Oh dear. I love this country. I'm often humbled by the lessons I learn from living here. I've often found myself being proven wrong by the contradictions I experience. Yet, I sit here thinking this can't be right.

The contagiousness of delta variant has been likened to chicken pox. I remember, my parents sticking me in a room with the kids from next door in order to catch chicken pox when I was still young. Maybe that's the idea with sticking all these kids in stadiums. Maybe these kid's immune systems will quickly learn to build antibodies etc. etc. etc ... that's great.

One concern though ... 40% of the population is fully vaccinated. What about the 60% who are still vulnerable? Just because we have made good progress towards building immunity recently doesn't mean it's a good idea to stress test the population?

But then, what do I know. I'm just an amateur virus pundit. I'm fully vaccinated, so I'm finding myself watching from a different perspective than I was a few weeks ago.

I really hope this a positive lesson Japan is about to teach me, yet I fear it might just be the most ridiculous disaster waiting to happen.

Posted in: How has the pandemic changed your eating patterns both at home and when/if you eat out? See in context

I had started a longevity diet about four months before the pandemic. During that time, I learned how to boost the effectiveness of my immune system / developing and diversifying my gut biome. Then the pandemic started and essentially, my longevity diet went into overdrive - sauerkraut, raw broccoli, mushrooms and tons of olive oil everyday.

Posted in: Suga thanks people for helping to hold safe Olympics during pandemic See in context

Don't mention it Mr. Suga ... I mean DON'T MENTION IT!!!! Really, the less you say the better. I've just had my second covid jab and I'm trying to move on from feeling anger that you gambled with everyone's health. So, for goodness sake, can you just avoid reminding us that you couldn't care less about our health and safety.

Posted in: Bach says anti-virus rules working ahead of Tokyo Olympics See in context

What rules are working? Is it the rules from Gremlins? Don't expose them to sunlight, don't let them get wet and never ever feed them after midnight. Covid-19 doesn't seem to really care too much about rules Mr. Bach. I'm sure we'll just have an Olympics that will be remembered as the Covid-19 Olympics, Japan and the I.O.C's reputation will be tainted in the short term. There will be a lot of words spoken, but everyone is too busy talking and nobody seems to be listening.

Posted in: WHO to discuss Olympics COVID risks with Japan, IOC See in context

Gotta say I'm disappointed in the WHO isn't actually run by Dr. WHO. At least Dr. WHO could travel back in time and tell Abe to cancel the Olympics rather than just kick the can down the road. Still, like the Japanese government and the IOC, the WHO only seems concerned in keeping up the pretence of caring.

The Olympics now represent something I find disgusting, so its a "no" from me.

Posted in: Over 30% in Japan see rise in exposure to secondhand smoke See in context

As an ex-smoker, I say tax the hell out of tobacco. Spend the money on nurses to administer the vaccine. As I walk around the streets, I sometimes walk near folks having a sneaky illegal smoke. The smell of cigarettes is still rather pleasant to me, but I know if I'm inhaling the smoke through my mask, I'm just as likely inhaling coronavirus ... and then I think, "gosh, back when I used to smoke, at least I always smoked in the smoking areas / room. By doing otherwise is basically saying, "I don't care about my own health and I certainly couldn't care less about yours ... what are you going to do?" TAX TAX TAX.

Please give AstraZeneca to Taiwan, at least they'll manage to put it in their people's arms. Sell crazy somewhere else, we're fully stocked here!
