Not really, unless your in a biker bar in the US pretty much all bars are a safe bet when you enter them.
So, kind of like bars in Japan?

If you go into the wrong type of bar, the Americans will attack without provocation. In fact, they'll provoke you then attack whether you react or just try to leave.
You could say this about any place in the world: substitute "the Japanese" for your local populace. Still sounds kind of foolish and ignorant when you do so though.

Doesn't really count as a scene, but maybe 'Fitzcarraldo' for lugging a bloody great steam ship through the Amazon jungle then dropping it into rapids.

I think goddog's point is that stabbings and throat slashings seem to be the violent crime method of choice in Japan, along with strangling, and since this crime happened in Little Tokyo it's not a stretch to believe it was committed by a Japanese or someone of Japanese descent. Of course there's just as much chance that it was committed by someone else, of any color, race or ethnicity
In other words it was a completely meaningless statement.

Posted in: What do you think of the quality of Japanese TV programs this time of year? Seen anything you like? See in context
I don't mind the talento shows in small doses and it's no more moronic than most of the crap you get on British telly. Some shows like 'Food Prejudice' are pretty good. On the whole though TV is mostly rubbish wherever you are - that's why god invented DVD box sets; anything worth watching you can buy or download.

Nice to see him get a mention - his album 'Garden on the Palm' is a classic and he always produces interesting stuff.
