My husband and I have a country home a couple miles away from Hinase. We've been here working on the house this week and I can tell you it was unsettling having the helicopters buzzing around. Our neighbors are a bit spooked. Think it will take some time to restore the easy, peaceful feeling here in the inaka. What truly horrific crimes. Be safe all.

My dad did 20 years in the Marine Corps. Lots of Marines tend to drink too much. This is what I observed. I'm not saying they all drink to excess, but lots of them do. I think if servicemen and women want to drink they should drink on base and that all off base drinking should be banned.

Really, I just bought 6 of them and had to pay 1500 yen a piece! Darn. People, do get smoke detectors, install them, and check batteries twice a year. No excuses!

My daughter entered college at age 13, graduated at age 17. Early entrance was a blessing. (For her and for my husband and me!) Bored kids tend to cause trouble. Today she is 21, happy, and has been earning her own living for 3+ years!
