"No Matter what race these thugs are one thing is sure!- When you lay down with Dogs,You wake up with Fleas!" Even if they consented to sex, so what? Someone woke up dead! Why do so many people find this so hard to understand? It's not a case of sexual morals, it's murder.

@ netninja are you for real? This isn't a rape case, it's murder. The victim was strangled and therefore is unable to "cry foul". Just because the guys have abs that you would like, doesn't mean the girls were "asking for it".

Posted in: Police questioning 2 American men in Irish woman's death See in context

It seems strange that comments are focussed on the inability of the victim to defend herself. She missed her train home, and like many of us do from time to time, decided to stay out until the early morning train. None of us can point the finger of blame to the victims of this horrible crime. To suggest that a 21 year old woman went willingly to the hotel room is naive, the suspects were twice the victims size, and judging by the official police reports, were molested in the taxi already. Most likely they were in fear for their lives and thought the nightmare would end if they complied. The nationality, gender, race or religion of the victims and suspects are irrelevant.

Posted in: The definitive Japanese bar code of conduct See in context

It might be an idea to include "Don't ask foreign guests about the size of their manhood as an icebreaker". From my own experience, it's all very good advice above, but perhaps only practiced in Ginza. Put a gaijin in the same bar as a few salarymen on a friday night and he/she doesn't stand a chance of having a quiet drink. Even worse for a foreign woman on their own.

Posted in: IRA group condemns queen's planned visit to Ireland See in context

And of course "Alf Garnett" a batty fictional fascist is right? This group used all its support at an historically important time, and all they could muster up was 200 people. Cooperation between the Republic and the UK will sort this out very quickly, no need for the Royal Navy, it turned a passive population rebellious during the rising. Watch less bad comedy and read more history.

@ ThonTaddeo If those private possessions are radioactive, the Government should protect the public from contamination. It's crazy that they've been able to enter the zone for the past month.

No doubt it will ruffle a few feathers in the royal household, but I reckon the Empress herself didn't care, all things considered.

Tone down some events, yes. Like many of the other comments, the show must go on, but if we can raise funds, have a silent prayer/reflection, conserve resources etc, we should.

you can't put wind farms on the coast - what will happen to the sea birds?

There are plenty of wind farms already in coastal areas already.

Posted in: U.S. sending robots to Japan to help with nuclear plant See in context

The Soviets had similar problems with military robots in Chernobyl (bomb disposal type), after a few minutes their circuitry failed due to radiation exposure. This has nothing to do with Japanese electronics being inferior, robots used in these conditions must be specifically made for the high radiation environment.

How about moving residents inland a few kms, and putting wind farms along the coast?

Posted in: Irish lawmakers offer initial OK for brutal budget See in context

Irish exports and manufacturing are doing fine. Bailing out the banks will cripple the country, let Anglo-Irish Bank sink, the average person in Ireland has no loans or savings there, only the fat cats. Having a limit on welfare payments might be an idea though, there are generations of families in Ireland living on the dole, even back when there were plenty of jobs.

Posted in: Global warming could double food prices See in context

I think they're ignoring the elephant in the room with regards to future food production. Once oil supplies are exhausted, industrialized food production and distribution will grind to a halt. The current system is so oil reliant, from pesticides and fertilizers, to farm machinery and water pumps. And that's just growing the food, distribution and refrigeration needs massive amounts too.

Anglo Irish Bank isn't your average savings and loan bank, it serves the wealthy global minority, yet this is being set-up in such a way that the normal Irish taxpayer has to pay for the greed of a few cowboys. Rise up, you men of green, and take back your nation.

Hokkaido Cops do an excellent job. Last year my bike was stolen and the cops spent 30 minutes devoted to checking my visa and gaijin card, where I worked etc. After all, I could easily have been an illegal, great job. My bike never turned up though, but I'm sure they're still on the case.
