Body language. Touching or covering the mouth or throat, for example.

Posted in: Death by overwork on rise among Japan's vulnerable workers See in context

sighclops, allow me to explain. I was referring to full-time employees. If you are hakken or itaku, you must pay for national health insurance, residence tax, pension, etc by yourself along with transportation. However, tedori (take home) and disposable income are 2 different things. If kurusupisu's friend is a full time employee, by law there is no way the company can automatically deduct 60,000 yen from her paycheck. If she is indeed a temp staff, perhaps she means she only has 120,000 yen in spending money after paying for taxes and transportation.

Her gross pay is 18k yen a month- take home is 12k

kurusipisu, that is impossible. For a salary of 180,000 the amount reduced for pension, health insurance, etc is less than 30,000. http://e-kyu.com/muryou/tedori.html

A problem with negative rates is that it discourage people from depositing money in banks

We're talking about firms, not individuals.

samwatters, that's the funniest post I've ever read on JT. As for myself, I refuse to hand over my bank book and ATM card. However, my wife is my accountant so she knows exactly how much I make and how much I have.

Posted in: Nadal beats Nishikori to set up semifinal clash with Djokovic at Indian Wells See in context

What's sad to me, though, is that in Nishikori match you almost never hear these guys praising him anymore

According to Washington Post, Nadal said Nishikori was "hitting all the balls very well, very aggressive, and serving great." Well, with a 89% first serve rate, Nadal deserved to win.

Posted in: Tokyo to test taxi service with starting fares of Y460 See in context

Great idea. 1.16 kilometers at 80 meters per minute (walking speed used by real estate companies) is a 15 minute walk. On a rainy day with a small kid, that will turn into 20 minutes. Much better to pay 460 yen for a 3 minute taxi ride.

Posted in: Reds' new management bench Japan's World Cup star Goromaru See in context

This article fails to mention that a big part of Goromaru's benching is his lack of English speaking ability. Rugby requires a lot more on-field communication than, say, baseball.

ATM's only take about 500,000 yen

They accept up to 1,000,000 yen in one go. Trust me, I've done it before.

Posted in: Nikkei soars more than 7% on weaker yen See in context

Japan breaking the rules of the TPP by manipulating the market again

Your post makes no sense. The Nikkei average went down 2000 yen over the past week. It was bound to go back up. When stock prices fall sharply, there is always a correction as some investors tend to overreact. Last Friday I told all of my Japanese coworkers to invest now because stocks will rebound next week. It's a good time to make a quick buck.

Posted in: Becky loses sponsors, regular TV appearances over affair scandal See in context

I'm not a huge fan of Becky but I do hope she makes it back. I think the backlash was not from the initial news, but the "follow-up scoop" which revealed that Becky and the married singer had exchanged LINE messages that "maybe it was good this came out because now we can be open about our relationship (LOL)." I am concerned about the legality of obtaining said messages, but the damage has been done.
