides to get rid of one PM after the other. Ozawa didn't like Kan, nor Hatoyama or anyone else. Politicians here put self before country in the name of the country. Simple problems that can be fixed, go unfixed because it wouldn't be good for their parties. The U.S. has the same problem.

Asagoe!! You are horrifically wrong.

UFC/Pride etc is a game of tactics and strategy. So does American football. Shows how much you DON'T know! Football is mostly about strategy. Hours and hours and hours of studying your team and the other team.

It is not all blood and guts. You train your body to take the hits, and in general training, you rarely get your brain smacked against the rear of your skull.

Neither is football. Hours of conditioning and studying. In American football you do get huge hits. Those guys in the NFL and College football are modern day gladiators. They have to be smart as well just like fighters. Asagoe, no disrespect intended but don't disrespect something you have never tried to understand. One man't peach is another man's poison. It takes years and years to understand football, that is just how complicated it is. It is the most technical sport in the world and also depending on your position, the most brutal. It is a gladiator sport that takes brains. So does UFC and other sports like it. Peace

Anyway, i am happy that Silva won. He is a good fighter.

`YuriOtani It is very unfair for you to say you didn't anything wrong, but you take advantage of the work that your forefathers did that helped build the country into what it is today. Hey, you didn't build Japan into the country that it is today, but you reap the benefits, don't you? When the Japanese team scores a goal or like bam_bom said wins the world cup, you didn't do it, but you take pride in it. You didn't score the goals!!!! Right? You can take pride in what your country does, even if it is something in the past but not responsibility for what it did wrong in the past? That is convenient and unfair. Your right YOU DIDN' DO ANYTHING. No offense meant.

YuriOtani, being from the land of the aggressor gives you zero rights to call them cry babies, even if your family IS originally from Okinawa. Okinawa is considered part of Japan. Is and Was. Sadly, it gives you no wiggle room to say that.

YuriOtani Sorry to say again but that attitude really burns my gears. That is exactly what the problem is. Man, I hate that. It is just too convenient, selfish and irresponsible.

Posted in: Japan marks 66th anniversary of World War II surrender See in context

bam_boo That was harsh, but VERY true. YuriOtani, your attitude is wrong, wrong, wrong. I wouldn't call them CRY BABIES! That is extremely insensitive. Yes, they should try to get off the subject and move on, but I don't think enough Japanese have encouraged this through acts of contrition nor remorse.

It irritates me when I hear such things. As, I have said before. I don't think Westerners should be pointing the finger at Japanese people. But your attitude is part of the problem. It is true, YOU didn't do anything. And that is true in many aspects. Your history books whitewash history. And YOU didn't do anything. Your leaders infuriate the victims of Japanese war crimes. And YOU didn't do anything. Now, it is simply convenient for you to feel that way and makes people more angry. It is easy for one whose forefathers have trampled on others and walk down the street and say, "Hey, that wasn't me". It is easy and unfairly convenient.

I think I have often supported Japanese when it comes to foreigners, especially westerners, pointing the finger at Japanese. But this,

I have done nothing wrong, nobody in my family has done nothing wrong. I do not need to do anything.

That is exactly where the problem lies and one of the big reasons the issue is still around today. If people HAD done more than has already been done, like Germany, than there would be a lot less complaining. So, yes, YOU HAVE NOT DONE ANYTHING.

Hey, my grandfather was in the KKK. I wasn't. I didn't do anything wrong and harbor no ill will towards any race of people, except for people who do nothing and make excuses for the past. But I do feel a sense of responsibility to act and make sure that people know what my forefathers did. It is MY responsibility to make sure those things never occur again. Just because I didn't do it myself doesn't mean SQUAT! Because my forefathers did it, I have a responsibility to make sure that our children learn as much as they can. Throw away their foolish pride and not let them conveniently ignore the past by saying, Hey, I didn't do it! That kind of logic is what allows people to repeat the past and encourages anger from the victim's.

There seem to be three types of people: One: Ignores the past because they didn't do it. Two: Looks at the past and makes excuses. Three: Accepts what the past is and encourages the past not to repeat itself.

sfjp330 WOW! You keep harping on the same sad point.

More than 50 members of Japan’s conservative opposition party, the LDP, including leader Tanigaki and former PM Abe, visited Yasukuni Shrine Monday. Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah............

