Posted in: Japan to expand COVID quasi-emergency to 29 of 47 prefectures See in context

What’s the point if this now? It’s already spread all over this small island of Japan.

Plus, how do you stop infections without stopping society? What does that even mean Yuriko? Elaborate if you can……

Posted in: Japan struggling to hold Coming-of-Age Day events due to COVID surge See in context

My city done it with 3 seats social distance (Chiba). Then after the ceremony, everyone was gathering outside in groups taking selfies, parents joining in too and everyone laughing and joking. As my friend said “what’s the point of social distancing inside when not one person is doing it outside?”

84 year old man cycling in the snow??? Sorry but that’s just guileless and ludicrous. Hope he feels silly now

Posted in: Japan's November jobless rate rises to 2.8% as people seek better jobs See in context

If they were accepting foreigners for a ministerial position. I’d take that. That’s a great job that. Great pay, never have to make decisions, can sleep in the Diet meetings, lie about data and make mistakes and never get fired. Little backhanders here and there and a little tax evasion……maybe everyone is quitting their jobs to land a government job!

Posted in: Uber Eats delivery worker arrested over sexual assault of customer See in context

Even If it was consensual, it’s going to be hard to prove that without evidence, like if they had exchanged mails etc. I hope they can get to the bottom of this, but it would seem his word against hers.

Seems strange she let him in for a quickie whilst he was working though.

Posted in: Tokyo reports 46 new coronavirus cases; nationwide tally 387 See in context

Unless it’s over a few hundred, then I wouldn’t bother reporting this anymore. Most of the population are vaccinated and masked up. There will always be a couple of cases but that’s to be expected. Surely we can’t keep reporting these low numbers forever?

I have been highly critical of the government for a long time but I’m not sure, apart from getting boosters out there, what more they can do?

Posted in: 66-year-old man arrested over hit-and-run while driving without license See in context

No sympathy for the driver here at all. What a selfish, inconsiderate person to leave someone suffering in pain at the side of the road because he wasn’t man enough to stop and admit guilt. Hope the victim can make a full recovery and get some serious compensation from the coward driver.

Posted in: 90-year-old driver arrested for attempted murder after shoplifting suspect clings to his car See in context

What’s a 90 year old man 1. driving at that age, and 2. trying to stop a shoplifter? Tell the supermarket guards and let them deal with it. They have insurance. If an accident happens outside the supermarket, the victim (legally) can sue (which is absurd in its own right).

Its not attempted murder. The shoplifter is as much to blame as the old man.

Posted in: Tokyo reports 11 new coronavirus cases; nationwide tally 151 See in context

Japanese media are saying two detected cases of the new variant has been found in Gunma and also Okinawa. Two cases out of how many millions? Surely it’s time for the government to stop using COViD as an excuse to stop people from living their lives. Yes, be cautious…..but this is just ridiculous now.

Very brave decision - oh wait, didn’t America make the decision first and he is just hiding behind them? Would he do that if Biden and crew were going to attend?

This was super close to where I live. You don’t just drop a baby from the balcony……so tragic. Hope the baby rests in peace and the mother gets a proper sentencing.

Posted in: Japanese gov't overstated data on construction orders for 8 years See in context

I make a mistake for 8 days and I’d be out the door of my job. However, Japanese politicians can make mistakes for 8 years and get away with an apology……bunch of incompetent imbeciles.

Posted in: Tokyo lawyers to collect info on police stopping foreigners for questioning See in context

A lawyer friend told me that when police stop you, you are allowed to ask a few things before answering anything or showing ID.

Their names and badge numbers

Why they are stopping you

Apparently, one office can not stop you alone. There needs to be two officers. That being said, it’s sometimes easier to just get it over and done with.

What a shocker…..says no one ever.

Loads of politicians take extra jobs, extra subsidies, backhanders. It’s the way it is for a lot of these old boys.

Wonder which old boy mate Fumio will appoint to the role next.

They haven’t banned people coming back into the country but if the situation got worse, they could just suddenly ban people coming back in. It’s a mess - and he says this with no mask on! Does he ever wear a mask??

What a scumbag!!! What is it with people who abuse and beat up kids? I am sure they wouldn’t dare pick on someone their own size. I hope this guy meets someone bigger than him and gives him a little taste of his own “hard discipline”.

Posted in: Tokyo reports 7 coronavirus cases; nationwide tally 79 See in context

So out of 14,000,000 people, only a meagre 7 got the virus? That’s incredible - defying logic.

So, can I stop wearing my mask now as surely it’s safe now….well according to the Japanese government figures that is?

Posted in: Man arrested after stabbing 2 people at Ueno Station in Tokyo See in context

Whether people like it or not. Japan is very slowly becoming a little more dangerous. It’s still incredibly safe compared to other countries, but we shouldn’t compare ourselves to them. We should look at how the last ten years has seen an increase in hit and runs, random beating on the streets, attacks on trains and at stations and stabbings. Just got to be more vigilant these days. Less time looking at your screen and more time looking around you!

“We cannot avoid a sixth wave between November and December”

After the elections are done perhaps?? Hate sounding cynical but with statements like these, it’s hard not to.

I’m hoping that it’s the vaccines that are taking effect and people still being vigilant that has helped bring the number down. Let’s wait and see.

The Japanese judicial system is laughable. Why didn’t the judge throw the book at her and set a precedent from here on in. This is murder, plain and simple. Poor little baby girl - RIP little one.

Posted in: Suga tells U.N. Olympics were symbol of global unity See in context

I don’t know that many people around me who got hopes and dreams from these Olympic Games. I know myself and my young daughter got saddled with years and years of debt though. Suga and his people won’t care though as they won’t have to face the hardships to pay it back.

Not exactly true……although kids might not het heavy symptoms that resemble what adults get, they can still suffer from the effects of Covid. Just yesterday a boy died in Osaka due to Covid-19. Fatalities may be low in kids, but it’s not a given they will just recover.
