Posted in: Can men and women really be close platonic friends? See in context
"If we look at it in terms of age, men clearly steadily feel bleaker about inter-gender friendships as they get older" Not necessarily. It could be that younger generations are more open-minded about friendships with the opposite sex.

Warning them not to litter, that's fine. Warning them that "they might get themselves attacked", is obviously a threat and should be called one. If I were one of these kids I certainly wouldn't respect authority if that's the way it treats me.

Oh, yasukuni. If it were a woman's world, women would HAVE the money. Not have to leech it off men. :P

Can't have a rape story without a healthy dose of victim blaming!

Yes, I think it's important to be able to control your weight, but she's right about people's attitudes - people reserve a special kind of venom for fat people. The comments here prove it. You can't say she's being unscientific and emotional while calling her a cow or gross in the same breath.

Cases of anything could be more severe in other parts of the world. Nonetheless they should not be tolerated. It seems like people always care more about the rights of nearly everyone over those of women.

I wonder why you people who think cutting bits off yourself is stupid, aren't furious at circumcision, which happens every day?

See through the initial EW! reaction and think about it. How can this be amoral/criminal? No one was hurt. In fact, if Sugiyama really is asexual, they probably feel a lot better without the extra parts.

She is only 13. She should not be tried as an adult and the 44-year old is responsible for his actions.
The lack of common sense on this forum is astounding.

Posted in: Women's lower status a risk for Asia's future, report says See in context
South Korea's is 51%!? Unbelievable. When you read surveys of elementary school children on their dreams for the future, their answers are still highly gendered. Boys want to be sports stars and doctors and salarymen, girls want to be kindergarten teachers. Not surprising considering the (lack of) variety in role models. I don't see many people around me pushing for change, either. They just sit back and accept it (or complain about it and then tell me there's nothing they can do anyway - shouganai). I still have hope, though.

Some people are born to be parents, some aren't. The smug posts that everyone ought to have kids, or that women are being "too emotional" in reaction to an issue that affects their lives enormously, just make me wilt a little inside.

If this had been a male killer, the article would not mention how revealing his clothing was or his physical attractiveness being "at odds with his defense". This writing is unprofessional and sexist.

I like these posters too - hardly a Japanese thing to promote good manners, we had a similar campaign in Australia in the past few years. And all of the advice they've given is exactly what's always annoyed me about people on the subway.
@Elbuda Mexicano Hahaha, just try that, the wind will blow all the vomit back into your face and any unlucky passengers nearby.

Inability to debate. Especially the older generation, many of whom will never listen to your opinions, especially if you're young and female, and try to order you to believe things and do things a certain way. I'm so happy not to be staying anymore with an arrogant man-of-the-house, I'm living in my own territory from now on.