How many people are there in the upper house and the lower house? FIFTY? NOPE! The House of Representatives holds 480 The House of COuncillors holds 242 The country as a whole has a population of 127,960,000

Yes, in this country there is a sense of denial. There is the white washing of history books, etc. Blah, blah, blah, but don't forget this. So are the history books of our very own western countries. Come on, now. So many European countries occupied South America, Africa and Asia. What? They went in their peacefully and the natives threw flowers at their feet and feet and said "Mi casa es su casa"? LOL Not even close. We went in gun a blazzin. Raped, killed, pillaged and did what ever we wanted and you know it. THIS IS MINE! That is what we said. Nanking happened all over parts of Asia, Africa, and South America, and it did not go reported by European magazines and Newspapers. But when it was an Asian group of people who followed in our actions and threatened our prosperity in one region we demonized it. The Japanese did what everyone else did. And the victims are all owed apologies. From India to to Uganda. The only reason that the Japanese fall under the hammer is that theirs was photographed and demonized by a group of people who lost parts of Asia that they wanted to keep under their feet.

We have a Vietnam war Memorial in the States. I feel for those fallen soldiers. They did some good things and some very bad things. Victims of war mentality themselves. I believe there were 58,000 Americans killed and more than two million Vietnamese killed as well. We have a memorial to the fallen soldiers but what we really lack is a memorial to those Vietnamese who were killed. Not to slight anyone who was in the war, but men do bad things in bad times. That is just the way it is. I wish though that we had a memorial for those dead Vietnamese though. It seems to me that if you go to a country and 2,000,000 of it's population die because of your involvement that they also should have a memorial and we should learn about why they died from the victim's side as well.

Anyway, the only country on this planet that has ever taken a serious look at its past and tried to atone for its actions is Germany. I wholeheartedly salute and respect them for taking an honest and sincere approach in trying to make their youth understand that the past is simply that, and that just because you are German does not mean that your own forefathers didn't commit heinous acts and that you should learn from it. History without passion. Just honesty.

Americans students should go to Hiroshima and Nagasaki and or Vietnam and see what REALLY happened. Japanese should go to South Korea and China and see what REALLY happened. And so on.......

PATHETIC!!! Like I said before, this guy will get out. He is eligible for parole in only ten years. No, he will not get out in ten, but here is the kicker. He will get out sooner than most people hope. And when he does not the victim's family nor the public will know anything about it. In the States the victim's family gets to know when the killer gets out, but not here. This is the last we will see or hear of Ichihashi. I feel very sorry for his victim. She will not get paroled. Is not eligible for it. But he will, if he is good. I would say fifteen to twenty years later. My prayers go the victim's family. They must be pissed off and they have a right to be. Way to go court system. You screwed the victim's family and will let the monster go someday without letting the public know about it. Whose interests did you serve? The criminals. This monster should never be let out but will be.

Skeptical Hippo!! Not excuse! Fact!!!! Here is the deal folks, The US showed great composer. Even when getting off the bus in the US they held their heads high. Gave praise to the Japanese team and a few of them said that they were happy that Japan won because of what the "country" is going through. Had the roles all been reversed, I doubt such a thing would have happened. There would still be lots of crying on the pitch. Interviews with boo hooing playes who would make no sense at all when they spoke and than the tears of sadness in interviews back here in Japan. A huge display of "we did our best" and lots of people here feeling sorry for them. I really wish this mindset would change. I am truly sorry to offend, but YIKES! I am proud of both teams, but would not have been if the girls in blue would have lost. Peace all.

Skeptical Hippo, I disagree with you wholeheartedly.

Excellent game! The US team held their composure and showed good sportsmanship after the game. No exaggerated display of crying, which I'm sure the Japanese women would have done. Both teams were a pleasure to watch.

It is not below the belt. Nor is it lame at all. It is fact!!!

Every time the Japanese team loses they cry. They fold up on the ground with their eyes welled up and tears rolling down their faces. That is fact. Not cool at all. Something that I really wish would change because it is sad to see someone fight so brave and hard and than betray all that hard work by crying.

Oh, don't misunderstand. When I said that they didn't play their best, what I meant was they were dominated in the first half by the US team, of course to no avail to the US side. But it had to be one of the best soccer matches I have seen in a very long time, if ever. Both sides fought so hard. Great game. I hope that this will fuel soccer popularity in the US because it is a great game to play. Not as great as American football in my OWN opinion, but still a great game. NO dis intended at all. Different strokes for different folks. Congrats to both teams.

Congratulations to the Japan. They fought hard. They didn't play the greatest and the U.S. made some mistakes that let them stay in the game. I am proud of the Japanese side for fighting so hard and winning. But the American side made me VERY PROUD to be an American. They didn't cry like babies because they lost. They held their heads high. They taught the Japanese side a lesson in sportsmanship!! If the Japanese had lost they would have been crying on the ground and boo-hooing. Such an awful sight. That is when I turn the TV off and I am tired off seeing athletes here do that when they lose. Hold your head up high because you did the best you could and it didn't work out. You can be proud of losing if you grave it your all. Congratulations to the Japanese team for their tenacity and their fighting spirit in winning. And congrats to the American team for fighting as hard as they did, losing, and holding their heads high. They are both winners although only one side feels it ACTUALLY won.

Tahoochi. You are right and wrong. He will have to serve 25 years as a life sentence, but he can be paroled after that. But he will have "ONE SENTENCE", all of crimes will be under that one sentence, of 25 years at least. After that he is eligible for parole, depending upon good behavior and if he has shown enough repentance.

Posted in: Japanese prosecutors seek life in Briton's death See in context

Wait a minute, folks! "Life" sentence in Japan is exactly 25 years. No more, no less. Unless you are convicted of multiple crimes, that is the only way that one can do more than 25 years. He will be out in 25 years if he gets a "Life" sentence. In Japan, in murder cases like these, it is either LIfe (25 years in prison) or the death penalty. You can be sentenced to more than that for multiple crimes. Also, death penalty are not given to people who kill only one person. Only if that person kills more than one person. So, he will be back on the streets in 25 years.

richiesama You can take what I say with the same grain of salt if you want. Or just research it for yourself. Go out and research it. Check history books or even wikipedia if you want to. Most information is easy to get access to. Think for yourself what is logical and what is not. I don't think it is intelligent when people just take others at what they say without questioning them. Too often we fly off and just repeat what others have said without any effort on our own to validate what is correct or incorrect and too often enough we are just blinded by our feelings to face what is and is not reality. The things I have said can easily be validated. I am just disappointed that Mr. Barry would go and speak half-truths. It defeats his purpose and only excites people who do not actually think for themselves.

Even as much as I am opposed to the dolphin killings that go on there annually, I am also opposed to misinformation. I respect this man and his work but not when he bends the truth like he has done here.

“In Taiji, there are only 13 boats, with two men each, and they have been doing the dolphin hunt since 1933. That is hardly cultural or traditional.

This is very untrue on all accounts. First of all this community has a a very long history of whaling and killing dolphins. He needs to check his history books much better before sending out information that is TOTALLY INCORRECT and self-serving to his purpose.

A while ago, before ‘The Cove’ came out, I stood in Ginza one day and interviewed 100 people on the sidewalk. Not one of them knew about this dolphin slaughter or the mercury contamination in dolphin meat. How can it be part of the culture if Japanese people don’t even know about it?

Who did he ask? High schools students? Most people are very aware of what goes on down there. As for the "contamination". No most people don't know that. But still he starts out misrepresenting the facts.

As for the "Ninja" crap? How ludicrous. That is just demonizing the country. He should have said, "RIght-wingers".

Furthermore, 60 people can not go down and help a community although small but as large as Taiji. Many more people are needed and financial assistance is a must to help these people chose a different lifestyle。

Honestly, I respect the guy very much, but After these comments my respect for him has waned a bit. I deeply dislike half-truths because the people who are against you who know that what you are saying is wrong, become more adamant about being against you. When unknowing people who want the dolphin killings to stop spread out these comments in just pisses others who know better which only defeats the purpose. Stop misinformation. Let's deal with hardcore realistic facts. No smoke screens.

You can not stop love. He was not in love with her. He was in love with someone else. How can you blame him? They had been separated for a long time and he wanted a divorce for a long time. There is nothing wrong with that. Although his timing might not have been the best, but it is just reality. He had not been in love for a long time. She knew it for a long time. Enough. He is not the animal that you all want to make him. He just fell out of love. And she knew it.
